Mars Hydro Grow Journal TS3000: Chef's New 4x4

yeahhhh, I tried to hold out for a better reveal, I’m just too excited

Honestly I tend to leave my plants alone 95% of the time. Typically I just check on em once or twice per day, sometimes less if I know I recently watered. Should be a great addition and add a heightened level of interest to the journal... as well as making it easier to catch up.

All of a sudden I’ve got projects in every direction! I’ve got the run you all are tuning in for, but I’ve also got that BCP girl from my last grow that went unresolved in flower currently. She’s on week 4ish and she’s already packing on gobs of frost. Then in the small veg closet I’m doing a Grandpa Glue reversal for S1s that will be flipping into 12/12 tomorrow. I’ll also be making Grandpa x It’s It Punch, Grandpa x BCP, and Grandpa x Sour Bubba. Tending 3 gardens is a lot for a hobby!

As for the garden you all are here to see, today is day 8 and my 4 initial seedlings are coming up on 3 nodes with the LA Cheese and Chemdog still working on first sets of true leaves. In a weeks time they’ll all be well into full veg and receiving 4g/gal. Still not a lot of action though as I haven’t started any training or anything.. I’m not sure how I want to play this yet either. I was thinking I’d try to keep things as low as possible cause I’ve run into lights too close problems before, and I bet this Mars panel would burn up plants real quick.

We’ll see though... over this next weekend I’ll zip tie my panel to the roof bars of the tent and take some measurements from the top of their final pots to see how much room I’ve really got to work with. I’ll flip at plant=(Height-12in)/2... I should be able to grow them to around 32” before the flip....Man, that’s HUGE compared to what I’ve done previously:cheesygrinsmiley:
Starting topleft going clockwise:
LA Cheese
Xanadu
Garlic Sherbert
Chemdog
Grandpa Punch
Killer A5 Haze

Holy moly you're going to be busy with those GG crosses!

If you're not planning on leaving it there for the entire grow, a tape measure seems like an easier way to go ;).
maybe I’ll leave it where it is for now and just fill wall to wall.. that way they’re getting more light through veg. Then when it’s time to flip I’ll put the panel up as high as it can go. I really don’t care for adjusting my lights, I prefer to grow plants to fill the size of the tent.

Have you used the dimming function?
I have! Right now the panel is on ~75% power and the babies have perked right up and are preying. It’s a really nice addition to the panel and for me is the preferred method for adjusting light intensity.(opposed to raising and lowering the panel)

So, since things are rolling slowly in the big garden, I’m gonna show some of the other things I’ve got going on, starting with the large Black Cherry Punch I’ve got in flower. This strain was bred by in house genetics and today is day 24. Sorry about the color

Should be some frosty stuff by the time she finishes!

That one certainly took advantage of all the space...it's wall to wall in there!
Well, she got stuck in veg for about 4 months... so I transplanted her into 7 gallons of soil and trained the branches as low as I could before I flipped her.

Hey everybody,
Here’s something new - the plants in the grandpa glue closet.

heres the grandpa glue herself. I got her quite bushy for a GG4. It was kind of hard to do.

I can’t exactly show you the reversal branch.. it’s sorta buried. I’m confident this run will be far more fruitful than the last go in this same space. I’ve put cob panel in there. Here’s the biggest s1 female that’ll receive a load of pollen, the Black Cherry Punch:

Plenty o’ bud sites there. I’m going to be harvesting the pollen a la @Carcass ’s link and hitting every plant with as much pollen as they’ll take.

here are the other two strains,
Sour bubba left and It’s It Punch right

Sour bubba lanky as always.. and the IIP is almost entirely single finger leaves... very weird. Also it grows like a rosemary with branches every centimeter.. with calyxes at the bottom of each branch. I had to thin them out significantly and direct growth to a few strong branches. Super weird.

speaking of super weird, out of the 4x4 we have the grandpa punch growing a webbed leaf. Northwest leave’s second and third fingers are attaches to the large.. south East is normal. Cooky

Lastly, the time lapse cam came today!
I set up a tester time lapse to take place over the next 24 hours, I’ll have something to show then but it seems quite promising indeed. I can check on my garden from anywhere!... I can even do it right now, yep everything’s fine in there.
Til tomorrow! :blunt:

Oh yeah! The closet is flip + 1 today!

Hey folks,

little update today, day 6. The four initial seedlings are looking established and getting larger. They’re all working on their second set of true leaves. The other two seeds are putting out their first pair of true leaves still, but in a month you probably won’t notice the difference. LA Cheese looking very happy, praying to the light and putting out jagged leaves. Still slow rolling but we’re gradually picking up steam.
Clockwise starting top left:
LA Cheese
Killer A5 Haze
Garlic Sherbert
Chemdog
Grandpa Punch
Xanadu
That’s pretty much it for now.. I think once the cups are dry I will scratch some wow mycorrhizae into the soil surface and water it in. That should significantly help these plants pick up velocity.
:lot-o-toke:

I’ve also got a fun toy coming on Wednesday that should add an interesting element to my journal!
Very nice array of genetics, Chef! I'm most interested in the Grandpa Punch, just because! :Rasta:

Thanks for stopping in GDB! Did you see how it has a webbed leaf?? Kinda strange. All the other GP plants I’ve seen have been top shelf, so I’m expecting more of the same.

Webbed but otherwise healthy looking. That would not concern me! :Rasta:

All caught up @ChefDGreen! Looking good. I empathise with the seeds  Through a combination of fatfingers and "cultivating under the influence" :ganjamon: I've had some right blunders myself! Glad you managed to catch yours just in time though.

Who has seen Bruce Lee - Enter The Dragon? This picture immediately made me think of that movie haha! Looking good!

Ohhh it’s not concerning, just kinda cooky! The GP is way out ahead of the pack now.

Did you happen upon a few of those beans for yourself??

Hey there Genie, and thanks for catching up! You know around here we cultivate the influence... so you better be under it!
I’m just glad the chemdog made it through the germination stage... regardless of which cup it was in! Heh

you mean at the end with all the mirrors?? Yeah I was thinking those photos right in the closet might be a tad confusing, visually. I’ll have to take the next round of photos just in front of the door or something.

thanks for checkin the journal out guys

Exactly yea  It gave me crazy de javu

It's all good man. It makes for a trippy photo - which is a great combination with the influence

Alright well, the tester video for the time lapse cam was a bit of a bust. I started it at 11am and it went until 9pm, so 10 hours. That ten hours turned out a video of almost 7 minutes, weighing in at a whopping 980mb... so that’s certainly not going to work. I’ll have to increase the interval length and do another tester... maybe 1 photo per minute?

Sorry about the color
You’re forgiven, but I didn’t look ;)

the other pics are looking good tho! And the seed making project is pretty exciting. Should be some fun poly hybrids
:passitleft:
maybe 1 photo per minute?
:thumb: Might still be to often - if so, try every 4-5 minutes. Or even 10minutes.

There’s ways of working it out in advance if you’re inclined. Film has a frames-per-second rate and most standard movies our software spits out are 24fps - but you can sometimes set it yourself for 12fps or 32fps.

if you assume your final will be 24fps - you could decide how long you want the video duration to be, calculate the seconds and then work out how often to take a frame based on that.

or just try a few. Every 5 or 10 minutes a good place to start. Lots of fun!
