Mars Hydro FC4800 Showcase

Hey everybody and welcome to my Mars Hydro grow journal. In this thread we will be running the FC4800 in a 120x120 tent and hopefully growing some fantastic plants. I don't doubt this monster of a light for a second so first let's see what Mars has to say about this beauty.

Superb Quality LED Chips: The whole light is composed of 1680 pcs Samsung lm301b chips. More than two times as many LEDs are used to drive the grow lights at low currents and to avoid overdrive. Quality is guaranteed and efficiency is up to 2.85 μmol/j.

Even PAR Distribution and High PPFD Output: The multi-light bar design and the densely distributed light chips enable the LED grow lights to achieve the optimum PPFD required for plant growth over the entire effective coverage area.

Specifically Designed Spectrum: To ensure even plant growth, blue and red light are enhanced on the basis of a full spectrum combination. Not only does this accelerate plant growth, but it also improves the yield and quality of the plants at the same time.

Dimming Daisy Chain Function: The dimming function saves on electricity costs and enables brightness from 10% to 100% for the different stages of plant growth. A single master light can connect up to 30 lights in a daisy-chain system.

Business LED Grow Light: The light's wavy heat sink dissipates heat quickly. 180° collapsible feature for easier installation. All these features provide favorable assistance for commercial cultivation.

Sounds fancy eh? My first impression upon opening the box was "wow! That's mahoosive!" It's huge compared to every other light that I've ever owned and at first glance I thought "what have I gotten myself into".
The assembly is actually quite straightforward and it only took a couple minutes to do after the initial shock had past....

IMG_20220624_223436_copy_6000x4500.jpg

It comes with the hanging cables so no need to purchase anymore of those and also some daisy chaining cables. You also get a user manual but I won't be opening that. That would be cheating! Lol. If you need to open it then do so....
IMG_20220624_223449_copy_6000x4500.jpg
One thing I was surprised by was the massive driver. Its huge compared to the standard ones which have come all of my other lights over the years. But then the light is pretty powerful so it's nice to know that the driver looks up to the job....
IMG_20220624_223443_copy_6000x4500.jpg

The driver slides onto the back of the light and you just screw on some rubber breaks rather than screws. It is so you can position the driver in the most appropriate place rather than it being set in one location.
The light is quite sturdy though I'd recommend some help getting it hung up as you wouldn't want to bash it about while trying to hang the light.

So let's see what it is like....
IMG_20220624_224701~2_copy_6000x4500.jpg

It is by far the brightest looking light that I've used. Seriously powerful stuff and it has no problems covering the 120x120 space. It has been mounted at the top of the tent and I've not bothered with the hanging cables. Despite being large it is very tidy and looks excellent....
IMG_20220624_224725_copy_6000x4500.jpg

Here is the light set at the lowest point on the dimmer (yes, it can be dimmed)....
IMG_20220624_224643_copy_4500x6000.jpg

The lighting looks quite cool when set to low and looks like it could cook a chicken when turned up to the max....
IMG_20220624_224652_copy_4500x6000.jpg

Now I suppose we should find something to grow under it. Back in a mo...

So I had these 4 just sitting about and doing nothing so I thought I'd best put them to good use....
IMG_20220624_225706_copy_4500x6000.jpg

They look a bit rough at the moment as they were smuggled across town in some bin liners but they'll be fine. What we have here is two strains from DNA Genetics and two from TH Seeds. From DNA we have....

Holy Grail Kush. This one is the best at vegging. She has been chopped back many times and keeps on wanting more....
IMG_20220624_225717_copy_4500x6000.jpg

DNA Cake. I liked the look of this one before I let her get root bound. Then the problems started and she never really recovered. Now that she is in a larger pot and a more appropriate space she will get better.
IMG_20220624_225713_copy_4500x6000.jpg

From THSeeds we have....

London Mint Cake. This one sounds pretty good and is a solid growing plant. It is almost as vigorous as the Holy Grail Kush in veg....
IMG_20220624_225721_copy_4500x6000.jpg

Stracciatella. This one started out very slow growing. I almost removed her for something else but then she woke up after a month or so and almost caught up with the rest.

So that is the group we are working with first. If all goes well then we'll have a vote on the next round of plants in a month or so.
These will sit for a week to allow for any transplant shock to pass and then we will flip to flower.
That's all for now, I'll be back with an update in a couple of days. For now though happy growing and play safe.

:ciao:

Indoor growing again? Noice!

I'm in. :ciao:

Cali Orange and Curlylotto are my early votes.
Hey ,Shed!

I've teamed up with a like-minded individual in a kind of ,I have the knowhow and he has the security deal. I could be a good partnership.

I fear that your early vote may be a wasted one. How about the Kosher X runts?
Yay for indoor Prof! I’ll hang about and watch the buds build.
It's much more comfortable growing indoors lol. Hey HH!
Count me in too!
Counted you are! How is it N?
Hey HashGirl! Let's grow some bud shall we?

Hey 420.

So, the plants have been sitting under the FC4800 for a week and parhaps latter today we can flip to flower. It seems like they have adjusted well to the new environment and I'm happy with them all. The worst of the bunch which is the DNA Cake is noticeably better and all are of a good size so I'm pretty much ready to flip.
I have yet to install an extractor fan and filter which is the last thing we need to do. Despite this the temps are still good with the light being on full power....

IMG_20220703_190728_copy_4500x6000.jpg

I'll probably use a net for this grow to try and get the plants spread wide.

That last one looks worse than she is.
So I've gotten some trays to catch the runoff and yesterday they were given a good watering....

A few shots of the healthy new growth....

So that's that. Tonight we should be flipping the lights to 12/12 and then we are on our way. No going back now. I'll report back as soon as that is done.
Happy growing everyone.

You'll like the @Mars Hydro FC4800. I finished a run that I had started under another light, and I'm about 2/3 of the way through a full grow with mine. Through veg and a couple weeks into bloom, I had it at 75% power. Frankly I think I could run all the way through bloom at 75% and still have great results in my 100x100 tent. It has a very even footprint.

Current, used the entire grow

Previous, used last several weeks of bloom

Hell yeah! That looks amazing. If that's what it's like at 75% then what's it going be like at 100! Fortunately I'm not paying for the electricity so we're going to find out lol.
I'm in a 120x120 so it's a bit more stretched than yours but it looks like it'll handle it well.
Thanks for the visual encouragement, farside.

Lookin good Prof,I really like the even spread you get with a bar light, I have no personal experience with one but from everything I’ve seen about them your plants will love it!

Congrats on the up coming flip! As usual you have some cool looking strains that I look forward to seeing how they turn out in flower!

I'm not experienced with one either. I was originally going to do this grow using 4 individual lights to try and achieve the same coverage which would have been messy. I don't think the spread would have been as good either. This light has really made things easier.
Congrats on the up coming flip! As usual you have some cool looking strains that I look forward to seeing how they turn out in flower!
Hopefully I'll be flipping them in a couple of hours. It'll be nice having some new strains to try. I'm almost out of the Black Domina and Acapulco Gold from the last harvest so I can't wait to flip lol.

Hey 420.
I decided against flipping the the lights to 12/12 and gave the plants a few more days to grow. I also gave them another drink with some feed in it for good measure. It is for the most part looking very good. Just the stunted DNA Cake which has fallen behind a bit but the other 3 look awesome. So last night I unplugged the light and set up the timer so we are officially on flowering day one today.

These lights are really good so far. We are in a heatwave right now and the temps are manageable even when the tent wasn't being ventilated. We will be sorting that out though as it's time for flowering....

See what I mean about the DNA Cake. She'll be alright and is actually larger than most of my normal veg plants that I grow. The others will be super cropped and a net is going to be installed in a couple of weeks so parhaps it won't be so bad.
Anyway, what's that for now. Back in a couple of days to get them watered again and to check on the early flowering progress. Hope everyone is good and happy growing.

Hey 420. Today is flowering day number 9. There should have been an update already but my camera ran out of battery when I went to check on the plants last.
Today we had a little hiccup. As some of you may know, there is a little heat wave going on at the moment and things are pretty warm. The temps aren't actually too bad in the tent but the Holy Grail Kush which drinks a lot dried out a bit too much. As the plants aren't in my house I can't check on them daily like I would do normally. Most of her large fans dried up but the growth tips were ok. I caught her just in time I think. Other than that things seem good. One more thing was that the DNA Cake got very top heavy and toppled over lol. She's been temporarily supported and next week I'll get the net in place. She should be alright but I'm not expecting amazing things from here. As long as she gets over the finish line I'll be happy. So, other than that, things seem good....

As the heatwave is still ongoing I'm going to check on the ladies more often.
Hope you're well and happy growing everyone.
:passitleft:

:yahoo:Great to see you back with an indoor setup mate. Ladies are looking great. I'm sure the thirsty one will bounce back quick. A little warm over here right now hey.
Hey, Vet.
I'm pretty happy to be doing something back indoors. It's considerably easier than running around the countryside lol. Especially in this weather. Good to hear from you buddy.
