Hey everybody and welcome to my Mars Hydro grow journal. In this thread we will be running the FC4800 in a 120x120 tent and hopefully growing some fantastic plants. I don't doubt this monster of a light for a second so first let's see what Mars has to say about this beauty.
Superb Quality LED Chips: The whole light is composed of 1680 pcs Samsung lm301b chips. More than two times as many LEDs are used to drive the grow lights at low currents and to avoid overdrive. Quality is guaranteed and efficiency is up to 2.85 μmol/j.
Even PAR Distribution and High PPFD Output: The multi-light bar design and the densely distributed light chips enable the LED grow lights to achieve the optimum PPFD required for plant growth over the entire effective coverage area.
Specifically Designed Spectrum: To ensure even plant growth, blue and red light are enhanced on the basis of a full spectrum combination. Not only does this accelerate plant growth, but it also improves the yield and quality of the plants at the same time.
Dimming Daisy Chain Function: The dimming function saves on electricity costs and enables brightness from 10% to 100% for the different stages of plant growth. A single master light can connect up to 30 lights in a daisy-chain system.
Business LED Grow Light: The light's wavy heat sink dissipates heat quickly. 180° collapsible feature for easier installation. All these features provide favorable assistance for commercial cultivation.
Sounds fancy eh? My first impression upon opening the box was "wow! That's mahoosive!" It's huge compared to every other light that I've ever owned and at first glance I thought "what have I gotten myself into".
The assembly is actually quite straightforward and it only took a couple minutes to do after the initial shock had past....
It comes with the hanging cables so no need to purchase anymore of those and also some daisy chaining cables. You also get a user manual but I won't be opening that. That would be cheating! Lol. If you need to open it then do so....
One thing I was surprised by was the massive driver. Its huge compared to the standard ones which have come all of my other lights over the years. But then the light is pretty powerful so it's nice to know that the driver looks up to the job....
The driver slides onto the back of the light and you just screw on some rubber breaks rather than screws. It is so you can position the driver in the most appropriate place rather than it being set in one location.
The light is quite sturdy though I'd recommend some help getting it hung up as you wouldn't want to bash it about while trying to hang the light.
So let's see what it is like....
It is by far the brightest looking light that I've used. Seriously powerful stuff and it has no problems covering the 120x120 space. It has been mounted at the top of the tent and I've not bothered with the hanging cables. Despite being large it is very tidy and looks excellent....
Here is the light set at the lowest point on the dimmer (yes, it can be dimmed)....
The lighting looks quite cool when set to low and looks like it could cook a chicken when turned up to the max....
Now I suppose we should find something to grow under it. Back in a mo...
