Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Express

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Growing outdoors gives you the opportunity to allow the indigenous biomass to grow the plants for you. You feed the soil and the soil feeds the plants. The most beneficial of the biomass community are the mycorrhizal, whose connections reach much further than we've been able to track. The myco will deliver food requested by a plant if they have to transport it from across the field. I kid you not, they're a powerful agricultural force. Nothing we can do will hold a candle to what the myco can do for your beauties.

If you encase the roots you restrict the ability of the myco to assist you. I say let the roots mingle freely with the biosphere.

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Well, hello All,

Some things have finalized and I'm none to happy about the way the chips have fallen.

Because of my money situation, I am unable to plant the 20 plants I wanted to plant. For several reasons. First of all, my holes are supposed to be 3 feet across and 2 feet down, especially when you're planting in almost exclusively clay, as I am. Given that, it would cost more than $400 in just earth, not to mention additives, to fill holes so large. I just don't have an extra $400 over what I've already purchased, which was about $80 worth of dirt.

Also, I am unable to dig the holes myself and have had to pay a local friend to do it for me. However, he works much more slowly than I had realized and he's only dug 2 holes in about 4.5 hours. I'm paying him $15 bucks an hour and so there's absolutely no way I can pay for all those holes in the yard to be dug. So we've got 2 holes now and it'll stay at that.

The wife-bot is so damned kind. She's offered to make me as many "potato boxes" as she can in the next week before planting day. We'll use the potato boxes to plant my weed into. I figure she'll make about 2 boxes in that time. Again, we're running out of wood for it all and are now at the point of taking apart pallets for wood for the potato boxes. Maybe she'll finish more than 2. She's already finished 1/2 of one today.

The rest will have to go in these 10 gallon fabric pots we own.

I'm so bummed. I had glorious dreams of these wonderful plants that were going to grow in the earth and grow into these beautiful, dark lovelies. Oh well. So they'll be smaller. Much smaller.

But I'll do the best I can. It will be interesting to see the difference between the plants grown in the earth in the ground to ones grown in the potato boxes to ones grown in the bags. I'm actually looking forward to seeing that. But I'd rather my own plants were all in the ground and I were seeing that experiment in someone else's pot patch!

But I do have a couple of pics for you tonight. I'll have more tomorrow but my camera battery died after a couple of shots tonight. So I'll show you those other shots I want to take tomorrow.

This first shot shows the plants I want to plant this year. You may notice that a couple of the leaves are discoloured. I think all of those leaves were on the clones at the time that I snipped them from their mothers who were going through potassium deficiency at the time (I think). So that's what that's from. There are:

5 Pineapple Express
5 Big Bud
2 Critical Mass
1 AK-47
1 Northern Lights X Mazar

Sounds like it might give a nice bounty for an outdoor summer haul, eh? I hope so. I'm going for a nice balance between Sativas and Indicas, THC and CBD. I think that'll do me fine. My prescription allows me to grow 10 plants outdoors, but I'm going to grow a couple more. Maybe I shouldn't, but I'm so concerned that 10 plants just won't give me enough cannabis to hold me for a year, especially since I'm now growing mostly in bags and not the earth.

So here's a pic of the Naughty Nellies themselves...

DSC_9510.JPG

Here's a pic of a couple of smaller, runt-like plants that I'm not planning on planting because I just cannot afford the soil, the extra bags or the additives. But I do have a little spot (that I'll show you more of tomorrow) near the chicken coop where I've been planting those runts already, the ones that probably aren't going to live. I'm not going to help these plants along now. They're basically on their own from here on out. No watering. No nutrients. Nothing. Except maybe I might cover them come mid-August to force them into flower like the rest of the plants around the house. But basically, these plants are throwaway plants, the plants that lived on their own. Then I'm going to see what kind of harvest I get from them. I just cannot afford to look after them, so i'm at least giving them something. I'm kinda planting them in little holes. Then we'll see what happens. Anyway, I've planted 11 little runts there already and clearly at least 3 of them are going to die, but more of them seem like they'll thrive! I can't really believe it, but they're growing down there. Anyway, these plants in this pic are slated for that graveyard of cannabis plants...

DSC_9511.JPG

These next two shots are of the holes that are mostly dug. The second one still needs about 3/4 of a foot taken out of it. But this should give you an understanding of just how big a 3 foot by 2 foot hole actually is! Whew!

DSC_9512.JPG

DSC_9513.JPG

And this last shot is a pic of the actual growing area I have. I'm hoping to pay James, my young friend with such high aspirations that you've heard about before in here, to come here periodically during the summer to dig holes whenever we can afford to pay him. Maybe we can have a total of 10 holes dug by the end of summer. That would be sweet because with my prescription allowing me to grow 10 outdoor plants per year, then next year I can grow the 10 I'm allowed right in the ground and not have to worry about growing extras. I'll probably grow in my secret little garden where my misfits and abortions go to live (the little spot I was mentioning where my runts are planted).

DSC_9514.JPG

Tune in sometime tomorrow to check out that little Garden of Misfits. I hope you are not disappointed.

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Okay, so I had these clones that didn't do so well and I had to choose from all the clones I had which ones I was going to plant in the yard. Once I had decided on 10 or so clones, I had these runts left over. I didn't want to just throw them out so I dug some small holes in this hidden spot out back just next to the cow pasture and I planted all of those runts. Now, not all have survived, but some of them look like they're going to do okay. I've got pics of those clones here.

All of these clones, though I didn't record which pics were which clones, are either Big Buds or Pineapple Expresses. There's a healthy mix of both, but I think more of the Big Buds are going to survive over the Pineapple Expresses.

Either way, here's the pics. Thought you might be interested in seeing. And if they do well enough, then I'll document the grow here along with the main grow this summer. Wouldn't that be cool, to have two marijuana gardens instead of one. Mind you, it will cause problems when it comes time to cover them to produce night time conditions so that they'll flower...

But here's the pics:

ps some of them look healthier than others, but I think they'll all survive.

You can see the little popsicle stick beside some of them and if you can read it, then BB means Big Bud and PE means Pineapple Express.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peak of my secret garden. No one knows its location except the wife-bot and no one is going to know, either. That way if I get busted for my one grow, hopefully they won't find this grow. Mind you, I doubt I'll get busted. My other grow is a legal grow...

So there you have it. All the plants from yesterday plus these ones from today and you have my complete grow for tomorrow. Oh, and the second pic of plants from yesterday's posting will be planted in this same plot that you see in this posting. They, too, are clones that haven't done so well.

Also, I now see that I was too close to some of them to get them into focus. Sorry about that. I'll do better next time. Promise.

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Yeah, it makes me feel pretty good. It's set against a bunch of vegetation (you can see their shadows in the pics) so they'll be even harder to see. I hope. I really do hope because in late August every year my landlady's son, who grazes cattle in our pasture, comes with a bunch of men and they work with the cattle for about a day. They'll be standing about 20 - 50 feet from my not-so-secret garden during that day! Yikes!

I'm counting on foliage, inattention to their surroundings, work detail and sheer lack of knowledge of what a weed plant looks like to all lend a hand in keeping my garden secret during that day. Last thing I need is the authorities getting wind of it. Or even a carfull of drunken teenagers coming to visit. I once had to turn away 4 teenagers from my front door who said they had a gun and wanted my Fentanyl patches (which I highly doubt because their supposed gun trumped my baseball bat no problem, right?).

Note to self: Yet another reason to get off the Fentanyl patches; because there'll be fewer drunken teenagers to turn away from your front door with a baseball bat -- as long as they don't get knowledge of your enormous weed stash (which I hope to amass at the end of Autumn).

Cheers!

Sorry you had to deal with that, the sad part is our government's would rather give us drugs like that then let us grow our own. Hope all works out, I'll definitely be following!

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Time for a pictorial update. So much has happened and I haven't had time to take pics nor to update my journal. Seriously, I've been terribly swamped.

So here are the pics to tell the tale.

This first pic is of a planted Critical Mass (not all of the plants are planted yet as you will see). It is planted in a hole in the ground, not a box. We're migrating to boxes because they are much easier to deal with. Easier to make (much easier) easier to deal with. Just easier. So this is a Critical Mass planted in a hole. Very good for my back and anxiety difficulties.

DSC_9590.JPG

Doing well, isn't she? Actually, all the plants that have been planted are doing well. This next one is a Big Bud, also good for back and anxiety trouble.

DSC_95911.JPG

This next is a Pineapple Express. Not too good for back and anxiety troubles, but good for getting stoned! It is living in a 2' x 3' x 3' box that the wife-bot made for me. Nice wife, don't you think?

DSC_9592.JPG

This next is a Critical Mass, planted in a box.

DSC_9593.JPG

This next little guy surprised me with giving up flowers these past couple of days! He's a Northern Lights x Mazar, so he's an auto, but I didn't think he'd go off so quickly so damned soon, either. But she has. So here the tiny thing is with her flowers in sight, too.

DSC_9594.JPG

Here are the runts of the litter in all their smallish glory. Remember, the runts of the group... They are mostly Big Buds with one tiny Pineapple Express tucked away somewhere in there.

DSC_9595.JPG

This next shot shows my remaining plants that need planting in boxes. On the left are my BB, in the middle one lone AK-47 and to the right are my PE's.

DSC_9596.JPG

Here is my compost pile I took the compost from for planting the plants into. I'll use it for brewing compost tea all summer long, too.

DSC_9597.JPG

And since we're over in this part of the yard, might as well show you what has been stealing my attention away from the journal... My garden! Right here we have my strawberries...

DSC_9598.JPG

My tomatoes!

DSC_9599.JPG

My herb garden!

DSC_9600.JPG

The rest of my garden!

DSC_9601.JPG

Okay, back to my OTHER HERB garden, okay?!?

Here's the trailer that will carry the water tank to my neighbour and back to water my garden and weed because I can't use my water because there\s something wrong with it and all...

DSC_9602.JPG

This is another box waiting and ready to be filled and used and another one being built.

DSC_9603.JPG

And I suppose that is it, right-o.

If you have any questions, please just ask. I'm certainly willing to answer questions, but I don't know what they would be before being asked.

Hey Magnus8, lookin like a thing of beauty, and a joy to behold! That dark earth you have overturned looks very fertlie. Well begun is half done!!

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Great photos, Magnus! Your plants all look so healthy and substantial. Hard to believe you just planted them. Well done!

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Hi All!,

Hope this finds you all well and enjoying springtime. I've been working hard to get my grow in their boxes. At this point, six or seven plants (can't remember the final tally right now) are in either boxes or in holes in the ground. Another five are in large cloth bags. I have one more plant and one more 3x3x2 foot grow box to fill with it. Once that plant is planted then my planting is finally done for the summe. Unless we miraculously come into enough money to purchase both the wood and the soil to fill it with because this business of hauling earth from the garden to fill these boxes is murdering my back. Seriously.

So though i don't have pictures to show you right now, i should have some by the end of the day for you.

As for the rest of the garden all goes well. Zuchinnis are up and poking their huge heads above the earth. Peas are mostly up and eagerly awaiting the chance to produce excellent friuts. The corn has risen. Does that make the wife-bot and i children of the corn? I hope so. Ever since reading the book when i was twelve i always wanted to be one of those children.

So the wife-bot built me a potatoe box. Apparently, when done right, you can grow up to 100 lbs of potatoes in one of them. When it is done right, mind you. I think i stsrted my potatoe box rather late to harvest 100 lbs of spuds. But i shoul be able to get a few feeds out of the thing and then stsrt it earlier in the spring.

A potstoe box, for those who don't knoe is a means of growing your vegetables vertically to increase yields and to

Okay. So pics later. Watch for it. And have a great Saturday in between!

All my best,
Magnus

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

Subbing up Magnus. Interested in seeing how these strains perform that far north. Guess I am even further north than you, but if some of these survive till harvest in your location, there is a tiny chance I can too. Been wondering about doing outdoor every year, but always backing out due to summer never coming. But we have 2 months time with temperatures above or not so much under 20°C. I believe especially auto's have a good chance. But with photo's I think I would have to black them out somehow to give them 12 hours darkness to induce flowering to get till harvest before first night of frost. That happens mid october here with snow coming in november.

It will be interesting to see your great challenge here and I wish you the best of luck. May your struggle be rewarded with a wonderful harvest. Have a splendid day Magnus

It sure gets' quiet around 420 outdoor grow sites this time of season !! Taking good care of the girls assume. Don't forget a day of fishing or festivals. I can only imagine the goofy festivals in some places in the name of fun, we have fun at !! Sure gets' busy fun in the summer sun. Stay busy all, reefer always, see you later Magnus8 as I am the same this season! :circle-of-love:

I pray all is well friend and you are busy with your grow. The harvest will bring an end, and I'm sure you'll let us know. Stay well and peace:circle-of-love: Magnus8 our friend.

Hi Deville.

From what I understand, Magnus is having computer issues again so that's why he hasn't been online much. If I hear from him, I'll let him know you're worried.

Re: Magnus' Summer Outdoor - Soil 15 AK47, Crit Mass, Ice Bomb, NL, Big Bud, Pin Expr

H'lo everyone!

(And thank you so much for the concern, Deville. There was a lot going on, not just the computer issues.)

I must say that I apologize profusely. I had wanted to give you all a great show this year. A great show, a great grow. Well, I'm having a great grow, as you'll see in a minute, but HashGirl was correct. My computer died at about the same time as my tablet this spring and I had no way of updating my threads. None whatsoever. I am so very sorry about this. I guess I could have gone in to the library, except I don['t think you're allowed to use your own memory cards in their machines. Either way, I apologize profusely on all you missed out on this summer.

But with that said, there was also a couple of other things getting in the way. I dropped into a seriously bad depresssion (a disease I live with every day of my life) this spring that I'm only now coming out of (at least I hope I'm coming out of it now). If you know anything about depression, you know how hard it is to even get the simplest things in life done. Well, despite the depression I still had a contract to make good on.

Most of you know that I'm a writer, and I've just recently sold my first novel to a publisher in California. My end of the contract states that I have to go through an editing process with my editor. Well, we've been editing since the beginning of January and are now on Chapter XII. Let me tell you -- it is hard! So, despite the depression I've had to make sure that I meet my professional obligations.

I am also beginning to plan out my book tour for when the book is released. I'll be starting a Kickstarter.com campaign to raise money for the marketing tour that will begin in May 2018, long weekend. I want to start at Brown University, their reunIon weekend (and my alma mater). Then I want to travel through CT, MA, ME, NH, VT (and have I missed any of those states?) for about a month. I'm planning on purchasing one of those camper vans and travelling in that, sleeping in that, cooking in that, freezing in that (no way -- i want one with a propane heater!). I thought I'd secure my solar panel to the top of the van and keep the battery for inside and the converter and then be able to make coffee in the mornings and power up anything else that needs power (like a lamp in the evenings). I think it's a great plan, and if any of you want to help out, there's always the Kickstarter.com campaign coming up. I'll let everyone know about it when it is live. Even if you don't want to fund $25 or $50 for the campaign, I'd still love you opinion on how I've put the video together.

Other great news: Work on Finding Max goes really well. I'm really happy with the editing job we're doing together, my editor and I. She's really smart and really nice about how she suggests edits -- right the way to treat me when I'm depressed. Seriously, I'm falling in love with my editor. Too bad I'm already madly in love with someone closer to home...

I've also been working on writing the sequel to Finding Max, titled tentatively, Loving Max. I've also been working out the plot details for the third and final book in the trilogy - Discovering Max. So I'm really pleased with myself and all the work I've been doing this summer.

Finding Max, in case you don't know, is a thriller/suspense novel. In the first chapter, 2 young brothers are playing unsupervised in a playground close to home. When the older brother turns around, the younger one is gone. 17 years later, they meet up again by chance. The novel turns around this relationship and the growing relationship between Gary (the elder brother) and his new girlfriend, Jean, and the third to the triangle, the younger brother Max. Within all this mess they must outwit and evade the devious plans of Quinn who seeks to re-abduct Max for his own evil purposes. A page-turner that touches on deep emotional values, Finding Max is a thriller/suspense novel like no other.

But I bet you didn't come here for a synopsis of my novel, Finding Max, now did you? Bet you came for the pics. Okay, then. Let's get to it!

This first pic is a CBD Critical Mass. Now, I don't know the difference in effects between the CBD critical mass and the regular critical mass.

The second plant is a Pineapple Express.

The third plant is a Big Bud.

Fourth is another CBD critical mass.

The rest are all either Big Bud or Pineapple Express clones.

There's one AK-47,, but I'm not sure which one it is, but it's in a pot, not in a planter or hole. I'll know it when I smoke it I suppose.

So that's what survived the seedling stage. Don't know why I had so many seeds that didn't germinate. I used the same method as always that always works. Think I got a bum deal on the seeds, actually.

So here they are.

Okay, so something is messed up here.l For some reason I cannot post the pics that I uploaded to the server only moments ago. Damnit! Don't know if this is a server problem or a problem with my new tablet (no, cannot afford a new computer so I bought a tablet and throught it woul help me get my work on the editing done and post in the forums here. At least I thought I'd be able to post my pics!)

I have to go into town later this morning anyway for a meeting. I'll head down to the library and plead with them to let me use my own memory card. They know me and trust me, I imagine, so manbe they'll let me.

Damnit. Now I'm pissed.

Magnus.

:yahoo:

YAY! Magnus is back!

I missed you. Sorry to hear of the depression and since I get depressed, too, I totally get it.

Hope you get the picture thing figured out.

Take care.
