Maer's 540W Advanced LED — G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

I don't think you need to keep the RH below 50% quite yet. They are still in the veg-transition stage and 60% is fine for them until they start to show some flowers, stop stretching. That is the point when I am concerned with the RH above 50%, because of potential budrot or PM.

I don't know how your coolant res could change that much. You have a large thermal mass that is insulated. Once you have the point set on your chiller, it should keep it there within a 2 degree variance.

How much room do you have to raise those lights? Once the girls do their stretch you'll need to raise them up. Also, are you planning to SROG them to keep the canopy level and at a manageable height?

I have about 8-12 inches of travel. I have a backup plan that entails getting a new DH which will be shorter, but it will be pretty hairy changing out the DH with the plants still in there. The reason I am up at 4am is to check the temps. lights off in 45 mins and the temp is 91 in the room. Graph below.

I have access to a hotel style ice maker I plan to drain out the coolant res and add fresh water through a cooler full of ice, that should start the water out nice and cold then we will see the real deal.

And here is what happens at lights *off, the humidity shoots up which is why I cant lower the setting b/c it will be re f*cknig diculous when the lights go out.

This sh*t is stressful....

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

Don't get too stressed out. Sometimes too much information is a bad thing. Humidity will almost always shoot up after lights out, that's just the nature of the beast. Don't sweat that too much. It looks like it is only going to about 60% which is still in range for veg (consider your girls in veg until they stop stretching and start bushing out).

Honestly, I have no clue what my RH is after lights out, and I don't worry about it too much. Just keep the air moving in the room and you should be fine as long as your high's don't get over the 60% for lights out.

Day 2 Bloom

45 Coolant res temp
65 res temp
5.5 pH
1465 ppm
2.0 EC

5 minutes to lights on. When I read the pH this morning it was 6.4, I added a teaspoon of pH down (citric acid) waited 45mins and it was 5.5

The leaves had tons more burn today, so I raised the lights to 24". The only ones with burn were under the 400W DS, again showing how powerful the light is, it is not to be messed with.

I added 50lbs of ice this morning to the coolant res which was at 74, that lowered it to about 62 over the course of the daytime (lights off) it rose to 65. I added 100lbs of ice about an hour ago and dropped it from 65 to 41, it since has risen to 45. I set my chiller to 56 based on the temp difference between the fluid and the res when things settle out the res should stay at 65.

The room temp in my mech room was at 84 this morning. The chiller shut off and it dropped down to 74... I am thinking I have 2 problems 1. An under powered chiller 2. Too much heat buildup from the chiller. So I ordered a 6" centrifugal fan and I plan to build a box for the chiller and suck air from in the room out through my stealth window box.

Geez maer with how much preparation you did for this set up you deserve to have a worry free grow. Im sure you did a test run to check for leaks but did you do a trial grow for a couple days to work out environmental issues at all? I honestly couldnt blame you if you didnt. I would love to tear such a badass system up as soon as possible! Dont worry though, cannabis is a strong plant and can overcome many obstacles. I just hope that you can get your levels to be satisfactory, consistantly, which, with you technical diligence, im sure isnt much more than a few extra tweaks here and there. Im very surprised your DS is actually burning the leaves. Or do you mean that bleaching burn effect and not an actual heat burn?

No bleaching, they were at 20 inches the recommended is 24 so I moved them up today.

I think either my chiller is bad or I need a bigger one. On Monday I should have that new fan to keep the mech room temps under control. Maybe that will help the chiller. The manual says it needs to be under 90 in the room, which it has been, so I am thinking the chiller is bad.

What size pump is on your chiller? You actually need a lower output pump in most cases. It gives the coolant more contact time with the coils in the chiller to do their thing. That's it one of the reasons I have a manifold and throttle the chiller back to a slow flow.

And an addendum: throttle the output, not the input. Cavitation is a Bad Thing on pumps.

The pump is 1800gph but yea I do feather back the input on the chiller.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

What size pump does the chiller company recommend? I agree w/ throttling back a bunch. Can you physically make sure there is actual circulation occurring? Hand over the outlet or something? Why does the dehum ramp up after lights out? Is it on timer, is it running during the ramp up? You can see it cycling nice and even then it just shuts off. Several hours later it starts back up.....doesn't make sense. Our humidity definitely shoots up after lights out. Have and extra dehum set 5% higher than the first (primary one) to help out, got 400 sq feet though, not a closet.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

You probably need about 300~400 GPH on the chiller, much more than that and the coolant is moving too fast to really get a chance to cool off efficiently.

Edit: I just looked at my instructions that came with my Aquachill 132 (good for a 132 gal res), it recommends 235 gph, the next larger chiller, the 264 recommends 475 gph.

The specs are 633 min and 1056 max. The 1800GPH pump runs the whole manifold, so at the setting I have it at I doubt the chiller is getting more than 1056.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

Guys, thanks so so so so much. I feathered back the input to the chiller as much as possible without the pump making noise, I opened everything else full bore and... the temp has gone from 78 to 74 in just a couple hours. Thank you again OG13 and Steve(t)H(e)man!

It is a 1/4 HP chiller by ecoplus, got it for 499 and free shipping.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

I think I am going to buy some of those in line flow rate monitors. I can attach one to each output on the manifold and know what my rates are.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

It should continue to drop. I run a coil-chiller in my brew system, it is more efficient at lower flow rates, same principal as the chiller. That 1/4 hp chiller should have no problem bringing a 55 gal res into line quickly with the right flow rate.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

At work it is all specs specs specs, so I figured the higher range of the spec is always better.

My sig used to be "If brute force is not working, you are not using enough." maybe time to add that in on 420mag.

Re: Maer's 540W Advanced LED – G13/Haze - DIY 4" PVC Revised StevehmaNFT Grow

Picking up my 1/10hp chiller in a cpl hours. Got do a couple macgyver moves on my tubs but very soon I'll basically be running RDWC with no more water temp problems and I can get my freezer back for storing actual food instead of ice jugs! and more room in my tent! So many nice +'s.

I'm only cooling 12 gals and next grow no more than 25 gal so 1/10 should be fine.
