So here's my first grow diary, I've grown for 10 years but this is only my second run starting with seeds. I've always started from clones. My first seed run is going well they are in the 6th week of flowering. So I thought I'd get these seeds off to a start. I paper toweled them 24 hours ago and all 4 of them cracked. So I've put them in some Coco and covered them with a very light layer of damp coco. The MIGRO Led light is at level 1 a very low power right now. I'm just having it turned on to help seed orientation. Even though im using Canna pro plus I still pre treated the coco with a very low dose of CalMag. My starting ec is 0.0 and I dosed it up to 0.2 EC. I'm still finding my way with germinating seeds. And picking up info as I go. I got 4 out 4 on my last effort. So wish me luck.

110 hours in 1st one is up. As I'm new to seedlings I'm still unsure of a strategy that I like ye. I've been running with the light on but it's very low. It seems to be drying the seeds out pretty fast inbetween spraying with water. So I've decided to turn the light off for a few hours and see if that helps. I read on cocoforcanabis that as soon as the heads are up then to leave the light on. But maybe I should of done that after all seeds have fully opened. I think next time I'm going to leave them in total darkness until all seeds are up and open.

Only one Mimosa x Orange Punch sprouted 🤭🤭 I think I drowned the tap root. And after initially taking the seeds from the towel i noticed one of the tap roots was stained brown. Im guessing it was damaged. im still finding my method. I put another Mimosa x Orange Punch in a new propergator with a riot router 72 hours ago and I'm going to attempt germinating 2 Anesia Scout Cookies in a minute. But not sure which method to use. Everyone does different things. Ive read all sorts over the last month or so. I'll eventually find my way.

Ohhhh I’m IN on this one!

I am growing mimosa x orange punch starting in a few weeks!

Looks like you’re off to a good start.

I would suggest reading This thread by @Emilya Green since I’ve followed this method I’ve had 100% success. Even if your not starting them off in their final home the methods are the same :)

Thanks I will definitely take a look.

So the next seed Mimosa x Orange Punch- I put straight into a root riot cube 80 hours ago I never pre- soaked it or paper toweled it. And it's sunk right down now. I don't know what's happening there

I also put in 2 Anesia Scout Cookies into those root riot cubes 18 hours ago. WHICH I DID PRE SOAK IN A GLASS FOR 3 HOURS TILL THEY SANK. and 1 of them has pushed up all ready. I can see a tiny bit off the riot cube that i placed on top of the seed when I put the seed in has been pushed the off by the raising seed.

I'm really struggling with this business of pointy bit up or pointy bit down. I'd rather do pointy bit down right now. But even with a magnifying glass I can't tell which is pointy and which is not. So I'm pretty much going for pot luck right now. It's doing my head in that bit🤣🤣 I'm going to buy some plastic or wooden tweezers or something so I can attempt handle the seeds easer and get a closer look maybe

I don’t pay attention to that LOL my thought is it’s going to figure it out and make its way up and towards the light.

Think about how it works in nature. Seeds don’t always land pointy end down.

Maybe I am completely off here??

I'm beginning to think this way to be honest. But im new to seeds. So im probably overthinking everything.

So the aniesa Scout Cookies seeds came up in less than 36 hours. But the mimosa is still stuck there after 140 hours. It maybe the wrong thing to do but I picked away a little of the riot rooter around the seed to give it more room. And moved the rooters to some Coco and introduced some low light and a gentle mist spray. There is so many different ways people this process. I'm hoping if the lights is not too intense and I keep the right moisture. Everything will work out. 120umols/70 RH/24c 🙏🙏🙏

Ok after a little trial and error. I think I've found my preferred way of germinating. I imagine I will be tweeking it as I go. But after having 4 mimosa and 1 GSC fail to take root in riot rooters. I decided to soak 2 more GSC till they sank and then put them straight into damp pro + coco. I then put them in my seedling tent with the light on. I had a plastic office sheet to hand that I used to cover them. Then just checked them regularly. After 24 hours seeds are up. So I've just removed the cover.

The one in the top right is the only one of 5 seeds that survived the riot rooter in a heated propergator method. She's leggy and I think the rooters have something to do with that. from a new to seed grower I can say I will definitely NEVER be using riot rooters again. 2 of the seeds tap roots were just sitting there on top of the cube. It was like they couldn't push down through the cube. I DONT LIKE THEM

So ive ended up with 3 Anisia Scout Cookies and only 1 Mimosa now. But I can't change the title of my diary to indicate this information. They are looking fine I think. The mimosa (bottom right) seems the strongest but she was germinated a week before the others. I'm a little concerned about the ASC at bottom left she seems to have been trying to get the second set of leaves out for about a week now. I'm concerned what the PH levels might be in the coco, I've been feeding at 6.0 - 6.2 because I read that calcium is more readily available and is better for seedlings in coco. I'm not sure if I should attempt a flush. I'm worried the extra water may stunt growth even more. But as soon as she's got another set of leaves I will definitely flush all four of them with PH 5.9. Any opinions about anything is much appreciated, especially the flush thoughts.

I wouldn't flush just yet, but I would drop the ph of your feed to 5.8.
@Bill284 is who you should ask about problems in coco though.
Your pics look a bit yellow now compared to the earlier ones. I've encountered that problem with some LEDs. Makes the plants look washed out when their colour is actually fine.
Can you adjust the white balance on your camera/phone?

Hey Buddy :ciao: great thread but it doesn't apply here, it's coco not soil. :Namaste:

Hey Mel thanks for the tag.:thanks:
Good morning @Madtabman :ciao:
Coco has a couple simple parameters to follow.
Always feed full strength nutrients daily to run-off at 5.8 ph.
Never any plain water and never let your coco get dry at all.
Sometimes I feed twice a day in flower.
And you need to put calmag in your plain water first, before the nutrients.
Lastly always set ph to 5.8.
Follow these simple coco rules and your girls will be happy.
I use a lot of perlite in my coco for aeration.
Check my Heaven's Shores thread for pictorials and tips.

I'll hang out and help if I can.

Stay safe
Bill284 😎
