Thanks @Krissi1982 that is more than I've been watering for sure. And it sounds like that is more than most people. I would think that always keeping them wet could lead to issues. Of course I 've seen your garden so I know it's working for youI water against the masses choices from what I have seen. I never let them go dry, usually drinking about a half gallon in the morning and one at night. That can vary...
I barely let my veggies get dry..never go more than 1 day without something. Seedlings, different story obviously.
Can you explain 'reserve self water pots'? Does this just mean that when you water, the runoff stays in contact with the bottom of the pot and gets absorbed back up?Oh I also use reserve self water pots so I can't comment on run off because I don't go by that...have a good day Budman!
Thanks @Emilya that is helpful. Right now they are pretty dry after three days so I am going to keep watering them every other day. That means that the exhaust fan is going to need to run higher to keep the moisture ventilated but that's not a bad thing. I really appreciate your help with learning how to water these plants in soil.Whatever wet/dry schedule I had established by the end of stretch, I then shave a day off of it and push water from that point on one day earlier than I was at the end of veg. Lately I have been experimenting with every 4th watering, letting them go that extra day just to get more oxygen down to the lowest roots, and then I resume pushing water 3 more times. When I water, I water to runoff and then after an hour or so, I water to runoff again, making sure I saturate the soil fully. I really am not concerned with how much water that is, but on average with my 5g containers it is about a gallon per plant and that need will increase as the buds continue to develop.
I threw I a pic of droughting Gigi and next to her is Ammy Jr not droughting. Her soil always has that damp look as you see. I don't water to drown them and rot out the roots, I keep the moisture level very even and regulated throughout flowerThanks @Krissi1982 that is more than I've been watering for sure. They are available in 3gl and 5 gl. They have an extra area for I guess what "run off" would be the plant uses it as it needs to and it helps both the over and under water grower as it holds water for them to use but also drops it down so they don't get too much crowding their roots. The extra part is an attachment to the pot as I'll show youCan you explain 'reserve self water pots'? Looks like the same concept of the 5 gal. self wicking buckets. Easy to make.I threw I a pic of droughting Gigi and next to her is Ammy Jr not droughting. How would you make one lol I have so many but they are like 24 bucksLooks like the same concept of the 5 gal. self wicking buckets. Easy to make.
Someone on this site is currently growing with the self wicking buckets. Can't remember who. But you use a 5 gal. bucket, a piece of PVC, A round disk of some sort (my buddy made his out of closet shelving) to keep the plants above water level & something to use as a wick (he uses old T-Shirt material). There's tutorials of it on the Tube. How would you make one lol I have so many but they are like 24 bucks
Thanks @Xmas just a couple more weeks til harvestWow, your plants are looking really good. Some really nice gardening
What kind is sheThanks @7Dust2 they all smell fantastic but Jenny smells especially nice... like berries and spice. Really excited to see how big these buds get in the next couple of weeks
You seen the new strains for 2022 coming out. Alantic seed sent me a book of new strain . Wow. All I can say@7Dust2 Jenny is a Purple Haze. She's the mother for my third grow. I did a good write-up on her on the first post of my third journal. I'm hoping to get some more color in the last few weeks of the grow. We'll see. She smells so good though I don't really care

Springtime is nearly here. For Virginia that means it can be freezing or hot and humid on any given day. It makes it difficult to keep the basement a constant temperature. Last night the basement didn't cool below 71f/21c. Tonight it will get down to freezing outside. With all that, as long as the dehumidifier keeps working it won't be an issue for these girls. The VPD gets a little high but that's better than too humid at this point.
I took them out to give them some @Prescription Blend today and they were lighter than usual. I'm not sure if that's the reduced humidity or they're drinking more. Or both. Either way I'm giving them over a gallon every two days.
I'm well into the 6th week of flower (W6D3) and need to start planning for harvest. My plan is:
- Drought for up to 11 days or LWA=90%
- Water one last time until they perk up as much as possible
- Spike the trunks and leave them in the dark for 36 hours
- Harvest
To do this I need to plan the harvest about two weeks in advance. I'm not really sure how to do that. According to 420 these are the flowering times:
Hindu Kush - 7-8 weeks
White Widow - 8-9 weeks
Purple Haze - 9-10 weeks
So how do I know when to start the drought? @Krissi1982 do you have any guidance as to how to determine when to start the drought? @Bill284 what do you think about Betty based on the shots below? Anyone else?
Abby (Hindu Kush 7-8 weeks) is getting a few orange hairs but looks to still be building strong. I had to put a few more pieces of bamboo and some ties on her today to keep her outside buds from flopping everywhere. She's drinking the most (2.5L/day) and is really putting on some weight.
Betty (White Widow 8-9 weeks) looks to be the most done. Most of her hairs are orange and even look to be crinkling in. She is the smallest anyways, but it's way too soon for her to finish. I took some tric shots today and most of what I see is milky with just a little amber. Is she really that far along?
Jenny (Purple Haze 9-10 weeks) has a few orange hairs and a lot of fresh white pistils shooting out. She has a big woody stem and big buds to go with it. I think she still has plenty of building to do. She's really frosting up nicely and smells fantastic.
It's getting to that point in the grow where I can smell them as soon as I open the basement door. Soon they'll be stinking up the entire house... can't wait!
Happy Growing.
