LKABudMan Back In Deep Water: 4 Purple Haze Clones In RDWC

Thanks @Krissi1982 It's going to be crazy here this weekend with the normal holiday lake traffic along with the rennaisaince fair. We just got a big float to anchor out out on the lake, it'll be fun to ride all the waves from the boats this weekend :surf: Stay safe and have fun!
Sounds fabulous, thank you, you do the same!

Looking stellar ova here! And sorry about the mites. Did you get it under the control?

Thanks @Verbalist I was really lucky that I had the SNS 217-C on hand when I found the mites. I checked a couple of leaves today under the scope and couldn't find anything moving. I did see a few eggs. So they're under control for now, but I'm sure ready for this grow to get harvested ;)

Weekly Temperatures

Summer's here in Virginia. With temperatures up in the 90s, we had a great long holiday weekend. I got to spend some time out at the lake and had a nice cookout. Luckily with the A/C running the basement's staying fairly cool. I'd like to get my night temperatures a little lower, but that isn't going to happen during the summer. The exhaust fan is keeping the humidity in the low 50s/high 40s and the VPD around 1.4-1.6 as we come to the end of flower.

I think the @Sierra Natural Science 217-C has the spider mites under control. Since I found the mites, I've sprayed the plants four times about three days apart. When I spray, I try to drench the undersides of the leaves as much as possible, then give a good coating on top. I spray right before lights-out, and the exhaust fan kicks on high until the humidity goes back down. It all dries out before morning and lights-on.

I've taken a couple of the worse leaves off and I can't find anything moving on them. I'm watching the rest of the canopy for any signs and right now I don't see them spreading. I'll keep a close eye on them and I'll keep the spray bottle handy. And of course, after this grow the tent will be deep cleaned before the next grow. I'm using the SNS-209 on my other plants as a preventative. One thing I haven't been able to figure out.

@Sierra Natural Science , can I use SNS-209 in DWC/Hydro? It has instructions for using it as a drench, but does not say if it can be used in hydro. Any info?

The PPMs of the system have gotten pretty high so I've been adding water lately. These ladies have been in the RDWC system for 66 days. Since the original 44 gallon fill-up, I've added 85 gallons of nutrients and 24 gallons of water (about 2.5 times the original volume). The problem is that I have no idea what nutrients are making up the 1300ppm at this point. The only way to balance the system is to start from scratch. I really should've done it two weeks ago. I'll know better next time.

If it were a couple of weeks earlier, I'd go ahead and change the res. Midway through week 8, though, I'm not sure it's worth it. I put a little bit of Epsom salt in the water today to bump up the magnesium, as I know I have about 80-100ppm calcium carbonates in my water. Other than that, I'm going to just add water for another week and see what happens. They should be tailing off the feeding soon anyways.

I'm seeing a few issues with some of the leaves and starting to see some purpling already. I'm not sure if this is a res issue or from spraying the buds four times in the last two weeks, or both. Right now it's not too bad so I'm just going to ride with it. There's a lot of brown pistils in there and they may just be finishing up. They're in week 8 of flower now, so at most there are 2 or 3 weeks to go. It's been quite the journey to get here, and there were several times I wasn't sure they'd make it. While this may not be my best grow I've learned a lot. I'm already looking forward to the next time where I can fix all the mistakes I made with these girls. Until then, I'm going to keep the bugs at bay and try to ride this res into harvest.

Can you believe it's June already? The pool should reach 75f today so it's finally time for a dip. Hope you're staying cool wherever you are. Enjoy the rest of your week and stay safe everyone!

Looking good!! I got the Grove after seeing it in your journal, near gadget. My VPD thiugh is like .98 :( I can't keep my humidity low enough and the the temp is a tad low but hoping for better numbers ad the heat of the summer kicks in and the AC turns on more :)

I got keep my hands off them so mine can get that far . I'm weak
That's a problem when the jars are empty :( Luckily, I'm just breaking into the 9oz of Jenny that's finishing curing from the last grow ;) Your tent is filling up, though, so hopefully soon you'll be ahead.

Thanks @Timhomegrow I love my Govee dashboard. I keep the dehumidifier running in the basement set to 45%. That allows me to use the exhaust fan controller to get the tent RH anywhere down to about 48%.

Looking good! Summers here is right whew too hot for me. Have you given any thought to what strain you’re going for next? Something purple is on my list, maybe critical purple auto but I’m searching for winter already.
I have another journal in my signature where I'm growing my next mother: Barney's Farm Mimosa x Orange Punch. She smells like citrus and is supposed to get really colorful. I'll be taking clones in a week or so

I went into Charlottesville yesterday and stopped by a hydro/garden/homebrewing store, Fifth Season Gardening. It's a really cool store, they have a little bit of everything. I picked up a couple things I'd been needing, then when I went to pay noticed this sitting on the counter.

Well, that's exactly what I need for the last week or two of flower. Instead of spraying, I'll let out a dozen or so ladybugs every night at lights-out. According to the package, I can keep them in the fridge and they'll stay good for up to 30 days. There's over 300 in there so that should last me until harvest. I let some go last night and they immediately started patrolling up and down the leaves. It's really neat to watch. And although I have not seem any more signs of the spider mites, I know they're still there somewhere. I'm hoping thee ladybugs can keep them in check for one or two more weeks.

Just a couple of pics today, I need to get in there and check trics soon. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Thanks @Timhomegrow we get those asian beetles that look like ladybugs but bite. I'll take real ladybugs in the house any day, as would my wife ;)

Quick peek in the window this morning, they're still on patrol.

Weekly Temperatures

It's hard to believe they're in week 9 of flower already. I usually have another grow waiting to go into the tent so I'm trying to rush them out. I'm in no rush for this grow and it's a nice change. As long as I can keep it somewhat green and keep the spider mites in check, I'll keep letting them go.

The PPMs in the system got a bit high so I've been feeding with mostly water lately. I did put some Epsom in a couple of feedings ago when I notices a bit of leaf issue, and I put some Purpinator & Bud Candy in the last feeding. I'm trying to make sure they have what they need to finish bulking up as the PPMs in the system start ramping down toward harvest. My plan is to just add mostly water through the end of the grow and let them finish up what's in the res. I'll probably flush the system and fill with plain water a few days before harvest.

The leaf issues in the center of the tent don't appear to be getting any worse. I hope they're a result of spraying+lights, and since I'm done spraying it isn't getting any worse. I'm counting on the ladybugs to keep any mites in check until harvest. I'm still adding a dozen or two each night. I LOVE watching them patrolling the leaves and sleep better with them in there. I'm feeling confident I'll get to harvest with these ladies helping me. Then, I'll deep clean this tent before the next grow. Of course I'll try to relocate as many ladybugs as possible first :)

Speaking of harvest, I think they're getting close. There are still a few white pistils, but they are all foxtails so I'm not sure how reliable they are. I'm starting to see more purple in the tent now as they come closer to harvest and I expect to see a lot more as they finish up. I've noticed the smell go up a notch in the last couple of days, though I can't smell them as soon as I walk in the house yet ;) I see quite a bit of amber in the tric pics but also a lot of clear.

I'll be starting clones this weekend to go into this system, so these ladies have 2-3 more weeks if they need it. I don't see them going more than two weeks. Last night I raised the light about 2" to lower the PPFD slightly. I've also started adding ice to the nightly water in an attempt to get the res down into the lower 60s. I'm ready for these ladies to finish up and I'm going to try to let them know it ;)

I went to that store there was only three when I worked in Bridgewater or Bridgeport whatever that town is called

Loving the frosty ladies!!!

How much amber trichs are you shooting for? Certainly a bunch right now, just curious as I think I harvest too soon when seeing amber trichs
Thanks @Timhomegrow This is only my third harvest so I'm not sure how much amber I 'prefer'. I'm definitely hoping for more cloudy and less amber. However, here are several signs I look for before considering the trics:
  • They should start drinking and eating less. As long as they're still drinking and eating they're still putting on weight.
  • The smell should ramp up to 11. They're smelling stronger in the last week, but when they're ready I can smell them as soon as I go in the house. Last harvest, I could smell them walking up the front sidewalk ;)
  • The calyx should swell up and all white hairs should turn orange and crinkle in, almost like the calyx is trying to swallow the hairs. This is a bit more difficult to determine on this grow with most hairs already orange except for the foxtailing. The calyx, though, are not yet swollen.
  • As they swell up, the buds usually start sagging with the weight. I look for this sag as another sign they're putting on the weight I am looking for.
I like to look at the trics and consider them, but there are others reason trics can turn amber and it doesn't necessarily mean they're ready. I'm really waiting for the signs above to tell me I'm in the harvest window. Then, I can consider the trics. Finally, when I think they're ready I'll ask @Bill284 to take a look and he'll usually tell me to wait a week or two ;) He's always right too. Maybe this time I can wait until they're ready for a change :)

Wow, Budman! You've left me speechless over here. Those plants are just...just...

See what I mean? Speechless! :)

I had fallen several pages behind (as usual) and spent this morning catching up and gaping at the pics!

I was crushed when you found the mites. Those things can be such a PITA! I consider myself an authority on them because I've battled them so often.

At one point I grew so frustrated with them that I took a plant outside, laid it on it's side and blasted the undersides of the leaves with my water hose. Don't do that! I know that I probably knocked off a bunch of bugs and eggs, but the plant was never able to recover it's structure from the beating it took. :laughtwo:

I have so many mite-killing, homemade sprays and store-bought products that I had to find a shelf in my storage area for them only!

I have not been bothered lately thanks to early and often use of SNS 209 in the drench feeds. That stuff really works!

The 217 C is also some good stuff. And the ladybugs are great bugs. I'd love to see a video of you herding them at the end for "relocation."

I had some once but they ghosted on me. I later learned that I should have put a small saucer in the tent containing a moist sponge and some raisins to encourage them to stay and make themselves at home.

Awesome! That's the word I was looking for earlier.

BTW, if I had that combination of amber and cloudy you've got going, I would not hesitate to take those down any day I felt like doing it!

Great work, brother! :bravo:
