Light Addict Tries To Get Grafting - Target Of One Mom With 15 Strains!

Hey Jaga :)

Were absolutely dying to be honest! This is without doubt the worst type of ill we've been. So yep all big updates will be once I'm human!
Hey LA been there practically ALL LAST YEAR! :thedoubletake: Get yourself well! Positive energy is being sent your way :cheesygrinsmiley:
This is just a genius idea! Is this thread still alive? Seems I always show up late:(
Me too! LA is not feeling well, but this is a great journal to sub! So I'll say it for him, welcome!

Thanks LA! And hope you're feeling better man! I came across this thread and wasn't sure if I was reading the title correctly lol
My father used to be a master of grafting... if only he were still around, he'd love your idea :circle-of-love:
I'm super interested in this brother..keep it up!

Well here we go again!

Firstly I had to strip back the male stock some more as he's growing so vigorously :)

Anyway my first attempt took and my second failed, so here's hoping third times a charm :)

This time I used a Amherst Sour D from hso to attempt grafting with! All I do is select limbs of similar build and structure for ease of matching all up. Then making a tapering cut that is the exact opposite to the other side, I then force them together, giving a really firm squeeze at the graft point and then bind quickly and tightly. Then just spray inside of plastic bag and install over graft with a breath of co2 in for luck.
I've worked out the smaller the graft the better as then there's less to dehydrate and cause wilting etc.

Anyway just a cpl of pics!

Yep they wilt then I take most of the graft off and hope lol. I reckon this one failed but am going again later with a revised approach! ;)

Okay, good to know. Cuz my attempt today wilted too. I'm going to leave the humidity covering on just overnight and take it off tomorrow, just to see what happens. I have better luck with rooting seedlings without a humidity dome, maybe it will work the same for this.

Looking forward to your revised attempt!

OK so ,I went a little experimental :)

Firstly I wanted to see if the width of the stem had much to do with success, to my mind it does if only for alignment! Yet the other point I wanted to check was whether grafts could survive without a humidity bag over em!

Well firstly lol yeah humidity bags are simply a must! Length of cut does not change this fact! :)

So this time I used a tiny sliver of food wrap to first secure the graft, its easier to check alignment before binding with plumbers tape!

Anyway the whole bunch bar the original one this run, that's in a bag and did wilt so I topped it and the small part left has picked up! Just the same exact process I used and had success with on my first proper graft attempt! (So maybe a pattern? :) )

Anyway pic's

Okay, so you left the humidity bag on after you topped it? Just want to be sure on that part...

I did the same with the plastic wrap for the alignment, I like how that worked.....but it's looking like it failed without the humidity tent on it.

It's looking like you are getting this figured out. :circle-of-love:

Yeah I topped it whilst wilted in the bag as I'd left to much foliage on the graft. So topped it and left it sat in the humidity bag and it perked back up! So might be my second success we shall have to wait and see! :)
Yet so far its a good clean long cut and close matching of limb size. Then minimal foliage on the graft, with a humidity bag and me thinks its standing a good chance! :)

Thanks my friend. You know I'm following your lead. right? :-)
I finally found my plumbers tape, that's going to make this much easier. LOL

Watching closely!
