Thanks :high-five: Glad you stopped by. It will much more interesting in a month.

Still love that porta scrog idea! I really want to try it on this grow, but I don't have the time. There is still way too much to do in this basement to build them for one harvest. From here out, I'll be growing a sog sort of. Is it still a sog if I top all the plants so they have 4-6 colas instead of 1? They will still be tiny plants, but I will veg them a little more (a week?) than a traditional SOG to get those 4 branches started.

Yeah they're pretty cool little unit's, but they take a while to make.
Not ideal if your time is important.
I think topped shorty's would still be considered SOG.
auto's and hempies that aren't topped, not so much.
I agree, that sounds like a good idea you have.
Even smaller tomato cages would probably help you out a lot with them little un's.

hmmm that's a thought. I think your right. Tomato cages probably would help in the style of grow I'm planning. Even the lollipop style sog plants can have trouble staying upright when they get heavy. That's a problem I hope to have!

I'll see what I can find at the depot or Lowes next time we're 'in town'. I will want something somewhat narrow as I will be doubling the number of buckets next grow. I think a 4' tall cage would work well after it's pushed down into the buckets about 8-10". Has to be 12" wide or less.

Now I wonder how long it would take to build the little mesh panels that sit on top? hmmmmm... but I wouldn't want the screen that high up. Now I'm back to is it worthwhile for me to build these for a single grow? I sure wish it was, I love the concept.

I may still go get some cages. I planned to just use stakes, but the cages might be more stable.

Thanks Vick! I sure hope my ladies look as nice as yours. :Namaste:

Jistq a heads up. You want the res to be above 65 and not above 72. I HIGHLY suggest you run DM Zone by Dutch masters in your res to prevent any possible issues such as algea or root rot. Has saved my ass more then once.
And on a side note. I like some of those plants your growing. Hmmmmm wonder where a guy might find a good clone a those hmmmm

Thanks AK1. I'll look into DM Zone. In the old days, I used H2O2 and/or bleach to keep things clean. I started this grow with the H2O2, but I've switched to a beneficial tea. Heard of Heisenberg's tea? I can PM a link if you wanna read about it (it's on another forum). What does DM Zone do? I'll read about it.

I hear there's a guy in WA growing these strains :yummy:

We're officially flowering! :slide:

They've been on GLR for several weeks, so I anticipate a quick transition to flowering. I count from the day the light schedule changes, so when the light come on this evening, it will be their "day 1". Normally, their GLR extra hour would be starting in about 30 minutes, but I changed the timers last night. Tonight I will spend a little time ensuring the flowering room is light tight. I have some green light bulbs so I can still work down there if need be.

Friday night I took clones of all, but the 2 runts. I don't think I want to make a mother out of either of them. I know the smoke report should be the biggest factor in selecting the mothers, but vigor and hardiness are also important. Do I really want to keep strains that are so sensitive?

I also did another round of defoliation. That's twice in about 6 days! They recovered quickly. I took the clones and defoled on Friday night. I had planned to wait 5-7 days to flip, but they looked completely recovered already last night, so I changed the timers.

This is about 48 hours after the defol and cloning. They are pretty much recovered!

I'm really pleased with how these plants look. I've been concerned that there appeared to be some yellowing, but I think it's the lights. I know my AAW reflectors have severe hotspots at the edges. I'm considering a light mover for my next grow to help even it out. Now that I've seen the clones under different light, they look soooo beautiful! When I was changing the timers, I had to turn off the HPS lights. While they were off I could see the plants under 'normal' lighting and they don't look yellow at all. I'm going to start bringing some up into the house to photograph under better lighting. I just have to wait until we get some blinds on the big front window so nobody sees me carrying a plant out of the basement! :)

I've been assuming 10 weeks until I'm finished flowering. Hopefully some strains will finish sooner, but I'm sure a couple will run longer. The timing should work out well. Believe it or not, my birthday is 4/20, so I should end up having a VERY happy birthday! :partyboy:

Their current res is still a 'veg' recipe. I'm not sure if I'll flush it again this week, or just top off with an early bloom recipe. This reservoir is only about a week old, so I'll probably do an add back tonight or tomorrow and then change the res this weekend.

Thanks to everyone for following along with me. I'm pretty excited to have reached this milestone! I'm a little bit later than I had hoped, but I let the plants dictate the schedules down there. The plants are really responding well to the heavy training and defoliation. The amount of branching is pretty crazy, and the nodes are so tight! I anticipate one more defol towards the end of the stretch and lots more bending to make the plants wider. I think this room will be pretty full, even after I remove the males. So far, I think I have 3 confirmed males, and 4 or 5 unknown. Most of the other 'regular' plants have shown they are female. I thought the seedling stage was fun, I know it's about to get a lot more interesting! :morenutes:

I'll try to post some pics of the babies and the new nursery area tomorrow. I'm considering posting some video, but I'm not sure how to do it safely yet. I know how to strip out the EXIF data from the photos, but I don't know if there is an equivalent in the videos, and if so, how to remove that data. I want to share some of my thoughts on the different strains at the end of veg, and video seems to work better for displaying how a strain is growing. Anyone ever upload a video? Do I have to use Youtube? I'd like the most anonymous way possible to post a vid, so what should I watch out for?

Looking epic in here! Can't wait to see them frosted up man.

And I wouldn't go adding flower nutes to the veg Res. Just let em chill and change the Res when u normally would just refill with ya bloom mix.
Reps if it'll let me

Thanks CS :)

I already decided to wait on the res change. I'll just do a bloom flavored addback during the week. I've been letting the res go a couple weeks between changes. That would mean this res can go until this weekend.

I will try take some root pics tonight. I think they are OK, but I want to get a second opinion. My buddy thinks they look better than he's seen, but he doesn't see all the amazing roots on here! They have a yellowish tint to them, but I suspect that's from my nutes. I've been told the bennie tea will stain them. I guess I'm having trouble trusting that the tea is working. I might do a sterilization/flush when I change the res this weekend. I was planning to flush with just water, but maybe I'll do a H2O2 and/or bleach rinse. I always ran a sterile res in the past. I started out that way on this grow, but the good H2O2 is a little spendy at the volumes I was using it! I thought the tea might provide a benefit as well as keep the pyth at bay. Anyway... look for some root pics tomorrow if I can get my wife to help me take the pics. Kinda hard to hold up the bucket with one hand and take a picture with the other. I just think the roots should look "fuller" given that the plants have been in the buckets for awhile. I'll also look up the exact data I put them into the buckets.

Hello Hiker those are some beauties you have there. Is your system the MONSTER? 5gal or the regular 2.5gal? They look big wondering because Ive tried the 2.5 gal and kept going back and forth if I liked it or not. Some how its alot of work at the same time its not?
But I see you built you whole room nice work!
my opion would be to use cages, and add them soon or they will be hard to get around the plant. The downside with the screen over this system is if you need to add more hydroton and or pull the plants up at all. if that statement makes sense?

Ya it makes sense :)
This is a normal Ebb & Gro, not the monster system.
I am going to try and get some cages next weekend when I head into town. Hopefully it will fit over them OK.

Thanks for checking out my journal. I appreciate the advice.

looking real nice :bravo:

Thank you :Namaste:

I think I have root problems. :helpsmilie:

I couldn't get pictures tonight. My wife was in bed by the time I got a chance to go work in the basement. I did lift up a plant and check them out. They don't feel slimy, but I think they are a little mushy. Not all of the plants. Some seem worse than others. The reservoir smells 'earthy', but that's normal since I add a beneficial tea. The reservoir has never gotten above 70F. It was always around 54F until just a week or two ago. Now it's pretty stable at 63-65F. This is the first time I've tried the tea. I'm going to try and get down to the hydro store one night this week, but it might have to wait until the weekend. I have 35% H2O2 and bleach on hand. I always grew 'sterile'. I'm regretting trying something different. I might pick up some of that DM Zone at the hydro store. It sounds like it's a bleach based cleaner. I think I'm going to be flushing the reservoir a bit early after all. What about Hygrozyme instead of or in addition to the Zone?

I'm a little disheartened right now.

Flowering has been halted. They only missed one GLR 'extra hour', so hopefully there won't be much affect on growth.

I'm not happy about the condition of my roots, so I'm leaving them in veg until I resolve the issue. I need a large healthy root mass before I try and flower. These plants are gonna be pretty big, and I don't think the roots can support it right now.

I did a little reading, and my tea may not be up to par. The Mykos I'm using is not a very diverse innoculant, so I'm going to see what else my hydro store has. It's hard for me to get there during the week though (2 hours away), so it might have to wait until the weekend. :(

Anyway, just posting a quick update. The bud porn will have to wait another week to get started. ;)

Thanks CS. I hope so too. I feel a little helpless.

Any suggestions? I don't think it's pyth as my res is cool and well aerated, but I do see some floaty stuff moving around the system. Nothing feels real 'slimy' though. Maybe cyanobacteria? The tea recipe I've been using came from the other forum I used to post on, so I went and asked some questions there. I like the concept of the tea, and want it to work, but I really don't want to have to ditch these plants. That will set me back 2 months, and I'd be losing a lot of wasted $$.

Can't blame ya there. I'm sure u can avoid killing them. Good news.is they look uber healthy
Can u get any pics of the stuff in the water and the roots?

Worse case u can go back to the sterile Res that use to work for you so well. That'd be last resort shy of killing em tho were it me. Get ahold of the hydro pros when u get some pics and surely one will have a solution.

Maybe its good stuff floating? Haha. Probably not.

Wish I had some real answers for ya buddy but shooting in the dark tends.to cause unnecessary panic. Do the roots or water stink abnormally?

I'll try to get some root pics tonight. I tried last night, but I can't get a good picture trying to hold up the bucket with one hand and shoot a cell phone pic with the other. They were all out of focus and poorly framed (as in roots barely in the picture).

Ya I can't imagine the floaty stuff is good :p

I asked for advice in a couple other threads. Hopefully I'll get some good ideas. I'm going to try real hard to get to the hydro shop after work today or tomorrow. Right now, I'm leaning towards going back to a sterile res.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Hiker, Still looking great, not sure on your hydro Q's as I dont do hydro, but when they back in flower will be good to see how fast they switch from the GLR to some frosted beasts! Just put mine on GLR to get the same effect. Hope you get that root mass sorted, :goodjob:
