LA's Sideline Grow -GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST -Self Build Budmaster in Cupboard!

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

Hey LA. This sounds so dang interesting. My Fast and Vast girl is two weeks into flower. 13/11. Would she benefit from your 21/36 lights on period? I have been in an email conversation with the guys at Heavyweight Seed Co and they love what my girl is doing. All they would tell me about their grows is that they use HPS lights. So mine with LED is interesting to them. I asked for some "new" seeds to test grow for them. No answer yet.

Congrats on the beans. I have heard a lot about Trainwreck.

Frosty Holidays my friend!

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

Hi LA, congratulations on your new germplasm! Just wanted to share my limited experience from struggling in grows past with finding the appropriate light cycle for my hybrid mutt auto strain. I am still very new to so many of the methods that up until a month ago I had never even heard of so forgive me and disregard if this may not be applicable to what you are doing. 16 years ago when I got my original seeds from a friend in Germany that included Ruderalis Skunk, I had no idea what 'auto' was, had never heard of it or how to grow it. The biggest struggle I had was figuring out the appropriate light cycle and still to this day I don't have it dialed in completely. Initially, before I was able to research (and this was back in the day when the first emails were being sent on AOL and I don't think Google even existed yet) I implemented a photo strategy and got really tiny plants that matured relatively quickly. Out of desperation and running out of seed after two or three grows, and from my research, I upped the light cycle to 24 on which worked great, but then those grows yielded whispy thin buds - but I was able to get new seeds and keep growing it forward. Subsequently, over the next few grows I threw just about everything at it light schedule wise trying to figure it out including 36/18, 24/12, etc. That's when I noticed the strains' positive response to darkness during early and mid flowering stages. I'm still trying to dial this in and am eagerly watching your efforts w/ great interest. I hope this was worth your time to read and that it may be useful info. If not, I apologize and you can wad it up and start your fire with it in the morning lol All the best to you sir. Thank you for sharing your efforts with the universe. Cheers
Great share Colorful. You have to remember that plants love the nightlife like club dwellers. They basically sleep all day/lights on, re-charging their batteries and party/grow & what not, all night/lights off. They're real party animals...

If we all share openly we can all benefit :)
Lots of my friends think I'm mad giving my little tricks away????? To me its just nice to be nice and help your fellow humanbeans! :)
That's what it's all about here. We help & grow each others plants together.

Hey Colorfuldayze many thanks for the input and the kind words! :)
Your thoughts have me pondering using a big dark period in the mix so many thanks for that :)
As for sharing :) this is just what 420 is about. I've never been on another forum, so I can't really speak, but I've heard off plenty that other sites people gloat and revel in doing what others can't. This just seems ridiculous to me!!! If we all share openly we can all benefit :)

It's people like you LA that make this site the way it is. Always kind and helpful. I have a fair deal of anxiety and it took me a while to feel comfortable talking to folks with lots of knowledge. Getting a point across without being offensive or rude is a skill just like anything else. You got it in spades buddy!

Sharing knowledge is contagious - just like smiling. :Namaste::peace:

Happy Wednesday.

Well I'm still waiting on my BM new kit so still can't reveal that one yet doh!!! (It really shouldn't be to long now!)
The one bit of good news is my Alien XL 4 pot RDWC system is being shipped tomorrow! :)
Not sure when ill actually set it up and run it yet as got to much going on at present! :)

You will all be the first to know when I go big again I promise :)

OK question time!!
Is they're anything I particularly need for a successful RDWC run? Do I need anything special for root care etc?
All info on useful extras would be most welcome :)

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

Hi LA,

Proper PH is necessary in an RDWC. A good PH pen was my first purchase when I did my RDWC. That was my first grow and I learned the hard way trying to treat deficiencies caused by my PH drift. The other tip I can give is to start really low with the nutrients (300ppm) and work your way up. A good PPM meter is handy for that.

I hope that's the type of stuff your looking for LA. :peace:

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

LOL,

I should have known you meant advanced question. Now I have to go read up on running a live environment with hydrotopps microbes! Whatever that is lol. I'm going back to the kiddies table now.

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

RDWC? I'd be sure to keep rez temps low. I had my DWC bucket in a tug and filled that with water. Then I kept freezing gallon jugs of water and put two jugs into the water twice a day to keep rez temps in the 60s. I also put white foam plates on the tops of the buckets with a hole cut out for the plant. A slit from center hole to edge of plate allows you to put plate around plant when putting plate on. I figured this out half way through an auto Red Poison grow. First grow. Got over an oz dry. Used kitchen spray to spray off root slime from high rez temps. Good luck LA with the RDWC. How about making them Recycling Hempy? That's how I grow tomatoes.

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

I'm just a noob, but I read about better results in not-going biological hydro, keeping things clean and only adding enzimes that deteriorate salt/sugar accumulations in the root area.
I chose using Cannazyme (enzimes) over Aquashield because Botanicare isn't available at my country, and can't order it from USA. Aquashield aren't enzimes, but they prevent microbial growth, in a similar way to Hidrogen Peroxide, without toxicity. Both are great preventions for root rot/pythium.

Hydro grows with the right res temperature (drop those iced bottles), light isolation, water-recirculation (though job if you hand-make your system), and an agent that reduces salt accumulation and/or microbial growth, are destined to have great results.

This is my theory mind speaking, as I've been struggling with each of these problems as they come up on my first grow. Practice always comes in more handy, but study comes first.

Good luck and I'll be happy to follow your incoming grow, as usual.

Kudos

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

By the way, any ideas on how to make those frozen water bottles sink? Taping the bottle to the bottom ain't gonna work, as the glue will come off. You don't want cold water bottles touching the root area, as too low temperatures might burn on contact.

Filling it with rocks and water before freezing? Tying it to a submergible water pump (seems unlikely as they might just fuck-up due to constant force pulling)

This has been grinding my gears. :smokin2:

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

Ok I may be talking out my ass here lol. :) I'm sure I read somewhere that if you used salted water to freeze that the density of the ice is improved? ???? If so it might aid in the buoyancy? ?
If not one of them pop bottle carriers? A bottle stood in each corner and stones in the central points??
Best I can do off the top of my head lol.

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

The density of the ice is not "improved" or increased as such :)
What happens is: First of all, the salt water will freeze at a lower temperature than fresh water, Once it does begin to freeze, salt is excluded from the ice crystal in a process called "brine rejection", causing the ice to be less dense than the surrounding saltwater which in turn becomes saltier and thus denser. If frozen at a low enough temperature, the salt will actually come out of solution. The sum of densities probably remain much the same though.

A saturated solution of salt water is however denser than fresh water so the "salt water bottle theory of negative buoyancy" may yet prove valid :)

Vis vobiscum.

Re: LA's Sideline Grow - GDP X Pheno Hunt -Extreme LST- Self Build Budmaster in Cupbo

Hi LA,

I need some help if you have the time. Do you know if anyone using a Budmaster here is from the US? I need some help getting mine set up. I didn't realize the light would be set up for 220v. I have no way to use it and when I tried to call Budmaster I got a message saying the number had been disconnected. Dialing the UK can be difficult but it wasn't the standard no circuit available message. They haven't answered my email either.

Basically I just need to know if there is something I'm overlooking and how to get it set up without having to hire an electrician. I can get an up converter 110v to 220v but I don't even know how to order uk extension cord lol.

I'm super disappointed. I should have been more careful in my research and questions.

Any help is very much appreciated. :thanks:
