LaquerHead's LOS: Gold Rush, Strawberry Glue & More!

Good sign that they are looking further out for food.

Sand makes watering a breeze. Nice and even penetration. I think it killed some of my clover, I suspect the sand made it harder for oxygen to get into the top inch of soil, where the clover liked to root wander. But I would rather no gnats than clover.

I had used mosquito dunks before, very effective, the only reason I think I have the gnats again is that I wasn’t able to consolidate all my soil in the house into the bins to treat. I had 3 bins of soil, wife had a bag of miracle grow potting mix laying around, and a few empty pots with dry soil in them. I had taken the dunks and grated them into a powder and treated the main bins, eradicated them for months.

Mosquito dunks are nice! I've used them in the past, and had decent results. Does diatomaceous earth work?

Edit: mulching becomes a real pain if theres to much stuff on top...so theres also that. Biggest downside to this style of growing FOR SURE

I also use DE. Bugs don’t like it. It’s like broken glass and sandpaper on their exoskeletons. Best used against the adults. While they are trying to get in and out of the soil. The H2O2 kills the larvae in the soil. So I watered a few times with that solution.

After I put my sand down, I put a dusting of DE on the top, using a dollar store metal sieve. Any adults that try to go through that will have a bad time.

My neighbor must have ants. Because they were coming through my basement walls to get at some recycling cans. Well not on my watch. Put the recycling outside in the frozen snow, and dusted the entire length of our shared basement wall. No more ants.

What ratio?
Well that will depend on the % solution of H2O2 you purchase. Most in grocer stores is 3% /vol. The stuff I got from the grow store was 29% technical grade. I mixed the technical grade at 9 parts water to 1 part H2O2.

So you would have to mix it based on the concentration that you purchase. I think there are recipes on here somewhere

Edit: 1 tablespoon of the 3% solution to 8 ounces of water Is what they use for a variety of things. That’s what I would spray the top few inches of soil with.

Urban, did you have to do much to get the micro life going again? The H202 will pretty much wipe everything out, yes?

I think it might do some damage. My bins are deep and the treatment only went down so far. So I think I didn’t have much of an issue. I also brewed an ACT using boogie brew and a few other things to help reboot it.

Thanks!

Boogie brew? :D
Boogie brew is a pre packaged ACT mix. Came in two parts. Basically has what we make our normal ACTs and a few other things added. Mine is super old an may not be very effective. My ACT looks 10 times better when I use just kelp, bat guano, humus, and labs.

Chocolope - Day 24 of Flower

Got some pictures at lights out tonight. These are about as close as im able to get at lights out with a smartphone. Shaky as all get out, may have smoked too much 24k gold :blunt: They show a much better picture of the leaves fading up top...is that normal on day 24 of flower??? I feel it shouldnt even happen all the time, let alone on only day 24 (32 with hairs)!

Pictures also show how sloppy the bottom half looks  I tried leaving a good majority of leaves and only took dainty shoots. Gonna have to trim her up before next POTM :cheesygrinsmiley: thats if the buggies dont do it for me!

Looking fantastic there LH. Those are getting big and chunky!

Boogie brew is bad ass. Its what I base my aact on.
I bought the wife that stuff years ago and wow. I try and use most the ingredients every time I brew. Realy helps keep tje critters down as well.

Yeah if I didn't have so many amendments to make my own ACTS, literally have bags and buckets, I would be rocking boogie brew. It was one of the first things I bought because I also got volcanic rock dust and powdered Humic Acid from them (kootenay bio soil). Tagged them in a photo recently, and showed my bags, and I got a pm from the guy asking me where I got those old packages lol.

These are mites for sure, but if they don’t chew on the leaves, then they’re not pests and might be predatory. As far as gnats I’m just treating my soil post harvest. I dried it, sprinkled some cinnamon on it and today I blasted some hydrogen peroxide. Couldn’t believe how effective it was to kill the larvae, they died in like 3 minutes!
