Kush DWC grow

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

man those are looking good. how far into flowering are you? im approaching my 3rd week of flowering and dont see any trics yet. lots of hair tho.

37 days or 5 weeks and 2 days or 888 hours or 53,280 minutes or 3,196,800 seconds or 3.1968 x 10^15 nanoseconds. If you want data any more precise than that I'll have to fire up the Cray. LOL Mmmm... fun with calculators.

Now's the time to give them any bud boosters you have laying around.

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

LabRat those are some delicious closeups my friend. Talkin bout bud porn thats it right there. Some serious trich action happening in there. I imagine a tiny bug trying to make its way across one of those stems...good luck with that lol.

Great update, keep em coming.

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Looking great their LabRat - if this site doesn't chase the blues away, then those plants sure will! You should show her in her full glory...

<snip pic>

or maybe you're on dial up, and you're cussing me right now while you're waiting for this to download! hehe...

This is a great place to hang out, and we're fortunate to have the big influx of DWC refugees - or Deep Water Culture - I need to keep using that term to annoy whatever trolls are still out there...

Anyway man, just glad to have you and other likeminded souls to hang with - sure does help with my blues. :thanks:

Yep. Dial-up A**hole!!!!!

I forget to get the big one when I get the location for my pix. It doesn't make any difference when you do it as my pic is already on 420s server and comes from there. I just start the upload then in another tab start my journal entry. By the time I've typed the bulk of my post the pix are here. Upload speed with a modem is 33.6Kb/s or 4.2KB/s. Big whoop eh!

:thanks: as well. Hanging out with you and all these other peeps has me in a way better space than I was last year this time. I was growing then too but didn't give a flying f**k. I'm amazed those girls paid off as well as they did. Probably why the thrips wiped me out 'cause I wasn't paying the girls no mind. Oh well, it's all good now! I'm having a great time. Poor but happy. Like FreeWheelin' Franklin said, "Pot will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no pot."

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Hey LabRat, about your nute add-backs...how do you know how much of each to give? Sounds like your giving equal amounts of each but how do you know the plants are taking up equal amounts of each? By going by TDS only you could add back enough of only one nute to get TDS up to where it should be but then your nute balance is no longer right. The ratios become imbalanced because of uneven uptake. Then you got your evaporation and the build up of minerals and such from that. Are you using RO water? Just throwing this out there because I want to be as lazy as possible too on my grows but I want maximum yield. I guess it all depends on how long you run the reservoir before it gets too out of balance. Like a fish tank I guess. Well I have rambled far too long. Let me know what you think brother.

L8ER

RO water, wild guesses and witchcraft. I'm taking educated guesses mixed with years of growing and reading my plants.

It's true that TDS only tells you how much you got but not how much of what you got. My first hydroponic nutes came in 7 or 8 bags of raw chemicals. One bag was all the trace elements. The rest were marked MgSO4, CaSO4 etc. I was given a tomato recipe sheet, seedlings, veg and fruit mixtures on crappy zerox. The dude told me to "experiment". I want those nutes again! Then I could give the girls the precise thing they need when they need it. And custom blend for different strains. I've got all the equipment and the knowledge and know how to find out what I need to get 'er done. For small batches I could use lab grade chems but for regular use I would need a source of the raw stuff like Big Mike gets for AN nutes. I'm not saying that I could make a product as good as AN but I could tailor the plants requirements any way I wanted. I would probably use some stuff for bud boosting but not much else.

Growing one strain start to finish I'm pretty sure I could feed the second run so they don't have too much of what they don't need and enough of what they do. This stuff doesn't take much chemical training, you just have to be very good with weights and measures.

Understanding the growth cycle of cannabis is the key. I have a better than fair grasp but need to take that to the next level or 2. I wonder if there is long distance training in cannabis botany? I don't want any general botany. I had that in grade 8. lol

I'm freakin' tired of driving truck when I do have work and see this whole MMJ scene as a possible career move. I don't plan on humpin' bales of Pro-Mix either. I want to get the hell out of the great white north and head back to the wet coast. Gimme rain any day! And Salmon and Big Honkin' Steelhead on the fly! Mountains too! Big Honkin' Mountains!! And the Pacific Ocean with Big Honkin' Waves!!! Full of Big Honkin' Salmon and sharks and rays and Really Big Honkin' Halibut!!! Did I mention I came from the coast and have been in this god forsaken place for nine f'n years. Moved up here for the spousal unit. Long, convoluted story, lets not go there.

I hope that helps. :peace:

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

WooHoo! It works with the 200mm too! :cheer: :bong:

I'm gonna be playing with this for sure. I put the digi cam on a tripod and hold the big lens with one hand and the bud with the other and push the button with another extremity. lol. I'd like to rig something to hold the lens so I can hold the bud. Duct tape! That's the ticket. But here's a teaser for now. More coming.

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Hi LabRat :grinjoint:

I hope that you do get out of snow hell and back to the west coast. I think maybe you would be great as mmj provider, if there is such a thing in Canada.
At any rate you would be much happier. Have to think about that a bit more, because you seem pretty happy now. :cheer: You are one funny dude already.:clap: You might overload on the coast. :ganjamon:

Thanks for the camera experiment, reminded I got a bag of old high quality Nikon lenses. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

I tried the 55mm first and my 28mm wouldn't work unless you jammed the bud in the lens. The 200 is a lot trickier than the 55. I wanna play with the zoom and get in real close. That last one the zoom was at the lowest. Wide open f-stop with the focus in tight and the digi cam in macro mode. I didn't try any other settings yet, but I will.

See ya later OMM. :peace:

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Man those buds are looking tasty :adore:

Your plants are looking great as ever, say how long have you been going without the res change on the unchanged one now ?
I'm startin to wonder if you could grow start to finish without ever changing the water in there.

And a happy grow year to you :goodjob:

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

High Stakkur! I hope you're cremating the poor little guy. A little bit at a time. lol

50 days now and the plan is to finish without a change. What time is it in Iceland now it's 5:15 am here and I gotta go to bed but I'm having too much fun. I wish I had some rum tho the Kali is doing a good number on my head.

Call me back with the time. C'ya :peace:

Rigth now its 1:30 pm here and the little guy is getting his funeral later today. Going to use the chance to fix a few things with my case while waiting to get some clones.

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Hey Labrat,

Just poppin in to bother you a bit :surf:.

Hey I have 21 gallon tubs but I was thinking especially for early on with the ladies drinking less and the frequent nute changes, Would putting a bunch of plastic bottles full of water in the tub harm anything? (was thinking small ones so they can be moved out of way easily)

So I really only use like 10 gallon's of nutes for like the veg period before they get mondo hungry and drinking alot so the more frequent changes don't hurt my nute supply so bad. Who knows, may never use more cuz no way am I smart enough to guess which nutes to add so when it needs changed I just plan on changing it.

What you think? :roorrip:

Peace

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Labrat,
Your grow is looking awesome bro! I love pictures of the flowers on the girls. It sure looks like your getting near harvest time!!!

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Thanks for the details LabRat, there is no substitute for experience. One thing I have learned in life...books are great but real life will shove that book up yer @ss every chance it gets. LOL.

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

Hey Labrat,
I want those seeds..............argggggggg hehehe. Put those seeds and that big room of yours to work :grinjoint: "wink"

The seeds are all pretty much mutts and you gotta look close to pick out a good mum. Good news so far, they all sank so there must be something in there. It'll be nice to get the Kali going again. That stuff's the shit! Nothing wrong with the Kush, it just rings different bells.
No "winks" required. LOL

Re: LabRat's latest Kush DWC grow.

I won't say I read alot of it, but I sure enjoyed all of the pics. AWESOME PIC!

About 3 or 4 weeks to go?

Thanks Roseman!

First chop is scheduled for 25/01/10. Around there anyhow. Care to cut the cord? Cropping in stages. Then I think I'll regen the 4-hole tub to get a couple of fresh clones if my choices worked out in the taste test. I fired up ol' Sparky for a bit but the temps went through the roof. 80-93F in a half hour. Pix to be posted in my journal. Buddy gave me a huge 1000W MH bulb and it works OK if you want to light up a football field. LOL

I have some new beans soaking to fill in. I gotta get the KaliMist going again. Plus a few NL x unknown commercial clone that I moved up here from a Vancouver gro-op in 2001.

It's always

at my house.

I think that's a pretty good idea and I can't see it hurting your girls in any way unless they're beating on the roots. I don't think it's going to do much tho. If you start the whole tub off with light nutes for the younguns you can just add fresh nutes as you go along and avoid nute changes for as long as you dare. Take a tub like that, plant your babies in there and monitor the ppm to see how much food they need. If you start at 500ppm with say 6 6" clones in a tub that size, chances are they won't even drop the ppm much the first 2 weeks. Two weeks! My god the plants will die. Now that we've dispensed with that bit of drama let's look at what's happening.

Very small but vigorous plants have dropped the 500ppm nutes to 300 in two weeks and now they're looking like real plants. A: dump out 60% unused nutes and start with fresh or pump them up to 750 to continue veg or pump them up the same leaning more toward bloom nutes to encourage flower. B: Keep the plants at 500 ppm for the two weeks then boost it higher for veg or bloom. Either way it doesn't make much sense to me to dump good nutes. I prefer to keep the cash in my pocket.

If you're going for the gold then after that period of vegging your plants to the point you want to go 12/12 by all means fill 'em up with supreme and let them go. Too many people follow the mantra of once a week. A good rule of thumb for top yields, IMHO, is change your nutes once you've replaced as much water as you rez holds. That doesn't mean fill the rez and give it nothing but water until that point is met. It means keep topping up with water and nutes as you go along until you meet that point then flush and start with fresh nutes at the ppm you were at when you flushed, or higher if your girls are still rockin'. It's a huge bunch of variables to work with to come even close to a good regimen for optimum feeding. Paying attention to your plants is a major part of any successful grow. In fact it's the key. Another rule of thumb is to make sure they are getting what they want when they need it. Like our women, the other ladies in our lives are fickle and need to be observed and preened to get the best out of them. Too much attention and they will not make you happy.

I haven't changed one of my two tubs since I started. 50 days and I'm still feeling the love!

Drop by my grow for the last few pages at least and see the one nute change I did make and watch my girls live or die. I probably won't let the one tub die but will let it get ugly to see if a start to finish no-nute-change DWC will work. So far, so good. Who knows tho, I could walk downstairs right now and find a tub of undead zombie vampire lezbians! OOOOH . . .Scary! Like the dogs, they probably just want water. But they might curl up their lips at me. Oooh . . . not so scary.

I babbled enough and better try to head to bed. This is the time I'd be getting up for work if I had a job! :peace:
