Some of those group pics look like giant buds floating in mid air, had to keep rubbing my eyes and making the picture bigger to see the stems. Garden looks phenomenal, gonna be a hell of a crop.
The spacing and length on the stems was already excessive before stretch and just got wild during it. It made it difficult to decide where to prune at. I left 3 nodes per cola as a guideline and it measured out to a foot minimum for each cola just with 3. Foot long colas with buds 3-4 inches wide from bagseed under the LED in a 3 gallon impressed me.
Super cropping the main stem on 2 of the plants also made the spacing strange and makes everything look real floaty. It’s given me a lot of wasted space, but the buds are speaking for themselves.
I haven’t grown without topping before and it has been a wild ride. The plants, the leaves, the stems, and the buds are all way bigger and healthier than I’ve ever seen come out of a 3 gallon pot, especially being completely organic with no liquid or chelated nutrients.
I’m conflicted now though. Not topping my plants made this a really easy grow with great results, healthy plants, and almost no issues (the only issues I had were ones I created on purpose). Whereas when I top them, it takes extra resources, extra effort, the plants aren’t as predictable, and they tend to be more sensitive. However when I do top, I can fill the whole space, access all of the buds with ease, and everything looks much nicer and organized and is much easier to harvest.
It’ll likely take me at least 2-3 more seed grows and 5-10 clone grows before I can really decide which I prefer. However I strongly suspect in the end, my yields won’t have much difference so it’ll come down to quality and QOL of the grow.
I do know though, if I grow outdoors I won’t be topping any more. If I keep up on the pruning like I did with these, then they’ll produce very well outside with fewer issues.
All in all this journal has been just as informative as my first one, just for very different reasons. Im looking forward to harvest, the weight of these branches is pretty decent.
