Junior Grower First Time

Growing in soil is actually pretty difficult, especially if someone doesn’t already have gardening experience.

If you get frustrated with soil, I would encourage you to check out passive hydroponics with an inert medium, like perlite.

Hempy Headquarters

Yup, if the 2 sprout die as well, I will try different medium.

Plants like what we like. If we think it's too hot or humid for us, it's the same for them. If it's within your ability to make the environment ideal, do so, but don't worry if you can't. As to breeze/wind, for seedlings, you don't want them getting direct fan wind for about 2-3 weeks unless your humidity is above 70%. Turn off the oscillating function and aim the fan at the wall like 30-50 CM away from the plant. The wind will bounce off the wall and create gentle pulses of moving air across the young seedling. You'll know when you got that right based upon how much movement the seedlings do. You want them to be slightly wiggling. If you accidentally over water and need to blow the fan at the dirt, put up a deflector to cut the air and protect the plant, but otherwise just aim the fan near the seedling, but not on it.

Got it, thanks for explaining.

GW, is hydroponic nutrients available there? I for one will be a lot more helpful to you if yes as that's sort of my specialty. If you are to track down nutrient salts, even better, but if not, you'll probably be stuck growing in soil. The drawback with all soils is that growth takes longer and mistakes take longer to manifest, so you could make a mistake and not notice the damage till more than a week later, which then leaves you trying to think of which one thing you did was the mistake? Also, I think new growers should start with hydro because new growers are usually the most impatient. Hydro would be more suitable to that lack of patience and would teach the hard lessons faster and make them easier to resolve.

I could go on and on and on about why I think new growers should start with hydro, but if that's not an option for you, don't worry about it. Most hydro skills and growing knowledge is transferable to soil. Though if you are stuck in soil, it would be better if you can attract some organic growers here as they can tell you how to better amend your soil, especially for your next transplant. Like for instance to add X cups of bat poop, X cups of worm poop etc.

Day 15, still looks bad, curl down, very yellow light green, light brown color start to appear on its tip.

Day 4, both white widow auto looks good. One of them drooping, i know it's too much water. Maybe mix more perlite into the soil on next transplant.

that's a good plan to add more perlite, maybe 10-20% more. If you add too much perlite, you'll back yourself into a corner and begin to need liquid nutrients.

Not sure man, this is the brand i can find in hk:
Advanced Nutrients, Biobizz, General Hydroponic, Growth Technology, Blue Planet Nutrients. Are these suitable for hydroponic?

Add poop? I don't know whether i can find and buy poop in this City... It's kinda weird to tell people you want to buy poop. But what if i use nutrients product? Any of them organic?

I just go check the soil bag, it is mixed by various things. One of the is perlite and coco coir. Other than that I got no idea, gonna check later.

Hey Grower! :high-five:

I’m feeling your pain! I’ve been there. Here’s the deal, if your soil has a lot of fine-grained material in it, it’s going to be water-retentive, period. Adding perlite would be like adding raisins to porridge. It just isn’t going to increase your drainage appreciably.

It’s best to use a medium that will not stay water-logged for days at a time. Basically, your roots are drowning due to lack of oxygen.

From the names you mentioned, you got it all! Adding poop is basically what organic growers do, and since you're in soil ... I assumed you had better access to organic farm/agricultural type products. Also, I assumed you mentioned HK as a general geographic reference, and not a literal. Some places this is legal, some places illegal and other places super illegal.

by my estimation, seedlings need the most access to O2 and as such need the best drainage with only minimal water retention. As the plant ages and roots grow, the more they can sustain in increasingly wetter environments. Good observation!

What??? Nutrients are illegal? That's ridiculous...
Anyway, with the names I mention above, that means I can start hydroponic? I should read article how to setup for hydroponic now. Maybe it helps in future.

Yes, the soil can be described as fine grained. it's been the third day I stop water it, still it droop. I afraid the plant couldn't make it. :lot-o-toke:

No, Hydro and nutrients aren't illegal, but growing certain plants is, and in some places, super illegal.

You can slowly morph into hydro over time if you want to, but having access to hydro nutrients means when your plants are bigger and IF you encounter any deficiencies, you'll be able to correct them rather quickly than if you had to make corrections organically.

Hey @Grower Washington Jr - have you got Coco medium available in your area?
I am strictly a soil grower - but if you are struggling to get the right soil and are struggling with over watering - i'd recommend trying out coco as your medium as its not as retentive as general soil and you are less likely to overwater as the medium generally dries quickly. Just a thought :yummy::bongrip::Namaste:

Yes I remember there's coco selling out there, a brown color brick. But the 2 new seedling grow fast and looks healthy (is it because they are auto?). Maybe I'll just wait and observe, if I still fail I will either try hydro or coco. :meatballs:

The one in the blue pot is dead.

My guess is your soil is probably both too hot and no where near enough aeration.

Personally if you want the easiest grow method I would start a true Living Organic Soil no-till.
You basically just grow soil and let the soil grow the plant.
All you have to do is simply give it proper light and water.
And use fabric pots.

If your in a small pot like that and your soil isn't dry within 3 days or less then it's not right.
It will create an anaerobic soil starved for oxygen.

They seem to be doing better Washington Jr :high-five:

Interesting, this is the first time i heard this name. I'll check it out. Thanks.

I too think blue pot died. The other two are in smaller pots so the process of soil drying doesn't take as long. Not to mention you learned some quick lessons in that blue pot that makes me think you didn't water the small pots as much or as frequent which is resulting well.

Indeed, I learned it the hard way. I am using spray bottle instead of syringe to water them.
