Time to let this girl have the 3x3 to herself. Won’t take long to fill this screen, then to flower she goes. The Humboldt Dream and Mimosa both went to live in the big tent. It cuts them down from 24/0 to 20/4 due to the auto in flower, but that’s okay. We can veg at 20/4 if necessary. The Strawberry Haze stays at 24/0 until the flip.
Once we’re in flower we are going to see what’s up with the KS3000. It really has done and is doing a fabulous job in veg, and we’re in mid to late veg now. Very happy with the performance of the KS3000 so far. To be honest I am a little surprised. Yay! In the picture showing the light it looks like this gigantic beast atop a poor little plant, lol. But for a 3x3 this thing really is beastly. The bar style light is my favorite for many reasons, but the main one is the smoothness and evenness of the coverage. You can see how perfectly the light fills the 3x3, and as I slide my Phototone app phone from wall to wall across the same height line, the ppfd barely changes. This means no hot spots, and no colder spots, just nice and even all the way around. Even the edges and corners aren’t far off the center. Again, very happily surprised. I’ll be the first to admit to ViparSpectra that it’s significantly better than I thought it would be. Bravo and thank you!
(Viper Val, you’ll love this - I call all my buddies up north and rave that I got a free light and it’s awesome and I’m sponsored and stuff, and they think I’m too cool for school, lmao!)
Btw - the above joke to Valerie at VS is just that, I’m kidding around, but it does segue into something worth mentioning. They have to have more folks doing her job than just Valerie, but as “my contact” (and I know others) her “customer service” has been amazing. She gets back to you always and quickly, she’s engaged in the journals, she helps out with suggestions to highlight stuff….basically she represents the company extremely well. The marketing blitz that VS went on (and suddenly a lot of folks are doing VS journals) appears to be working very well. If my mind has been changed then others minds have been too. I’m very impressed with ViparSpectra as a company and their commitment to us. Valerie even let me send the engineers a suggestion!! Just amazing.
Here’s the girl today from several angles and a picture showing the KS3000 atop the plant. Note the picture showing the temperature/rh gauge. I’m lucky, at least in regard to climate. This is what I have running 100% ambient. No extraction fan, no filter. Temperature control is rarely necessary but if it is it’s achieved with the combination of the AC unit and the extent to which I open the door. When we flip I’ll display how I manage an ambient system when the tent stays closed 12 hours a day.

Check out the rather odd calyxes on this plant. They all have these hairs that all point down like these. Also the unruly bud formation. She’s a wild one.

Fate has intervened and suddenly this plant has a schedule. I just found out what my spring vacation is. Friday, April 14, I’m playing with my brothers band in Pittsburgh for a benefit event called Punkapalooza, and Saturday, April 15, I’ll be in Coudersport, Pa, playing with the electric version of the band at the Crittenden. Weekend of gigs! Yay!
So that means I need this plant in the books by April 12. That’s 91 days from now. My assistant (lol, 80-year old stepfather) can water the other plants for a couple days, but the SH will be harvested or painfully close, or drying. I can’t walk on any of that. So all that said…
I gotta flip her. Not today. But tomorrow maybe. We’re around half fullish, and the stretch plus the branches just about to hit the screen now should fill her up pretty well. Arjan says 70 days of flower (10 weeks). That would give me enough time to dry her before I go and get it in jars, trimmed or not. Get the help to burp. Trim when I return.
I’m pretty excited to get out of this horrid state for a few days, see some family and great friends, and PLAY.

I’m so psyched! And yeah, I just tucked and took some leaves, and I think she’ll fill the screen just fine if I flip tomorrow. It’s fuller than it looks. It won’t be every square but it is what it is. Quality here, not quantity. Plus the word is she stretches a lot. So we’ll find out! Can’t wait to see how the @ViparSpectra KS3000 does in flower!

Shed you’ll appreciate this as a musician, relative to gear. You know how you sometimes will sit down at an unfamiliar kit that people told you is serious quality and you have no reference point? Then you play it, and you fall WAY in love? This bass is like that. It’s maiden gig, in the mountains last summer right after I got it, was so damn special I can’t even tell you. I felt like I was holding something that exceeded me, but then over the course of the gig became a part of me. If that makes sense.Get to show off that new bass, nice!

FLIP DAY!!
So tomorrow we will call day one of flower. Her lights go out at 6:30 pm tonight. From 24/0 to 12/12. Hopefully we can fill this screen during the stretch.
Here’s the plant in her totality, showing the state of the screen, the corners, and the undercarriage, as well as proximity to the @ViparSpectra KS3000. I have all that room upstairs to play, and note that she’s on a bucket. So that can come out too if necessary. I basically have the space to do whatever I can or want! That is in large part due to ViparSpectra’s very intelligent design relative to having the driver separated from the light with a long cord. Having the driver outside the tent creates maximum space and minimizes heat. Bravo ViparSpectra.
I get excited for flip day. The stretch tells the story a lot of times. Can’t wait to see this light bring in the weight and the frost! She’s at around 700 ppfd right now. I will see where she is after the stretch and then adjust as necessary until I have her at around 900-1000 ppfd. I’m going a little lower on the light intensity this time. See what’s up with the conservative light routine.
Alrighty then. This is how we go to war. Let’s start the show! (He said, mixing metaphors…)

Thanks @StoneOtter - we’ll see shortly how I do in the stretch. There’s about 90 usable squares in the screen plus however much fits around the frame. Obviously I can’t (and wouldn’t, it would be way too compact) fill them all. But I think the space allows for around 50 tops - with roughly every other square spacing. That’s about the perfect world here I think. If she doesn’t outstretch the screen it’s going to be quite impressive looking in a month.That's a bad ass full diy scrog Jon!
