Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

Question for anyone listening who may know….

My plan with the White Widow auto was to wait until I see roots in the bottom hole of the pot and then bring in the res. But the roots must be close now, it’s a small pot, like a 1/2 gallon. What I’m wondering is this:

Is there any value to starting the res early? Will the bubbling water wet the perlite in the bottom and attract the roots?

I hope that’s not a dumb question. Lol. Thanks guys!

This is my attempt at capturing the thickness of the Mac and Jack smoke.

Hey Jim, is it okay to soak the brushes for like ten minutes in the cleaner then just wash and rinse clean?
Why would you need to soak them? Just rub in a few drops of Mile HIGH cleaner to break up any resin then wash with dish detergent and they should come back to looking like new.
this shows it pretty well.

I thought you guys said you wanted to see something good….

How about a pretty big auto in a 5x5?

Heh.

Textbook Dual Sombrero Training
Final Training Touch: The Unveiling
Day 51

And now she begins to present for us the true glory of Dual Sombrero Training. Everything the silly name promises is quite apparent here. There comes a point in this training, after you are pretty sure all the buds are formed and you won’t get any new ones, when it’s time to let this girl spread her wings and fly. For which the girl needs a little help, which I gave her today and which you are the results of. But when you have the right plant which cooperates the right way, it can be breathtaking….I’ve only gotten lucky enough with a cooperative enough plant to hit it this well once before. This one is…jeez I almost hate to say it cuz it’s mine….spectacular. I’m beyond blown away. Couldn’t ask for anything more. From an auto. Phew.

So here it is, the unveiling of her final look. Now I just keep the res happy, and there’s a chain reaction that happens:

Happy res > Happy roots > Happy plant > Happy Jon

Happy Sunday everyone. Thanks for sharing my joy.

I thought that’s what I’ve been showing step by step….lol. But the silly name is just a mask for an even sillier thing to refer to as a technique. It’s really just this:

1. Let plant grow without touch until you top above either node 4 or 5.
2. Pull the branches at node 1,2 and 3 (and 4 if you topped at 5) to the side and make a ring.
3. Keep extending ring as far as you can and let the tops grow out.

That’s it. It’s far from rocket science. By using the lowest nodes as your main branches you max out the possible stem length under each branch. These branches, even if you don’t top them, will shoot side branches that will also have the time to get long. You end up with a ring around two towers. At the end you spread out the ring. Light gets to everything. No flarf. Lots of yield.

But you gotta have a tall tent or do a small version. It works great for outdoor where the sun hits everything. And it works much better with a bar light.

Simple as I can break it down. Painfully easy.

Helpful @CaptainLucky?

Concise, to the point very well explained and to answer your question Yeah, thanks. And I have a bar light 💡. CL🍀

Well….I pulled the trigger.

For Christmas I got a new 5x5x9 Gorilla Grow Tent, just like my current 5x5. I have been chomping at the bit to grab a new light to try in it, and one that fits a meager budget. I’ve been watching the NextLight Mega Pro. The price started near $1100. It finally came down to a price I can handle - $420! (Lol) and I just bought it.

640 continuous watts with the already well tested (from the 420h) NextLight spectrum. At $420, imho, this was too much of a steal to not grab. No it’s not a bar light. But I’ve seen what results @Emilya Green gets with hers and I’m sure it will be awesome. Not to mention the thing is huge!

That makes my 5x5 light arsenal:
- unnamed non-sponsor awesome beast
- @Mars Hydro FC-E6500
- NextLight Mega Pro

680, 650, 640 watts respectively. You’d think I was going to construct a dedicated room when I move and use all the 5x5 lights in it. Two sides at 5x15 with a lane down the middle for me and the chair - hell I’m halfway home!

Heh.

Just so you know, they're no longer a sponsor so you might want to edit that post.
That would explain why I couldn’t find a @ for them. Well it wasn’t a laud NL post, I couldn’t care less about them. Just happy to get a great deal on a solid light.

Garden Stuff

This White Widow specimen is a nicer one than the first I grew, at least at this early stage. She’s perfect. Soon to hit the res.

Here is also the beginning of our canopy for the Humboldt Dream. I really enjoy the training part.

The buds on the Platinum Mimosa Cookies XXL auto are very unruly looking. They all have this nice solid green center. Hard to capture in pics, I tried. Hoping it leads to density.
