No, honestly, it's a great starting point. If you don't have that going on the plant should be growing you.

Mini Phototown Update
Grow/Veg Day 31
Topping Hulkberry
Transplanting Ghost Train Haze
Final LST Session on Chunky
Bonus: Peek-in on the Sour Apple in the Auto rig on her Day 24

Hi Guys - once again I'm going to spare you my endless blathering. Here's what happened today in Phototown that was significant enough to post. This is about as brief as I can be.

- Performed final LST/training session on Chunky this morning, as she is showing preflowers now and is about to go into whatever stretch she has in her. The idea with the plant was to increase bud sites, obviously, but also to do so with significant and productive branches. I didn't want a bunch of bud sites with tiny little half inch stems when she started budding. In my limited experience that just leads to more sub-par buds. My goal was for each of the bud sites to be at the end of a significant branch with a significant stem. And I believe I did that reasonably well considering how late I started training her. If I had started earlier I could and would have topped this plant twice instead of once, and probably a bunch of other stuff too. She surprisingly developed a little bonus bud growing straight up in the very middle of the plant off the topping cut, which I hadn't seen yet. Pretty cool, picture included, as well as side and top shots to show her spread and "canopy." I hope she stretches a ton.
- Topped the Hulkberry. She was well into her sixth node and starting on her 7th. She was ready for transplant so I know her root ball is solid now, so again as much as it hurt I topped her using the Uncle Ben's method I'm using for this grow on the photos. As always the colas were right there waiting for me and she looks just fine. After topping picture included, as well as a shot of her top which is now in the process of rooting I hope along with the tops from the other two photos.
- Transplanted (of if you prefer, up-potted) the Ghost Train Haze into her five gallon condo. I've related this methodology several times, it's not unusual or rocket science. Plant was perfectly ready. Root ball is solid and well developed. She was transplanted into my standard Fox Farms soil mix, same as she started in, ie, 40% FF Ocean Forest/40% Fox Farms Happy Frog/20% perlite #3. I watered afterwards with the first watering of the fourth week of the Fox Farms feeding schedule (including Open Sesame, @Emilya!) Both the GTH and the Hulkberry are straight Fox Farms patients this go, and for the first time, on Emilya's advice, I am feeding them with zero adjustments to the FF feeding schedule as written. So far so good. I was scared, and as usual the girl was 100% correct. So far...lol. Before and after pictures included.
- All plants that get nutes, ie, Ghost Train Haze, Hulkberry, and Chunkadelic, are beginning week four of their respective nute schedules today. The great thing about that is that now my nute mix doesn't change until I'm ready to flip them, at least the Fox Farms one. Yay. Life got easier for the next month or so.
- BONUS: :laughtwo: I decided to top the Sour Apple in the auto rig at between node 2 and 3, Uncle Ben's method, for the first time. Seemed WAY too radical for an auto. I did this three days ago when I accidentally also chopped off one of her two second node leaves. (dummy) I was told by someone in the know that it would be fine, maybe just develop slightly more slowly for a bit. That person was right again. She's fine, and we now will have at least four colas on this plant instead of the one like last time. She seems to be enjoying the Sohum soil so far, probably too early to really make an assessment about that.

Phototown Update
Chunkadelic Defoliation
Grow/Veg Day 32

Most of the action in Phototown is centered at the moment on Chunky, the Chunkadelic autoflower.

This morning we performed the final and only defoliation of the Chunkadelic. I bolded "and only" because to me in my autoflower growing development I want to know what I did in terms of defoliation, and almost in all cases I want to do the bare minimum I deem necessary, and as infrequently as possible. Only doing it once in her grow cycle, today, was awesome. I didn't take as much as one leaf the entire grow until today, and I won't take any more most likely. But we are now seeing preflowering in earnest so it's the last chance (in my opinion) for a "real" defoliation. I really don't like to defoliate in flower any more than is necessary, which (in my opinion) is hopefully not at all. Anyway, my goal was to open up the middle of the plant and expose the lower bud sites to as much light as I possibly could. The pictures shown here reflect a combination of leaf removal, repositioning of a few posts to change cola positions just a bit to try and even out the "canopy," and a fair amount of leaf tucking. One advantage of having all these little skewers as my training posts is that they can go anywhere you need them to and they provide excellent tucking spots for the leaves, as well as minimal disruption to the roots when poking into soil (versus a much wider and non pointed bamboo piece or something). I accept the trade off that it makes watering slightly more difficult. This training I have done on this plant is pretty much the same kind of training the photos are going to get, just a little less involved. She is basically finished completely with training now, and all we do now is keep her fed and watch her bud out. In a few days I will assess the growth at the bottom of the plant and remove anything I deem unfit. This plant, (to my eye) is extremely healthy and happy. Can't wait to see what kind of yield I get from her in light of the damn ounce and an eighth I got from the last Sour Apple. Lol.

I will mention that this plant responded up to this point extremely well to the Canna nutes. I haven't had as much as the slightest blemish on her for the entire grow. The only few dots you may have seen in the pics are a spot where I poked a skewer through a leaf. Twice. Lol. The autoflower feeding chart for Canna which I have followed to the letter seems just about perfect, at least for veg, and at least for this particular strain of autoflower, and at least for this specific plant. :laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo::laughtwo: Lol, the reality of qualifiers. I'm also extremely happy with the mono-silicic acid treatment. You can really see the difference in how the stems of the entire plant are as compared to any previous auto where I never used the MSA. The stems are flexible, but very strong. A bit wider and/or more girth. Greener too. They also will "harden into place" more quickly using this stuff I have noticed, which is discussed in their literature. I feel it's important now that I see what it does to stay on top of the training due to that. You will see on the Slurricane that the outer branches are going to end up going up like a staircase instead of a line. Anyway, nice that at least two of my new things for this grow seem to be working out nicely so far.

That's all for today. Thanks for following along guys.

Hulkberry Moves In To The New Condo
Grow/Veg Day 33

Today was transplant/up-potting day for the Hulkberry. Perfect root ball. Flawless transplant. She's still a runt. But man is she healthy looking. Don't mind the leaf with the nute splash at the 6 o'clock position in the picture. I wouldn't be me if I didn't do something to f--k up my perfect plant. Lol. I picked something up from @Emilya the other day in her journal when she talked about up-potting one of her girls and it was wetter than she either liked or preferred, but that it would be fine. To offset that, at least as I understood it, she simply did the transplant and then let the plant sit in the new digs with the water it already had going in the transplant root ball/dirt. Basically saying you don't HAVE to water upon the moment of transplant. I liked that, and since the Hulkberry was in a similar position I went ahead and up-potted her. The hole itself was dampened and dusted with mycorrhizae, but other than that she went in the hole and got top dressed and that was it til she's ready and pretty doggone dry. Then when I water her in earnest she'll respond like a madwoman on steroids. I can't wait. The Hulkberry is on week four of the FF feeding chart, followed to the letter, and so far so good. The great part about getting to week four on the chart is that from now until I flip them, which may be 45 days yet, I don't have to change the nute mix for either the Hulkberry or the Ghost Train Haze (the FF plants). They simply stay on week four til the flip. ONE nute mix for a month at least. Feels like Heaven. Lol.

That's about it for today. Here's a picture of the Hulkster in her new condo, on Wednesday, August 19, Day 33.

Hey @Emilya, you know what? See the picture of her? See the four colas? This plant did not/does not have the two other branches coming out of the first node like every other plant I've seen. Either that or they aren't out yet, which I find dubious. My understanding was that when you top using UB method, you will always get the six colas. And indeed that is precisely and only what has been the case with every plant and every strain I topped in that manner, even the current Sour Apple auto in the auto rig. So I'm wondering.......what's up with that? Is this unusual other than in my limited experience or does this happen? Seems awfully odd.

They will come as the plant realizes that there is plenty of light there in the middle. Pretty soon you will have more buds than you can shake a stick at.

Thanks. I actually looked more closely, and they're there. They're just runtish like everything on her so far. They are basically just little bumps, lol. But enough for me to see that what you said is certainly the case. Appreciate it.

Phototown Chunkadelic Stretch Update
Wednesday, August 18

Grow Day 33

Sorry guys, thought I was done posting today, but I realized that showing the Chunkadelic and how much she stretches might have value to someone. I also want it documented for myself. I'll be brief.

- In true genius fashion, I have figured out that today is Wednesday the 18th, not the 19th. Duh.
- The Chunkadelic started showing the first sign of pre-flowers a few days ago. This morning was the first day that I could see visually that the plant had actually stretched in the dark. In my experience you notice the stretch the most first thing in the morning, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, she stretched about 3/4 of an inch or maybe an inch. Let's call it an inch. Before the inch, no stretch. So let's document that so far the stretch is only an inch. We will see how much if any more she goes, and I'll make mention of it in further posts. The last picture will serve as a reference point of perspective for further updates on this.
- This is a very attractive plant. Can't really tell in the pictures except perhaps in the above shot, but she almost has a blueish sheen to her. Kind of neon-y. Very pretty plant to look at.
- My nose does not smell this plant in the tent at all yet. Granted I am smell-compromised considering the grow room is also my smoke room and it always always smells like dank exhale in here. So usually someone else will tell me how stinky a plant actually is. So far no bitching. Lol. I do hope she develops some odor while she buds. Obviously.
- Just for fun, see the picture that is a mound of dirt. That is the pile where I dumped my pots from the last grow. I piled it up like that and dropped in two of the Sour Apple nine bag seeds I got from Sue Anne. Just to see what happens. My guess is they'll sprout and grow and be terrible and get no nutes and be growing in exhausted soil and yield nothing. I'm just gonna let nature take complete control of this and see what happens. Lol.
- The picture with the red Dixie cups are my toppings, which may or may not root. But after several days they still look this good and the bottom of the stems are starting to appear to be sprouting roots. Lol. I know nothing about this, I just wanted to see what would happen.

That's really it, it's more important for the pictures.

Hi Jon
Fab as ever..
Is that how you always do your cuttings mate?
I’ve seen a few people here using water..
I m gonna give it a go with those root sponges soon myself..
I left a cutting off a diesel auto in a sponge, without much care at all.. and she actually gave me 2 little frosty buds.
I’d definitely like to have a proper go at them at some point.
Cheers for the great info mate

Thanks Bud Love. No I just plopped them in plain old Ph'ed water. That's it. They sit right where you saw them. If something happens, great. If not, great. I don't have time now to do it right and amass the necessary stuff. I have not one place or one free light to veg a plant with, and it's way too hot outside. I have no idea what I'll do with any of these if they do root. I will plant them, obviously, but then if they take and are real plants I'm screwed. I'll have to buy a cheapie light and grow the best of them out in my bathroom. I can probably make that work. Lmao.
