Jon’s 3 Autoflower - 3 Pounds Attempt Grow

So @Azimuth, is that what I’m doing here? A SIP? I never heard of SIP but I get it. Does this qualify as that?
Sort of but you've gone all fancy pants with your air stones and super big reservoir.

Don't know if you follow @Buds Buddy 's grow but Here's a group shot showing his SIP and the difference from his other plants.

That's what I was saying earlier in the thread that this structure was going to surprise you in how well it works.

Every plant I've grown with this pot structure has been miles above the ones I grew before. I don't think I'll ever grow with a normal pot again.

Hi @InTheShed and @Thirvnrob - okay, understand the confusion. Perhaps this helps clarify? I see it like this: I have no need to water down the middle. I still do and will, and when I do I just do it very slowly, right down the stem. But 90%+ of the time I can just water a large ring around the outside. And in the case of uppotting, that tells me I don’t have to bury the first root ball. I can leave it up and level the outer ring where I water. These pictures show you what I mean for two angles, I hope they help. Does this help to clarify? And honestly Thirvnrob, I’m not on any different level. Everything I do I learned the basics of from folks like Shed here and many others. I just take that and try to tweak and have fun with it. But thanks for the kind words there.

I definitely get the objective - to produce the mother of all root systems! When I say you're on another level, I mean you're always thinking outside the box & your ideas are thought stimulating. What if I push the envelope here? What will happen? Then you try whatever & go for it! you've had fantastic results & your journals are anything but boring. Your energy permeates. I think this is another JOTM. This is a learning experience for me for sure, and seriously, you may be pioneering techniques that'll be named someday. I'm just as impressed as I am confused, but yes, this explanation helps.
Think about this. I've known musicians who play for decades & they're pretty good, but every now & then, someone comes along & in 6 months or a year, they're playing at a very advanced level. You're that guy...

Damn man you make me blush and are way too kind. I’m one of those musicians who has been playing for decades. But so far Vic Wooten hasn’t stopped by to help me to his level. However, in the case of growing I have ready access to the best source of information on the planet: you guys. That makes it tons easier. But really, thanks man. Let’s see if we’re both this psyched in four days after leaving my babies with my parents to water. Lol. I’m more worried about my plants than leaving my dog!

By the way Jon, you SOB, now I’m curious about growing in coco. You SOB…;>

Growing in coco….ah @Thirvnrob ….

Don’t start down this path lightly my friend. You read about @Azimuth saying he will never go back now that he always crushes the SIP? I used to grow in soil. I did okay in soil. I like soil. Then I started watching @Bill284. Bill is the coco master. He’s my encyclopedia for all things coco. I am literally doing nothing more than exactly what he does, with a few tweaks cuz I have bigger balls. (LMAO!!! Just kidding Bill!)

My pot prep in any pot in coco? Bill
My activation timing? Bill
My teas? Bill
My watering in coco? Bill

See what I mean? So back to where I started….tread carefully. Because if you go to the Dark Side, there’s no coming back. After you grow your first plant in coco you will look at soil like it’s watching paint dry. Outdoors I may do soil. But tents? Coco. Or coco and water maybe. Heh. I am beginning to think a well run coco grow can match or even beat the same plant in a hydro set up.

It’s easy to grow in coco. All you have to do is be committed and have the time for watering three times a day and mixing nutes constantly. Other than that it’s cake.

There’s my take.

Pre Vacation Scrog Shots

These will be the last pics of the scrog for four days, maybe five. By now you guys know that’s not really my style, I’m more of an overposter. Lol. I can’t wait to see the difference when I get back.

Nothing changes in here anymore. I try to stay on the defol but even new leaf generation has pretty much done it’s thing. What we have is pretty much what we get. I water and try to stay out of the tent. Everything else is on autopilot.

Hope you guys have as much fun as me the next four days. I’ll be engaged in pro level debauchery.

You guys want some morning amusement? This might make you laugh. Here’s a few of the items on my to do list before boarding a flight tomorrow morning:

- mix and separate by plant 10 gallons of nute water per plant, ie, 40 gallons…this gives me a gallon in the morning, a gallon at 4 pm, and half a gallon at 10 pm, which is their basic feeding schedule….2.5 gallons x 4 days x 4 plants = 40 gallons @ 10/plant

- show mom the watering technique for the big tent autos in veg…showed her how to water the scrog yesterday - that one’s easy, just dump it on, the others not so much

- show stepdad how to feed Molly and when

- print explicit directions on watering to support the demonstrations cuz my parents are 80 and they’ll forget stuff

- demonstrate to stepdad what to do at the fuse box if there’s a storm and a fuse goes that affects the grow room - it’s always the same fuse, and it’s easy, but must be checked after any storm

- pack

Heh. :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley:

I may investigate SIP, but coco... no, as dedicated as I am, I am not willing to become a total slave to my garden for a bit more yield. For you to be able to take a break, you needed TWO other people to fill in! I like being able to take a day or two off now and then. Also, there is just something special that is added by the soil, especially in an organic grow and for me its always about quality, not quantity.

Have a great vacation Jon and enjoy the debauchery.

Heh. Thank you. I would argue that the work I put in results not in a LITTLE more yield but a ton more. I would also argue that the quality of my buds is on par with anyone else’s and any other growing style. That said, I completely agree about the soil thing with organics - there is a taste that results from that which cannot be duplicated. And I love that taste. This is why I say outside soil inside coco. Also, when you’re me - I’m only running a 5x5 and a 3x3. Your grow rooms are bigger. All of them. So maxing yield for me is essential. Especially with no compromise in quality.

Edit: it’ll be easy enough to see soon enough. We both grew the identical plant, you in soil in your style, me in coco in mine. I’m not by any means competing or anything like that, lol, but it will be interesting to see if or what the difference is in our yields.

Have a great trip and vacation Jon!

Oh and I agree so far....the coco plant I have outside has been the easiest to look after.
I may have cheated a bit and made a reservoir in my garage, and plugged in a pump on a wifi power bar. :cheesygrinsmiley:

For now I’ll stick with soil since I’m lazy, but I am intrigued by it…

Hey @Thirvnrob :ciao: hope you are doing well my friend.
@Jon Is too kind, thanks buddy. :thanks:
Jon's grows are awesome because Jon is a brilliant hard working coco jedi.
I just gave him a few tips from my Bill284 Method and he ran with it.
It's a simple effective technique for growing huge healthy plants that I'm hoping to show everyone.
It's effective in soil or promix, basically anything in a pot.
It's in my Heavens Shores and Gorilla Glue clone threads.
And my door is always open for explanations or anything you need at all, I'm always available.
Take care.

Stay safe
