Joe's Grows

I think I'm starting to see the trichomes change.

Hey 420,
Just wanted to talk about my soil mix.
The soil I started with is advertised as a 'living soil'. It contains sphagnum peat moss, pumice, worm castings, compost, bio-char, paramagnetic rock dust, soft agricultural lime, gypsum, mussel meal, neem meal, kelp meal, and ground malted barley.
I've grown one plant to harvest in it, so I'm going to amend the soil for my next grow.
It will be going into a 15 gallon fabric pot.
So far I've added some peat moss, some kelp meal and worm castings.
I went and got some extra goodies yesterday. These are the amendments I got.
Mealworm frass,
Seabird guano, (phosphorus)
Fish meal,
Kelp meal,
Rock dust,
Sugarbeet molasses meal,
Mussel meal,
Feather meal,
Inoculated bio-char,
Alfalfa meal,
Rock phosphate,
Organic acids, (amino, fulvic, humic)
I also got mycorrhizae and trichoderma fungi.
Since this is the first time I've added all this stuff to the soil, I was wondering if anyone has any tips or advice. I don't want to get ahead of myself.

The plant in the tent is looking like it's finished but I can't see amber trichomes yet. I thought I did, but now I'm not so sure.
I took a tester bud and tried it, it smells 'floral', and tastes like lavender. Nice mellow stone, but I'm more of a fan of skunky, ass kicking weed, the kind of stuff that will make me dribble and lose all sense of time :cheesygrinsmiley:

I've made 2 batches of soil.
One is base soil with 3 cups of 4-4-4 premixed amendment blend, I'll leave it to cook for a few weeks and top dress as needed.

The second batch is a little more complicated.
It contains the following ingredients,
55 ltrs soil,
5 ltrs peat moss,
3 cups kelp meal,
2 ltrs worm castings,
3 tsp frass meal,
5 tsp rock dust,
8 cups bio-char,
1 cup feather meal,
1 cup fish meal,
.5 cup molasses meal,
6 cups alfalfa meal,
.75 cup mussel meal,
.5 cup rock phosphate.
This mix will cook for a few months.

Took a few pics during the process, there's already some worms in the soil but I'm not sure how long they'll be there once the soil warms up. Maybe they'll stay, maybe they won't.

Checking the trichomes today, it's pretty hard to see in the pics, but they are milky and I've seen a few amber ones.

As I was looking, I found some mold. Luckily it was only a little bit. I've been super careful not to transfer spores, but with the constant high humidity it was going to happen anyway. I was going to give it another week, but considering the circumstances, I pulled the trigger early.

So, harvest day it is.

After a long day trimming, I filled up the tray you see below, twice. It measures 20in across and 2in deep. The bud is solid and sticky. It smells sweet.

I've got weed drying everywhere now :cheesygrinsmiley:, some has been moved to jars for curing, some still drying.
I had to get extra jars from the hardware store the other day and I was laughing to myself about the fact that I'm wheeling a trolley load of clinking jars and nothing else to the checkout, about to cure my weed in them, if only they knew

I was wondering if I should start another seed...
I was sitting in the sun this morning, smoking, and I noticed that a seedling had sprouted next to my aloe plant, I only threw one seed in there a few days ago and I didn't think it would grow.
So it looks like the wondering is over.
Welcome to my new baby.

Time to fill the 15 gallon fabric pot with living soil.
I started with a 1 inch layer of my 'hot mix' soil. That's the soil I added a lot of amendments to.
Then I filled the rest of pot with the soil I added the 4-4-4 mix to about a week ago. As you can see the soil with the 4-4-4 mix is bursting with mycelium. It's also got a good worm population, full size ones and babies as well.

Once the pot was full of soil, I made a small hole for the seedling and added some mycorrhizae.
Then I scooped the seedling out of its pot and planted it in the fresh soil.
After that I added a layer of mulch, (sphagnum moss and cannabis leaves), to help with moisture retention and to feed the soil food web.

It's close to half a pound so it's still a handy amount. I thought you previously said you already got some new genetics for the next grow
Close to half a pound is very handy indeed. I'm stoked.
I was hoping my friend could order some seeds for me since I'm not very good at the interwebs :hmmmm: but he hasn't come through yet. Fingers crossed.
I've got lots of bagseed, and since one popped up randomly I've decided to go with it for now. I enjoy the growing as well, I feel like something is missing when I don't have a plant going.

I am still carrying the memory of an accidentally droughted plant I grew close to 15 years ago. It was just from bag seed, but after getting wilted in a too small pot all thru Summer, and then harvested with about 15% amber, the result was really top class, way better than the buds it came from.
I want good genetics too, but that experience made me wonder how much is it to do with how we grow/water it, and how long we do so before the chop, as usually the weather causes me to harvest before I get the full amount of amber I want.
Do you run a fan with your indoor? I was wondering if I used a spare bathroom over winter when heat shouldn't be an issue from LEDs, and whether I could get away with just sealing the window and running the light?
