Joe's Grows

I've decided that if Trala's seeds haven't arrived by Friday, I'll start one of the zkittlez. I have 3 seeds but one looks a little bit pale, I'm assuming it's immature and not viable. The other 2 look ok.
The first seeds I ever bought were when I was in Amsterdam in the late 90's, they were White Widow, and all were white and very small. I even asked the salesman if they were ok being white and he said they were fine. I sent them home by mail (should've used corrugated cardboard) and unfortunately all but 1 got crushed, the remaining small white seed sprouted and I then proceeded to knock the f*cking tap root off it, gutted.

But I wouldn't to rush to dismiss white seeds, in fact I have a bunch of early Mulanje seeds that this post has now prompted me to try sprouting some today just to test their viability!

Bummer about the crushed seeds and the broken tap root, I'd be gutted too.

It'll be interesting to see if your early seeds germinate, looks like you've got plenty to try. I've always thrown pale seeds out, I hope I haven't been throwing away viable seeds.

I'll get several of those whitish potentially immature Mulanje seeds and soak them today just to see. I'll let you know what happens.

I'll definitely be watching closely.
I just now got these 5 seeds from the early chop I did on my Mulanje. Are these white enough? 2 pics of same seeds on different backgrounds. They're soaking now so if any of them is any good then something should pop, otherwise yep they're duds!

If any of those pop, there's definitely hope for mine.

The outdoor girl is still growing despite the cold. Temperature dropped to 9°c last night. That's about 50°f.
Did a bit of lst to open up the center of the plant.

Just to give you an update, the 5 immature white seeds that I have had going for 2 days, are showing no sign of sprouting yet, so if nothing tomorrow then I guess they're too immature and not viable.

Your outdoor plant will most likely take a bit of a hit as she finds her feet, but hopefully she will come thru and have natural toughness by Spring. If any of the above immature seeds sprout, I may well also plant them and see if they can survive the winter ok, altho I am guessing they won't sprout at this stage.

Today is the day that Trala's gift arrived. I'm so excited, I planted her straight in the soil.
Unfortunately the posties round here are rough as guts and the gelato auto was squished. At least the zkittlez seed made it.
Let's hope she pops her head up in a few days.

It was worth a shot. You never know till you try.

Surprisingly, she handled the transition quite well. If she makes it through the winter with no problem I'll be amazed. I kind of expect her to stop growing and go into hibernation as it gets colder. It'll be an interesting experiment.

Damn, kidney stones suck. Going back to bed and feel sorry for myself. Medication kicking in now.

Outdoor girl is a trooper.

The seedling in the aloe Vera pot popped up at the same time as her big sister.

No sign of our zkittlez yet.

Night night.

Something is eating the outdoor seedling. I'm guessing it's snails. I was thinking about making beer traps but I don't drink so I'll have to get a 6pack next time I'm in town.

The other one is looking healthy. I read that snails won't crawl over copper, so I wrapped a piece of pipe around the pot. Besides a few scraggly leaves, whatever was ailing her is gone now. Miggy says she looks good.

Trala's seed still hasn't shown her face yet. I've been keeping the soil moist, but not soaking wet. As you can see, something else has germinated, so it must be a decent environment. When I plant a seed, I try to create an environment like spring; warm soil, plenty of light (not too much), the occasional sprinkle of rain etc. I use a small spray bottle to mist lightly.
I've popped seeds in this soil before, so I know it's okay for babies. I'm just hoping this seed wasn't damaged in transit as well. We shall see.

I've had slugs chomp off the heads of my seedlings, they'd come out after dark in the dew of the night and climb up the pots and chow down before buggering off before sun up. I threw some of the blue snail & slug baits around and that seemed to stop and kill them.
Did I tell you I'm going to be a Grandpa?
:woohoo: :yahoo:
Big congrats to you Joe!

Yeah I've used the pellets before and they work well, but I've been trying not to use chemicals outside if I can help it. I don't want the dogs to eat it, and since it's their area I have to think about that. Not worried if they lap up some beer though, lol.

To be brutally honest, I'm not really that bothered about the seedling, it's the bigger one I'm more worried about getting eaten.

Thanks for the congrats, it's pretty exciting, although it's making me feel old (as he looks through his specs perched on the end of his nose)
