I’m considering leaving the harvest until right before I leave, and leaving the trimmed bud in my fridge unattended to dry for the 10 days I’m away.
Really appreciate this bobrown, this is pretty much exactly my situation so it's good to know that I can do it to great results.I did that this summer for I think 3 weeks and a little bit, came home and in the can they went was perfect. Took longer tho after canning to get really good. I was giving it away after 20 days in the fridge and a few weeks in the can. Ended up really really good. Was surprised.
The fridge thing works just be sure there's decent air flow. I completely emptied my fridge and completely filled it with paper bags and weed! hahahaha Couldn't even smell it was there until we came home and opened the fridge! Woohoo
The bags in the back if they are against the back touching back of fridge can get damp due to the freeze thaw cycle (no frost) freezers. Our fridge sweats a little on the back side. So can get bags wet if its touching. ( Pro Tip lol. ) That was the only thing for me, a few bags got damp but in the fridge its pretty good. No mold thankfully. Just had to let them dry more.
before I leave them for 10. Should come back to bud that's ready to jar if all goes well!
I like doing it that way to makes it smoke smoother!I generally leave them for 14 days. 10 days should be fine, you will know if it is too wet still.
for me, larger harvests are harder, you dont want to pack the buds too tightly together. I think I have done 4 or 5 harvests this way, i cant remember, it is my normal, works good.
i found some pictures for comparo.
Here is a single cola (my homemade ace x cannabiogen cross) just after chop.
then after 0ne week in fridge. I realized I should get it off the stem, what the hockey puck was i thinkin?
So I chopped it up before going back in.
It was still moist after one week and needed more dry time, ready at 14days. it stays so green looking drying like this.
What did you get by Ripper Seeds? Finally got my Black Friday seeds. Not including the seedsman freebies
Pack them loose enough in the paper bags (30 grams or so per bag) and you won't even really need to sift through the bags regularly. I have left mine in the fridge for 10 days, didn't touch it a single time and when I finally did, I was sitting about 68% RH and ready for the jars and a day or three of burping. Thanks kelticBlue. My usual drying is 14 days, and I do all of my trim beforehand, so everything gets paper bagged as trimmed buds. I take them out of the fridge and "stir" a bit every day. My concern around my approach is really about not having that "stir" and potentially leaving things in a state where something bad (like mold) could happen. The chances are pretty slim, and bobrown and SweetSue have both given me enough info to reassure me that this is a sound approach.
I most definitely take the advice of the folks on here seriously. I was going to chop my Black DOG on Friday night but held off thanks to advice from Jgrow and lazyfish and I'm glad I did - I have noticed the week 9 swell they told me to look for.
(thanks again Jgrow for letting me talk about my plants in here!)
