Jay's Detailed Soilless Grow

Thanks!!

Serious question here before the seedlings get too far...

Soil or Soilless??

This confused me too all ends my first grow. I do not have a growing medium picked yet. I do have nutrients and don't want to buy more.

1) I have 3 part nutrients, 2 bottles say use in "soilless, hydro, coco" and 1 says use in "soil, hydro, coco". It is a 3 part bought together!! So this already confuses me..

2) First grow was "Organic Potting Soil". I assumed this must be soil, and PH'd the water accordingly.

3) Because my nutes said soilless, I figured they weren't any good for Organic Potting SOIL.

4) Went to local store to buy soil nutes, and the guy handed me bottles which also said "soilless, hydro, coco"... Told him Im growing in Potting Soil, need soil nutes.. He assured me soilless label was for soil?? So confusing.

Soooo...

1) What medium do I buy to use the nutrients I have?

2) With this medium, what should the PH of water be? 5.8 soilless? Or 6's for soil?

I’m using pro mix hp. It is soiless but ph buffers so unless your ph is way out to lunch you don’t really need to worry to much about it. I feed at just under 7 ph and the plants look great. The medium brings the ph down to 5.8ish.

I had the same issue as you on my first plants. Bag said organic potting soil but was composed of Pete sphagnum and bark so it was not soil. I had to use a ph of 5.8. Sooooo much easier in pro mix hp and it doesn’t dry out fast like coco so you don’t have to feed so often.

Everyone I know that uses pro mix hp loves it.

You got a pic of the soil you are using? A bale of pro mix isn’t that expensive if you don’t mind buying something else.

Buy pro MIX HP with mycorrhiza best soiless mix I’ve ever worked with and your ph will be 5.8-.6.3 depending on the vigor you can feed every water or every other up too you really but it’s a great mix that comes with beneficial fungi that helps with seeds and roots it is also pretty cost effective I haven’t spent more than $30 on soil and I will definitely add some new photos to my journal I was just giving the girls a few days with my light experiment before that I will most likely add some today as I just did a fresh watering yesterday

And I’m really glad to hear the girls sprung back if they are getting wider that good that means they are out of whatever stress they dealing with and your lights are probably just right for now from what I can see she looks happy in there

And yes absolutely if you want to do soiless pro mix is the way to go that or coco both have advantages and disadvantages but both are awsome way better that’s “soil” soil that’s more and outdoor concept or living organic growing

Found this site today. Sad that your first attempt was aborted since my first attempt is so similar and I was hoping to compare with my pics. I have 3 bakerstreets going. They are very bushy with huge fan leaves but not very tall. I am about a month from seed right now.

Nice, welcome! :welcome:

Ya, your plant certainly has a different look than mine did. Mine was also over watered for sure. The leaves you have there look huge! But you're right, it doesn't seem to be standing very tall.

Ill include the last pic I had of my first grow, tho you probably saw them already.

The last group of photos I just posted, the middle pic is the Bakerstreet Hindu Kush. Not the little one... Not the one with a "burn" on the left..

Planning to start a journal for your grow? Looks like its going well so far :)

Heres the first Bakerstreet plant before she went south fast.

I over watered, like you, transplanted early , like you, lol. I did put a humidifier in my tent for a week or so but found that when I watered, my RH would stay pretty good so I do not have it in anymore. Running about 50%, Not sure what I am going to do this summer, Maybe de-humidifier.
I have kept notes and pictures along the way. Have been doing tons of research but haven't found anyone yet who grew a Bakerstreet to harvest. That is why your journal was so exciting, I think I will save a journal for m y next grow, I will keep a good eye on your journal for sure.

Those government seeds are a joke 60$ for 4 seeds low thc content. They look like they grow well though. Next time check out one of the many excellent breeders in Canada. I made my last purchase from DrSeeds.

Where I am in Canada it is very dry. I stopped worrying about the humidity and my life has been better off. Here are my plants that are just sitting in the house. As you can see they do not care that the humidity is low.

Watering correctly and following a proper nutrient schedule are going to be the most important things.

I just finished my first grow and what I learned was to be patient and slow down. In the beginning I had never seen an under watered plant. Now quite a few times I have waited till some of the leaves were droopy from lack of water pressure before feeding. Still not “optimal” to do this but much better than over watering.

I bought the government seeds before I knew of other options. I am from SW Ontario and it will not be low RH I will be worried about as it gets very humid here in the summer. Might have to set up a De-Humidifier. Tweed claim that the Bakerstreet Kush THC content to be 19-27%. I wouldn't call that low. I am treating this as a learning project and a new hobby as I retire next year. lol
