InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

This morning's pic post is here!

What did you drop? Sorry if I missed that detail..
Sorry, another Jack Herer to replace the stalled one.
What's in the water?
It's another Jack Herer, to replace the stalled one.
Oh come on Shed! I've got 11 plants going right now....oh, 21 vs 11, nevermind!
You also have land and a playhouse!
Said the guy who's gonna have another sprout come up at the edge of the peat.
LOL! We'll see, but I'm going with the guy with the expansive resume on the subject. :)

I put mine in mason type jelly jars, put a 62% Boveda pack in there, seal it up and put in in one of those cheap thin koozies to keep the light out.
I am trying to steer clear of bovedas and like this round. Like the loud i can achieve without them but involves a little bit more rh meter reading during the cure,
Thanks Kis! If ProMix HP hadn't disappeared from SoCal we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.
It wasn't just Socal Shed was nationwide. I blame Va. If i send you a soil recipe mix will you run it?

Are we sure that's not just part of the mythology like flushing for better tasting buds? Boveda has done some research testing terpenes and the like, and I've got 3-year old buds in jars with B62 that still smell amazing.

Virginia took all the ProMix? That really seems unfair. :(

I appreciate the soil recipe offer Kis, but if I was ever going to blend my own it would be with @Van Stank's recipe. I'm yet to see a home-built soil that consistently turns out plants like his.
I can spell it out here just got to gather my handwritten notes and subs. Holla later La Dad/
Thanks, my daughter just got home from a date so it's time to debrief! Have a great night. :)

It's not just Pro-Mix. I went to the local Home Depot here in TN yesterday AM. There was no peat moss to be found so I can make a new batch of Faux-Mix®. Normally they have over 100 bales available even in the dead of winter. One of the store associates said they hadn't seen any in a long time. Luckily I was able to score a bale at the neighboring Lowe's. Perhaps it has to do with Canada still being in lock down and much of the peat we get here in the states comes from our northern neighbors. Maybe Premier Tech (maker of Pro-Mix) is having problems getting peat too.

Highya ITS, guys,

I have a question. Is there a telltale sigh the ladies give out between the flip and the pistils appearing? I grow outdoors and am trying to nail down just when the flip is (even if it's different for different strains). I'm seeing lovely ladies that look overflowing with lady looks (I don't know how else to say it, lol), but there are no pistils yet. I can only count back from first pistils appearing. I'm hoping someone knows more about what to look for. Thanks! Happy Smokin'

I sent an email to the person in charge of US distribution at ProMix and cc'd my contact, so I'll let you know what I hear!
That Candida with the STS is looking pitifully , I hope the switch over will help it so the seeds can get along with the maturing ... what is the Hydrogen Peroxide for again other that killing germs .
Looks worse today and I doubt it's going to make it. I think that the roots weren't healthy enough to power the plant in the move from 6000 lux to the sun. Too much demand and not enough structural support below.

The H2O2 is to kill any fungus or pests living in the soil. It also gives an oxygen boost as the hydrogen peroxide breaks down into hydrogen and oxygen. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and it's always a last ditch effort.

I'm already looking forward to flowering out another Candida and pollinating it with what I have in the fridge (assuming it's viable)!

Flip outside is June 22nd, as it's the first day that the plants are getting less light than the day before. Most breeders give a harvest window in the fall for outside plants (like late September/early October) because of the slowness of the process.

Other than that, you can figure that most plants show pistils in 10-14 days after 12/12, so you could count backward from pistils, although the plant doesn't get to 12/12 until September 21st, so it's still a slower flowering process than moving to 12/12 in a tent.

Outside is much more loosey goosey in terms of flowering times!

Is there a telltale sign the ladies give out between the flip and the pistils appearing? I grow outdoors and am trying to nail down just when the flip is (even if it's different for different strains).
Just to add to what Shed already explained, I consider first sign of pistil stigmas to be "pre-flower" or "gender reveal". That usually happens very close to summer solstice (6/22), but every plant has its own clock. My two outdoors plants showed their first stigmas on 6/18 and 6/20. They show up below the eventual bud sites as this picture shows.
As of today, neither of my plants are what I would consider "flowering" as the actual bud sites are not yet shooting out pistil stigmas. .. but one of them is very close. I just took this photo to show you what I'm referring to.

Thanks, BL. That's what I was wanting to know! I have males and females planted in a "hill" waiting for a definite gender reveal. Some look like little calyx's while some are too small to call. I know what the book says between male and female. It's not so easy when the plants don't conform to the book standards. Fun sorting through the details!! Happy Smokin'

Good job, Shed, I guess.

In reality, I'm so confused by what all is going on there that there's not much else I can say.

The good, the bad, and the ugly Thursday update! Lots of pics, and some text as well. :)

The good looks like trichome pics of the Spring two, both on flip day 52. Neither of them are really close to done, but it's always fun to see trichs! Leading off with Red Dragon (the ripest):

And the Tin Can Kush:

Here's a close-up of the pollinated(?) bud:

Hope springs eternal for the pollen, because on the seed front...

...let's move on to the bad, in the form of the seeded Candida STS:

It's dead!

Here are the three together:

There are no seeds in the other two, but the one from seed is the sativa pheno so I'll let that finish flowering for the sake of smoking comparison. The other two get dumped this weekend.

And last, on to the ugly, in the form of the split and planted clones. One of these things is not like the other:

The only healthy looking one? It's in recycled ProMix HP. The rest are in Kellogg's Patio Plus potting soil. Have a look at some of the ugly leaf damage:

Doesn't matter if they went into straight soil or 75/25 with perlite, they all look like shit. Wonder what the pH of that soil is right out of the bag?

In the garbage it goes. I will find some other medium and transplant them all again this weekend. Oof!

That's my Thursday, such as it was. No Jack Herer sprout as of this morning in Shoebox, but maybe better news when I get home.

Be well and stay safe. :peace:

Quotes...
The soil mix i mixed up is close to Vans i suspect if you have a copy of his recipe send it in a pm to me if you don't mind. I would like to compare them. Hope the dudes alright. Haven't heard anything from him for awhile.
This is Van's recipe post so you can compare! I heard he's just taking a break for a while but I hope he makes it back sometime. And Grandpa disappeared to Florida. Damn!
Good job, Shed, I guess.

I'm sorry to hear that GDB. :( I keep everything in one journal to try to make it easy to keep track of, but if you're confused I apologize. It's a bunch of plants, dead and alive.
It's not just Pro-Mix.
I don't know about plain peat, but I heard back on the reason there's no ProMix HP to be found:

"PRO-MIX HP is the most popular product for cannabis production. In the last year with COVID, the demand has increased by more than 40% and we have been trying to keep up with demand. As fast as we ship the product, it is sold out at distributors and hydro stores. We recently put some measures in place to increase our production, so you should be able to find product."

I'll start calling hydro stores near me and see if they have any in stock. This attempted transition to soil is killing me!

No need for that Shed. I'm certain that 99.99% of your followers are having no problem.

I'm special. :laughtwo:

That makes sense about supply and demand.
I'm having no problem finding the all-purpose around here. It obviously isn't as popular and we probably have a lot less growers to contend with.

Well I'm glad you at least read the part where I quoted you...that's something!

And you read the last bit! Maybe I should post from the bottom up. :cheesygrinsmiley:

If anyone missed it, the good/bad/ugly post is here!

Well that’s disappointing
It really is, especially after having it stunt the Summer grow. At least I can save the clones, and I guess I can try lowering the soil pH on the Sour G and CB to see if that helps them out.

Oh, here they are this morning...I forgot to post it:

I stripped the lowers on the JH to try to get the tops to grow big enough to clone the VG perlite way.

Maybe you should try something tried and true like Happy Frog or Ocean Forest.
The sales rep at ProMix is looking for someplace local that sells it. The first two places she gave me were at least an hour and a half away! Los Angeles is a pretty spread out place. :)

If she can't find somewhere then one of the two FF soils will be my fallback purchase for certain. Or Sunshine Mix #4? :hmmmm:
