InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

I count from flip if I'm doing it with lighting. Outside I watch for pistils and count that way. But I would note it differently when I post the pics so it's clear.

Why do you separate that way?

Is there a difference?

Well...there is no flip day outside, unless you just start with June 21st for everything. Some folks like to keep closer track. Van tracks both days from flip and days from pistils. Some just count flowering days from pistils. If I'm working with manually flipping I just want to know how many days from the day I changed the lights.

Outside I go with days from pistils since it's all I have to count from!

Now I'm thinking bout a side by side Cherry Bomb vs Cherry Bomb Auto grow. Of course I would only be comparing flowering times and final product.

When you were growing autos you obviously went from first hairs cause you were giving them 24 hours of light?

Do you find that the flowering time from pistils is shorter than from light flip?

Am I wrong to believe that one month growth from an Auto will be superior to a one month from a photo period plant?

I don't count flowering days for autos, just days from sprout. The autos I have are listed that way from the breeder so that's what I have to compare to.

Flowering time for an indoor plant will always be shorter from pistils than flip because it takes a few days at least for pistils to show. Or did I misunderstand your question?

You never know what you're going to get with an auto, but a well behaved one should grow faster than a photoperiod because of its internal clock.

1. I've seen both total times from sprout to harvest as well as minimum days in flower for autos. Straight from Auto Seeds Description for Ultra Lemon Haze Auto, "For optimum yield and maximum psycho-activity (THC content) 90+ days is recommended." Then this later in the same description, "The flowering period will never be shorter than 60 days."

2. Yes, for flowering time (for photo periods) was exactly my point, and why I'm wondering about your method for outside vs. inside. The light change triggers flower, so that 7-10 days for pistils would be somewhat consistent inside or out. Am I missing it?

My autos don't mention flower time, so I don't keep track. If they did, then I'd probably start counting from pistils since there's no other way with an auto!

What's missing is that June 21st is the longest day of the year (Northern hemisphere obv), and the days don't hit 12/12 until Sept 21st. So the triggering of an outdoor photo plant to start pistil production is just the very gradual shortening of the days after June 21st. This is a much slower process from changing the timer in the tent to 12/12 and instantly sending plants into the flowering process.

That's why many breeders list their flowering time both in weeks and "late October" or whatever.

I have always counted from the showing of pistil stigmas - and once joining here I learnt that it’s when they show in the tops that flowering has actually started.

So that’s what I count from indoors as well. Flip day is just a change of light which triggers the plant, but different plants take different amounts of time to actually start flower. I like that Van lists both, it gives an idea of how quick or slow a plant is to get it going.

That’s becoming important to me after experiencing how slow that candida was to start compared to the other plants outside this year. It made a big difference to the grow schedule outside.

Now I’m looking for fast starters! :D

Nothing new today except watering. The veggers are all outside in the chilly grey but the Candidas are under the SP-250. Shite weather for outdoor plants continues.

The Berry Bomb got a gallon of 5.0g water, and the Sour G and Candida top got 4.5g water to runoff. The Bedroom Cookies looks a bit better now that it's not sitting directly under the lights all night, and it's happy with the 5.5g water I gave it at @Archiweedies' suggestion. Still not sure if I'm going to top it or not. I kinda like the Christmas tree shape.

Not happy with the look of the seedlings in the solo cups, so they may go into 1 gallon pots tonight if I get home early enough. I wish I had room to put the Lemon Potion auto into its final 7 gallon home.

Carry on!

Shed gald to hear your baby is diagnosed finally. I babysat a dog with leprosy of all things. Takes time to heal, but it did. Non contagious strain, but i was scared until i knew that lol.

Some friends dogs have had meningitis. It is curable. I think a few had a temporary stent put in to drain the pressure. Oh wait maybe that was encephalitis.

Thinking and praying for you guys. When our dogs health scares the crap out of us, it makes us stronger than we ever knew we were. Hope your wife is able to get some rest and peace. :green_heart::peace:

Okay then. Seeing as lots of my buddies hang out here... is anyone, who is in USA, in need of some geopots? Send me a msg if so. :)
:thanks: Someone should jump all over that!

Thank you NTV! It's an autoimmune meningitis that we're treating with prednisone. Both doggo and wife are doing better. They went for a walk this morning, slowly, but a good distance. And then I drove down to pick them up :).
