InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

What’s up with the Phylos thing? I was just going to order their 4 pack early sexing kit.

:passitleft:
What went down? Should I just go track down the debacle?

First post on the Phylos Instagram page... comments sections is very very long....

In very condensed terms, they have decided to start their own breeding program which is obviously going to be based off the work that all other growers have contributed to them for free

Ok then I found the right IG, phylosbio, but really that’s what almost every other breeder has done haven’t they?

Taken someone else’s work and called it their own? Taken their genetics, crossed it with someone else’s work, and called it their own?

Give me a minute.... Theres a post that might help me explain it better than if I actually tried to explain it on my own lol

One of the better explanations -

“If you’ve read about how GMOs are made you would realize that they look for certain gene sequences and not necessarily certain whole specimens. They can splice those traits into other healthy specimen genetics. Once they find the sequence they are looking for, they have got what they want. It’s very possible this is the start of a GMO breeding project. These suits would have never gotten their hands on a majority of these specific sequences without everyone sending in samples. Doesn’t matter what the names of them are at all. The genes are what they are looking through”

So obviously this leads into questions of patents and all the other stuff that goes along with genetics.... think “round up ready corn” will grow in a desert.... etc etc

Many of the people (growers/breeders) issues is that Phylos from the start stated multiple times that they would never start breeding etc. And regularly pestered them for copies/samples of their work so they could map it.

Anytime you happen to be down this way. I don’t know how the herbs will turn out, but the the DDA plants look amazing, and will more than satisfy any purple fetish you might have.
That's a beauty DrD! One of these days...
From Beez’z cloning method to Age’s Desktop Pencil Holder: A Full Tutorial...
From soup to nuts ;).
Just to give credit where due: @beez0404 is the cloning guy, Agemon is the pencil holder guy, I'm the make your own pipe guy.
A quick update on my Lemon Potion Auto at 19 days:
Damn BL! I hope mine looks vaguely like that at 19 days. I'm sure it will look more like half that size. When are you going to transplant and into how big a pot?
@Pennywise have you been keeping up on the whole Phylos debacle? I was just creeping my usual suspects on the ‘gram and came across it... yikes! Liars and thieves! GMO weed here we come!
When you're in the gene business, everything looks like DNA.

Not sure how that goes with the Data Ownership part of their website data policy statement, but I'm unfamiliar with the company so I'll leave it to those who know to take up the slack.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not much happening today, but I did start to take down the hanging AK-47 this morning before I ran out of time. Not a solid bud in there. We'll see what it weighs and how it smokes...

Sunny and warm today. All the clones needed water this morning, so I gave them 5g of MC because I was watering the rest of the veggers. Loads of transplanting to do this weekend :).

Catch y'all later, hope you're doing well!

Again, I don’t want to pretend I’m a knowledgeable individual on the subject... i had heard of Phylos and checked them out, but never really went any further than that...

but when people blew up, I just read anything I could find on the subject because I’m curious and have had this fear of genetically modified cannabis in the future, which will completely ruin the health benefits of the plant if fallen into the wrong hands (cough Monsanto cough)... and in particular I found this wording (it’s actually on the link you posted :high-five:) to be rather suspicious

“Therefore, by using Phylos’s products and services, each customer grants Phylos the right to use, improve, copy, distribute, analyze, and transform the Genetic Data generated from each test.
This grant is a nonexclusive, transferable, royalty-free, fully-paid, and perpetual license, and allows us to grant sublicenses. This means, in part, that we can engage and allow third-party strategic partners or service providers to access and similarly use the data (under Non-Disclosure Agreements) to assist us in our work.
In addition to creating analysis reports, we also may use Genetic Data for activities such as creating the Phylos Galaxy, conducting product development, and other business activities, and improving our tests, results, and services.”

Sounds like it’s been their plan all along.

I've been wanting to transplant for a few days now, but have been too busy. I hope to do it after this weekend (Easter dinner for the extended family) -- maybe Monday. I will probably move them into 20 gallon fiber pots. They are already hardened off and lights are matching sunrise/sunset, so they're just waiting on me. Gotta get my act together... and start my journal too.

So I didn’t forget about that buried stem root check. This was planted after about 6weeks veg in a one gal. At transplant I used lots of mycorrhizae powder and I buried the stem about 4-5 inches, including lower nodes that had been pruned. After harvest, I dug down about an inch only to find this:

Plenty roots :thumb:
@Amy Gardner I forgot to say this last week, when you posted: Thank you! I'll be transplanting soon, so down a couple more inches they will go. :thanks:

I think companies expect people to skip over the fine print so they can just get to what they want.

Ya the CEO is quite the salesman apparently... DJ short and second generation farms, amongst others, donated seeds for testing, etc etc... told them straight to their face they’d never do this and we’re doing it to protect breeders/growers rights and IP....yada yada... now they’re gonna grow those donated seeds for their own breeding purposes. Unethical business practice to the core.

Sorry for hijacking your thread again shed! Lol Just trying to spread some cannabis industry awareness!

Use mycorrhizae powder! spray the stem lightly so some powder sticks to it (i lightly spray the root ball for this purpose too). And i mix a lot of the myco powder with soil that goes around the stem as well.

It certainly does! I feel for all those folks that are feeling ripped off and angry, but it also seems like folks shoulda been suspicious of this from the outset. If you were a breeder sending the your stuff I’d think you’d want to look at their mission statement pretty carefully. But geeez eh?! Trust no-one. :(

OK I shouldn’t dive any deeper into this... but that granting of rights quoted above seems in direct conflict with this from their data policy
Data Ownership
Every customer retains FULL OWNERSHIP AND OWNERSHIP RIGHTS in the samples they submit, including:
• The genetic data generated from the tests;
• The plants and any plant matter submitted; and
• Any current or future rights in plant protection of the varieties.

I’m sure there is a legal contract law precedent that will protect folks from unconscionable conduct - particularly if a party to the contract was misled. I’m sure this is going to go on for sometime...

In Amy we trust :ciao:

[It just occurred to me that that reference might not translate to Australian, so let me explain.]
 You remain ignorant of the pervasive impact of US culture on this young nation! I have seen 100times more American films than Australian ones and the same goes for TV shows. There would be very little culture shock at all if I came to visit you - except for maybe the scale of things (everything is huge over there!). We have UK influence as well - but in the mainstreams and popular culture realms the influence of the ‘states is paramount.

SO yes - I did realise you were referring to me as God :meditate:
