InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Everything is lookin fine and dandy here, Shed! Every time you thin them down, I always wonder if leaving all those fans might contribute to wpm or botrytis issues down the road? Maybe not, I know outdoor is different, I’m just thinking about airflow. I’m glad the JH made such a great recovery, curious to see what the mrs thinks. (maybe just an - it gets me high, lol)

Monday update? Monday update!

A few before and after pics of the rather complicated thinning I had to do on my Summer grow on flip day 20. First up is the Chiquita Banana:

And here is the Sour G, trimmed and tied up!

I tied it into a rectangle so it fits through the shed door rather neatly now. :)

Let me explain what made this a complicated process. Read it if you're interested or skip it if you're not:

Normally, I would thin my plants a week before flip with something close to a standard lollipop. I trim off all the lower weak growth (branches and leaves) to drive new growth to the top of the plant where the big flowers will grow. This time I did not get a chance to do that. They had already gotten too big before I flipped and I didn't want them any bigger. And I wanted them flowering ASAP.

This left me with a lot of small branches and tons of larf on day 20 that I normally wouldn't have to deal with. It also left me with a great conundrum, and that was how to take off the larf and not take off so many fans that the plant will feel the need to replace them - which I definitely don't want it to do in flower. It should be expending its energy growing flowers, not vegetation!

So what I did was strip off the flowers and leave the lower branches intact. Here is an example of what I did over and over again:

No flowers left at all, fans remain.

[I did take off a couple of the lower branches entirely on both plants to make sure it wasn't too dense. I will need to spray them for pests and PM, so I need to be able to get to the interior.]

It took a really long time to do both plants, and the Chiquita Banana (from @Weed Seeds Express) was already so sticky (three weeks in) that by the time I was done I felt like I had spent 3 hours trimming. Dayum!

I am sure that these two will far from #nolarf at harvest, but what are you gonna do? Just spend more time trimming I reckon!

In other news, my Candida mother got aerial bombed by a lemon and lost a branch:

I keep the mother plants in partial shade, which means they are under one of the lemon trees. :)

Finally, I took a closeup of one of the Candida flowers I pollinated.

We'll see!

I hope you all had a great weekend. :ciao:
Wow shed! Amazing grow! What a plant!

Thursday update, where I supercrop the Jack Herer from @Weed Seeds Express!

I'm sure you have all ready my thread on supercropping, but since I did some today I thought I would drop a few pics here.

There are a lot of benefits to this technique and one of them is that you can do it without making the plant wider. I did that to two opposite branches, and I also cropped sideways to fill in some empty space.

Here is one of the branches I supercropped outward:

Had I pulled this branch down to keep it level with the top of the plant, it would have added width...width I don't want!

It's hard to show the crops I did sideways unless you get a top view:

The crops at 9 and 5 are the sideways ones. There were no lower branches coming up in those gaps, so I filled them in. The ones at 7 and 2 are straight out. You can see they don't make the plant wider than the widest branches below.

Here is a side shot:

Normally, outside growers are less concerned about flat canopies and plant width, but since I pick these up and carry them inside every night and out every morning, it means I have to treat them more like those folks growing in tents would.

I hope your week is ticking along smoothly! Personally I am really looking forward to trimming the Summer grow...it's outta hand.

Thanks Tommy! So many crossed fingers it's a wonder anyone can still type here. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thank you double H! It's not so dense that I'm worried about humidity causing issues. The PM I get is just from the environment and ends up on leaves that are completely unobstructed. And if memory serves, almost all the botrytis I've had was related to caterpillars. So far so good on that score!

Oh, and yes...that will be the response to the JH from my missus. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Amazing Shed!!
:thanks: WSE! Great genetics goes a long way. :)

Greetings of a Wednesday all, and here is the mini-update...

The Sour G cuttings in perlite, 22 days post snip:

One with nice roots and one with nothing at all! I'll plant the rooted one tonight and leave the other one just to see how long it takes to come around.

Once the planted one gets a good root system I will transplant it, wait a week, and then start spraying it with STS. The idea is to use the pollen to make seeds on the first clone I have (second from bottom right here). I don't have any more Sour G seeds and I don't want to have to keep a mother around if I don't have to.

In non-photographic news, the flowering Summer grow is starting to smell van nuys!

I hope all is well with you, and continue to stay safe.

Nice roots.

Is the one without roots mushy at all?
I sometimes get a cut or two that go mushy while the other cuttings are fine.
Not sure why. Probably some pathogen. Who knows?

Highya ITS,

I would think the cutting with no roots will come around. Doesn't make sense she'd look like a new cutting that many days after, and not grow roots, eventually. I think she'll keep working. Happy Smokin'

Thanks Bode! I have to say I was surprised to find one rooted and one bare since they look identical topside. I'll leave it sitting around just to see if it roots eventually, but I don't think I'll have any need for it except as a gift. :)

Thursday update, where I plant the Sour G from yesterday's update:

Easiest SaugaView® ever!

I sprayed it with citric acid this morning for some PM on one of the leaves in case it looks a little wet. I also watered it with 2.25g/gallon MC to start it off. Next watering will probably be 4.5g like all the other vegging plants get.

It does look like it's flowering but it's been 24/0 since it was cut, so I'm guessing it's just showing me it's still a female. And on Sunday I'll start to harden it off to the Sun.

Your plants look much happier post prune!:welldone:

 I hate when that happens.

Been there, done that....
One with nice roots and one with nothing at all!
If you were a baseball player, you'd be batting .500 and win the batting title. :p

Thanks BL! It looks like I have a phosphorus deficiency on the Chiquita Banana:

I'm still struggling to find the right formula for my plants in flower, so I bumped the P with today's watering and I'll see if that helps.
I hate when that happens.
I know right?
Been there, done that....
Yeah, but your bowl trimmer makes larf a Breez to trim!
If you were a baseball player, you'd be batting .500 and win the batting title.
I've used that line on my kids when they were young, but I'd go all the way down to 1 out of 3! :)
