InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

I've already wished you a happy new year, @InTheShed. But I don't believe I've congratulated you on your JOTM win.

Who could have seen that coming? Well, Stevie Wonder & Jose Feliciano, just to name a few! :Rasta:
Wow....a Jose Feliciano reference......not something I hear everyday. I got introduced to him on a deployment back in 1991' if I remember correctly. Happy New Year GDB! Hope you and the family are doing well brother!

Highya ITS,

I wanted to tell you that I thought the 90 PPM pics looked like they're trying to change over, as the Celt mentioned. The other two looked female still.

I hope you come up with an alternative for smoking. Happy Vapin'

For anyone who missed today's plant pics, that post is here!

Thanks Bode, me too! It's a bit disconcerting to hear folks coughing in the house these days.

I'll give it at least another couple of weeks before calling this a wash, so maybe I should flip at least one of the other Candidas just in case I do get something. Since I'm shite at harvesting pollen I need a plant in flower at the same time.

Thoughts?
This isn't as easy as I want it to be. :)
Monday update of the GA3 sprayed Candida reversal attempt, and some news on the upcoming vape carts/QWET experiment!

Let's start with the pics. Here are the three Candidas on flip day 25, 30 days after the first GA3 spray:

And here is what many of the stems look like for some reason:

Little green bumps under the skin. Aliens?

Here are some macro pics of the spots where we would normally look for signs of gender.

Let's talk about the whole QWET-to-cart experiment I'm working on (parallel to @StoneOtter). While I wait for some vape products to use on the back end and chat with otter about what he's found, I thought I would reach out to MadDab in Alaska. He works for a cannabis concentrate business there and knows the process end to end.

I asked him why Otter is finding that once the alcohol evaporates from the cart it makes it impossible to draw through the vape. It turns out that the QWET process as we do it ends up with sugars and plant waxes in the end product, even if we start with everything in the freezer. In order to end up with just live resin, the temperature for the process needs to be at -40ºF, which is something I can't do. And like me, he doesn't trust what's in the various liquidizers out there in terms of lung safety.

His suggestion was to start with BHO (butane hash oil), and dissolve that in QWET, winterize that for at least 24 hours, filter twice, and then cook off the alcohol. Do I want to start down the BHO road? Who knows? I don't!

Seriously, I don't want to go down that road. I wonder if rosin from a press would create the same issues in a cart... :hmmmm:
Anyway, that explains the reason it's hard to do from QWET at home.

The 1 gallons are great for small plants and mothers. I don't think I have a need for smaller since I start in solo cups and go to 1g from there. I hope 2021 is off to a great start for you and your fam and your knee!

Thanks Crazy, very sweet of you! Happy new year to you and your wonderful family, and update your thread with all the cool things you've been laser-cutting :).
That explains why I have to clean the last 10% or so out of the cart in the end. The smoke value seems to diminish. That's with liqiudizer. So are you thinking to leave a little alcohol to keep it viscus, and processes(winterize) it per MadDabs advice?

That's when I put the joints down and pick up the vape. We're no different here. I'm down to one jay a week maybe, the rest is vape and I'm not happy to say edibles aren't a big seller for the daily grind. Having a clean cart filled is definitely a luxury Shed. Nothing yet here. Maybe MadDab's got it. Oh, how cold is all that dry ice keeping the oodles of vaccine chilled? That stuff's got to be everywhere soon.

Promising is always promising Celt! How long would you say before I should flip the first of my recipients, knowing that I have three possible plants to flower? And if this doesn't work, that just means I have more Candida flowers!
Looking at that 90ppm plant, and coming to the conclusion she is likely contrary, (did you name her Mary?) I would flip the pollen catcher early next week. That will give the donor about 3 weeks to mature and start producing. At 3 weeks post flip, she should have a goodly number of pistils ready :)

Thanks, I had no idea! Funny that Everclear hasn't been sued out of their 190 proof stuff.

everclear 190 is actually a branded name. the 190 does not refer to the proof. they made the change a few years back. the 190 also does not appear on all versions. look closely at the bottles, the actual proof is usually miles lower in most markets due to legal restrictions. everclear makes something like 6 versions.

bacardi 151 is restricted to a few markets for the same reason. you can still source it outside of north america. it's still produced in the dominican or haiti or both.

you're gonna need a vacuum purge for most cartridge vape oils. without a vacuum purge you will trap some of the solvents no matter what you use, and it will solidify to a degree, or be compromised somewhat.

old school cherry and honey oils were made with lab level vacuum chambers to finish them. that's how they attain and maintain a stable liquid state. i do something similar with a home vacuum sealer, but it does not have the ability to create a vacuum that deep.

no one makes the oils that way any longer. it is not that safe for home projects, and was tricky even with lab type gear.

Does this leave me with nothing but Hot Tub Time Machine now?
Congrats on getting to some of those long awaited movies! Idiocracy is the only other one I would suggest.

The Candida project looks hopeful! Good luck and I hope at least one of them pans out for you. I might need a new seed if I can’t get my candidas straightened out!

I know right?

I don't think I want to leave alcohol in there, so what I'm going to try is:
Oven dry the bud
Freeze everything
30 second QWET
Strain
Winterize 24+ hours
Strain
Distill
Evap
Syringe
Cart
Evap
Vape (anagram for evap!)

We'll see how that goes.
Oh, how cold is all that dry ice keeping the oodles of vaccine chilled? That stuff's got to be everywhere soon.
I think that dry ice is almost impossible to find these days, as it's all in the vaccine freezers!

:thanks: Celt, will do!

I can't look at the bottles as they don't sell them in CA! That's why I'm going with 120 proof and double distilling before I even start.

According to MadDab (who works in a commercial extraction lab), it's the waxes and sugars that causes the solidification in the carts (they don't vape and end up being a larger and larger percentage of what's in there), and without access to vacuums or hydrocarbon extraction, extreme winterization at around -65º would be the way to go. I haven't got that option either, so I'll try what I outlined above and see if I'm getting close.
Sounds like a lot going on with the extraction and pollen maker , I hope we /you get the end product to produce FM . Plants look well stringy LOL
Lots going on seems to be my thing! I'd love to simplify some day :). And those stringy plants are a result of the GA3 spray. If I ever get a lettuce pheno I'm thinking of hitting it with a few days of GA3 to see what happens!
Congrats on getting to some of those long awaited movies! Idiocracy is the only other one I would suggest.

I can always send you a clone, but I have no doubt you will sort yours out and have more clones of your own. :high-five:

Adding Idiocracy to the list...

That Candida seems to be highly transition-resistant!
Have you seen Mars Attacks? Very recommendable fun.
Thanks Amy! It's no wonder Candida seeds are a rare commodity now. Even MMG can't figure it out anymore. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Mars Attacks...added!

used to make something called ice oil here. sounds like the same process. it's finished outside, you need 3 - 5 days consecutive at -50c. that was never a challenge here in january, until about a decade ago. home freezers don't get cold enough.

global warming is real.

i know some folk a bit north who still pull off a batch or two every year.

finished product is like cross between a wax and honey oil. the wax is the impurities your friend speaks of. it's like the hard honey you spread with a knife. looks identical.

the old honey and cherry oils do not solidify but do have impurities. they are made with ether, both liquid and pressurized gas, and finished in a vacuum. commercial production will not touch it. it's not for the faint of heart (kaboom !).

When I lived in the dorm in upstate NY, we used to squeeze our groceries in the gap between the window and the screens. Had to let the milk thaw out first though, but it worked well for all the frozen stuff.

Not -50º on either scale though!

If I can get my hands on dry ice (figuratively of course) I might give that a try if the first go doesn't work well enough. Once the Pfizer vaccine runs out there should be plenty!

dry ice is still used to make "ice" oil. oddly - it makes it too cold, too fast. past a certain point everything just freezes and locks in place. but it can be done. i think your friend knows what he's on about with the -65c temp frame.

i'm not sure what his life experience amounts to if he doesn't know the honey or cherry oil process though.
