In The Lab

Yup yup, Docs gear is in our opinion, the only way to do soil grows. Our 1st grow was with FF, 2nd and 3rd and every future grow is going to be in Docs gear, period or we ain't going to grow in soil. Everyone here in the HB soil will go out of there way to ensure your successful and you may not get the same using the brand X stuff.

Good luck on your grow and get in Docs gear as soon as you can, you'll thank yourself for doing so, plus, meet some awesome people :-)

Blessed Buds our friend and be well :passitleft:

I'm a prime example of a guy that had zero knowledge of growing and managed to do pretty good with Doc's kit on my very first grow. I harvested this plant today.

Harvested that plant today, and I bet your trimming hand is pretty tired. :)
Have a smoke to manage the pain :passitleft:

Great morning and a big warm welcome to the Mag. Parathrax! You have stumbled apon a very cool place. 420 Mag is by far, the coolest , most rewarding weed forum on the web. Doc Bud's 'kit' is a method that's been used many hundreds , maybe thousands of times with extreme , repeated success by dozens and dozens of experienced and, or totally new growers.
The growers around these parts are mostly growing in soil , and of those most are in Doc's gear .This neighborhood is full of growers who will help you whenever the help is needed and or welcomed. They are very passionate about their grows and are enjoying some of the best grows of their life, right here , on 'the Mag'. Please feel free to get around and visit some of the other DBHBB (Doc Bud's High Brix Blend)grow journals. Please enter them with a smile and good attitude while leaving any ego at the door. Do these things and we promise ya ,...you won't wanna leave. Welcome to 420 Mag .:welcome::420::high-five:

This should be a sticky:thumb:

some results of CAT drenching plants in various stages of growth grown with plants in flower

Plants in growth-some yellowing of several lower leaves, dependent on size of pots and plants; smaller pots (HB soil, outdoor grown) had more leaves % wise affected since roots are less established and less plentiful in less soil containing puts.

Plants in flower, also some yellowing, much fewer leaves affected, if any, results as expected- increase in terps, trichs,- the GOOD stuff ;)

Question. The big ten gallon plants are due for recharge and cat drench. Do those happen together? Top dress the recharge then top water the cat drench? Thanks

That will work fine! I find if you veg in your final containers then flip a couple weeks later, you can really put in the recharge anytime in the first couple weeks of flower. If you transplant and flip the same day, around week 3 is perfect for recharge. Using CAT at the same time will not hurt anything. The recharge takes a couple weeks or so to become active.

I do pretty much same way. I've flipped right at transplant, but have settled on transplanting, then a week later flip, then a week later recharge, then a week later cat1.

Hi Doc-
I'm excited to make my first ever grow a DBHBB grow. Please help me with a few starting points as I'm still way back in 2014 of your journals and want to get this thing moving along.
I'm about to order all the materials. Does the latest recipe still have the casings as just optional? Regarding pot sizes and shapes, should I still refer to "What you will need" from pg5 or has that since been tweaked? Airpots>smart pots>normal? FWIW this will be indoors in a 4x4 tent.
Do you foresee any issues with cooking and storing soil in an apartment?
Thanks!

You're good to go on all counts! The latest instructions can be found in a link in the middle of my signature below. I highly recommend the worm castings but it can be done without, although the first crop won't be that great. I've never tried it.....

My temps are 82 freedom units day and 77 f night. That doesn't seem to be too cold night temps to me. For the rescue drench I should do that before the second cat drench? But wait for it to dry out first as normal so likely in 3-4 days?

Questions for you guys. Some people have suggested that they let their drenches "sit" for 15 minutes after mixing. What is the point of that? Seems to me they are best mixed right when stiring is first completed. Why would you wait and let it "sit"? What's the benefit?

Already takes a while to fill my jugs with RO water, don't want to add an unnecessary 15 minute "sit" for nothing.

Next question: can the mixes be done like this: add water, add GE then stir, then add tea and stir and then use? Or do I need to mix tea Seperate? Seperate seems like it would be very difficult to get it evenly distributed.

Thanks

Great mornin to ya OG! Ya with the mixing and stuff! Do as you are ...that's totally OK. The reason some let theirs sit is to give the Tea a chance to "wake up" is all. So, do it like this Ok mix up your kit liquids in your watering can but have a cup of water on the side where you can let the Tea sit a few min's.....just a few is all that's necessary OK. After the Tea has sat a few ,..then just pour it into your watering can with everything else all mixed in ...and apply to your pots. This is how i do it. No need to let it sit after you mix it up..that was just to let the Tea 'steep' for a few min's. ..got it bud! cheers eh!:high-five:

Hi OG, exactly what Duggs said. Also I notice you mentioned

"Already takes a while to fill my jugs with RO water, don't want to add an unnecessary 15 minute "sit" for nothing"

I too use to fill my buckets with RO water and use immediately, but I noticed my plants would lag for a day or more. This was due to the temp of the freshly produced RO water, which was 58-60*F....pretty much halted the biota in the soil for a day or more. Now I stock pile RO water in buckets so I have 4-5 covered black buckets full at all times and most importantly the temps are at ~70-75*F. I am learning that it's all these little things that add up....that are the difference between good and exceptional. I'm shooting for exceptional!

Cheers!
