Icemud's 2018 Journal: Pine Tar Kush Pheno Hunt & More

Sorry you're disappointed with the Monkey Balls, Bro. Hopefully they grow you some strong meds!

I just popped four PTK seeds to hopefully do some crosses, too. One of the PTK's (#3) sprouted upside down, with the taproot sticking straight in the air and shell rooted in the soil. I flipped her over and she did sprout, but she's a pretty screwy looking seedling. Checkout PTK #3 in this post:

Tales From The Krip!

Did you see anything like that with any of your PTK's? How about with anything else?

Wow that is crazy!!! its like siamese twins or something! Your NY joke was funny too. The only oddities I had with the Xmas Bud was that one plant had very bad leaf varigation in the beginning and deformed "spiky" leaves. One of the other phenos had a odd leaf mutation where the middle blade was about 1/10 of the size it should have been.

I trust CSI genetics 100%, glad you found the real McCoy!

Yea I watched them do this seed increase on IG and was always waiting for them to release the PTK for sale... up until now they have only been giving 5 packs as freebies, so I bothered them until they made it available for purchase...LOL. They have quite a few strains that I will pick up in the future. They have some really nice gear!

Grab the Chemdog 91 quickly, there’s not many left!

I was looking at that, and also the Uzbakistan landrace they have... actually there were about 5 that I was really interested in, but I was good this time and only ordered the PTK..

I know the 3 freebies they have of the OG Kush x 91 Chem I will be probably breeding with my hazeman's astrokush (Pre-98 Bubba Kush x Blowfish ) crossed with TopDawg Seeds Tre StarDawg.)

Since the astrokush is already from a Chem variety mostly, then I think it would breed fairly well with the OGx chem 91 :)

Pine Tar Kush. I imagine this was the stuff making people see Gnomes and Bigfoot in the mountains back in the day.
Persistence pay off.

Haha! well if it wasn't there probably were some shrooms that were :) lol I know I have seen a few gnomes in my days :) lol

I have a couple of Triangle Kush crosses from CSI I’m really looking forward to. Should be nice OG type phenos in there.

Yea I was tempted to pick up some Triangle Kush x 88g13HP the the other day, but I've been good lately and not splurging on too many seeds. Already have enough seeds for life...LOL

Hey everyone,

Here is a photo update of the Deep Chunk Project.

Today is day 40 of flowering from the flip.

So the project is going well, and I have to say, for having over 10 different strains in the tent they all are looking fairly good. Its really tough to keep that many different genetics happy as some like more water, some like less, some like heavy nutrients, some like them lighter... so I'm trying to split the middle and make them all happy and its tough. Overall things are going well for the most part. My GDP is being pissy as usual so its not very happy but still hoping to get some beans out of it since I have not bread it with anything, and putting it with another indica sounds like a good plan :)

All of the others are also somewhat happy, some are more than others.

Well here are the photos:

The Black Cherry Soda
Curious question are the Deep Chunk Seeds from Hazeman? They look like they would make nice long buds if you weren't growing them for seed. Most sellers of Deep Chunk say this plant would have a wide range of smells. Are they getting fragrant? I could imagine they are competing with a few stinky plants.

Hey HiddenGrow! Yea the Deep Chunk seeds are from Hazeman. He sells them by the name "monkey balls". He also sells a strain called purple monkey balls, but those are completely different. The Monkey Balls are Deep Chunk.

I asked him what the difference are and he told me the Purple Monkey balls are from Snowhigh Seeds.
Monkey Balls were a select pheno of Tom Hill's deep chunk.

I have also read they have a variety of terpene profile possibilities as well. Quite honestly the terpenes are not very strong on any of the 5 female Deep chunks so even if I do a rigorous bud rub with my fingers and them smell them, Its really hard to even smell anything. Only 2 of them have really any distinguishable smell which is kind of an old school OG kush type funk but its really not strong at all. I'm hoping as they finish out over the next few weeks and they dry the smell will come out more. They definitely are not very "worked" or homogenous as there were at least 3 different sizes out of the few seeds I popped, at least 3 distinct bud structures and the only trait that seems to be shared is the resin forming on the edges of the sugar leaves and a bit of a purpling on that area as well as a slight sugar leaf curl which they all seem to be forming.

I heard there is a chocolate, coffee, fruity and skunky pheno so I'm really hopping for a chocolate or coffee but only time will tell. Right now the smell reminds me of some mexi brick from the 90's... like that green semi skunky smell, with a little kush mixed in.

Gonna be some really good crosses this run!

Yea I am really excited for this run, mostly because its the 1st seed project that involves my skywalker og, and GDP and really hoping to get a good amount of seeds off of those.

Also excited because since the deep chunk seems to be rather unworked and quite a bit of variety in it, it leaves a lot of excitement for future phenotype hunts on the progeny :)

What @Pennywise said!!! It's tough keeping a few strains happy in flower I'm definitely impressed with the health of your garden!
:bravo:

I appreciate the good vibes :) yea its definitely hard to keep like 10 strains all happy with a single feeding regiment. My secret is I try to focus on the unhealthiest plants need and adjust my feedings based on that. Some strains like my GDP, Harlequin and Skywalker OG just seem to be cranky all the time, so I try to make them happy and the rest seem to fall into place. Some other strains like black cherry soda, gorrilla glue and trainwreck seem to be happy with almost any type of feeding so those are the ones I don't worry about too much.

GDP really has been my worst nemesis, and also one of my favorite strains which frustrates me. It alwasy does well until I clone it/top it and then it always just goes sour... I really don't understand why it just does not like to be messed with.

So I have some really good news... When I ordered the Pine Tar Kush from CSI Humboldt seeds, the package I received was short by 5 seeds. Immediately I contacted CSI through their website as well as through IG to let them know of the error. I have to say I am extremely pleased with their attentiveness to the issue, and customer service. They immediately apologized for the error and send the replacement seeds out the next day. I just received them today which was really fast. I couldn't be more pleased...

And then I opened the packages, yes packages... I don't know if they made an error, or sent me 2 packages on purpose, but I opened both. Inside each package was a 5 pack of PTK IBL seeds, an 11 pack of PTK IBL seeds, and a 3 pack of feminized "The big Fu(k UP" which is labeled as "sour diesel or hashplant x Humboldt snow"

How awesome is that!!! So I actually was shorted by 5 and they sent me 32 PTK seeds to replace it!!! So excited!!! Plus with giving me some bonus seeds called "the big fu(k up" really was humorous, and I had to wonder if that was intentional... if it was it was a nice touch.

Anyhow, I have to say that CSI Humboldt really took care of me for the error and their customer service was top notch!!! Now I wish I had room to pop these PTK seeds but I will have to wait until the deep chunk is done... but you better believe that I will be running them right after the sour grapes :)

Wow that's awesome. I grew the CSI Mendocino Underdog and it was super tasty! Glad they hooked you up that's really cool of them. Did you get seeds directly from their website?

Yea I ordered on their website and followed the rest of the instructions after placing the order. They don't accept credit cards at the moment.

Dude! Score! :high-five:

That was awesome of them to hook you up like that! Nothing like getting a major gift to make up for a mistake! CSI is legit. Ween had good luck with the strains he ran. i had my Mendo purple urkle which was super purple but it did not grow how I wanted it to. It grew at the speed of urkle, which is to say slooowww. I have more I need to try and run at some point but I am more interested in running either the bubba's girl or Slo flo.

Anyways back on track, it is great that you wanted their PTK and your persistence paid off in a major way bud!
