Hyena's Never-Ending Adventures In Growing

Merry Christmas to you and yours, HM!

Calling all blue hyena seed holders.....

We are going to title a thread called the blue hyena 500

If you have a blue hyena courtesy of mr hyena merica you may plant it on February first.

We'll come up with some more stipulations when we create the thread. Right now I'm curious to see how many people wanna join in on the blue hyena runs

Sounds like a wicked hybrid to start with. I too am curious how many folks will run them. Always cool to see the same strain being grown in a variety of grow systems. Timing is almost right as my plants are mid flower.

I just got back in town and haven't been able to access the internet for a week. Wow, what cool stuff!

I appreciate your idea about a Hyena thread, Rooster.

I'm in.

I haven't been able to see them yet so I'll do an update tomorrow.

Probably a chop report...!

Peace, Hyena

Here goes.

The latest (and last) PROJECT 26 UPDATE!

The beans hit the rooter plugs on September 1st. Today it's December 31st and here is the last official portrait of the garden that resulted...

20171231_071135.jpg

121 total days from a standing start. I think it will be a bumper crop and I think it's ready.

I'm not unhappy. :thumb:

After a week away, it's evident the extremely low outdoor temperatures (averaging a high of under 10 F for the entire week) impacted the grow a bit. The high was only 65 in the grow room and even with the little heater nightly lows were in the 50s. I can see necrosis in the leaves beginning in every sector. The gradual dilution of the nute solution over the last three weeks (with a final switch to nearly plain water just before I left) has also made them tighten up and turn on the pretty hues.

None of that hurts anything, it's time for it, and this was probably the best final week I could have asked for, cool and steady. Looking at the trichs this morning it seems like everyone is ready unless I want couch lock weed. Some cloudys and still mostly clear which means the better side of the buzz IMHO.

Some final images of just a few of the PROJECT 26 stars...

FIRST, that main Amnesia cola on the giraffe pheno is the absolute winner of them all.

20171231_071419.jpg

This cola is over two feet tall and thick everywhere. You can see MOAC in the background and it was a close second but for sheer majesty nobody else comes close. For second place, MOAC is a worthy bud as well, in the above image it is several feet behind the tall Amnesia and so it's harder to see how freaking thick and chunky it truly is, the damn bud will weigh who-knows-what when finished.

In all the three Amnesias, grown in two buckets, are amazing plants...

Here is the front one, which wasn't as tall but produced a nice stand of spectacularly nuggy and frosty chunk buds with cool deep red-orange hairs.

20171231_071712.jpg

Plus the others which were so much taller...and they all smell intoxicating, musky and sweet. I can't wait to see if they smoke like they look and smell.

Blueberry however seems to be the most productive overall, and might win the prize for production...

The four Blueberrys spread out and took over whole left side and middle of the neighborhood. Like a gang they pushed poor Jack Herer and my Hyenas out to the suburbs. They hogged the light of the GROWSTAR GS1000 LED light that was tested in this grow and developed this thick, chunky look.

I chopped some of this off before I left a week ago since it had clogged out the whole left side in response to the side lights, literally so many branches were falling below the lights due to their own weight that I chopped and trimmed 8-10 of them and when I looked this morning there was not even a dent in the hedge that I can notice. So Blueberry is really, really a good bang for the buck.

I hoped it was also very stony since I've heard some say it isn't as strong as other strains...

Here's just one of the dried buds I snipped a week ago.

I have been smoking this throughout the morning and it's ASAF. Look at the frost on this. Blueberry. GETS AN A PLUS, BABY!!

I will miss the murderer's row through the middle and right of this wonderland. Full of memorable chunkers. mostly Amnesias and Jack Herers...

So many of these buds look amazing it's hard to even imagine a favorite but the MOAC and her sisters look especially tempting. As soon as later today I will be slaughtering them one by one...oh God I can't wait. The moment you pull it all down and realize the reward for all that hard work, time, discipline, and tender care. I can't wait.

It is somewhat of a shame I can't get back there to do better pictures. I literally can't get to them and I wish I could see them under something other than a strong HPS bulb because they probably have such beauty, but because of their location I just can't reveal it. I look forward to seeing them up close at kill time.

Here's just one I call The Chalice

Every variety is sticky as it gets. Again, I think there's a lot of value in cooler temps for just general frosty development.

The first month the temps reached 95+ for stretches, when these were just getting started and under a foot tall so early heat is simply not as impactful as late heat, which basically totally destroys the flavor of a grow.

So, for my setup the best 4 months to grow is September through December. I am hoping January-April will be just as good and I can beat the attic heat that starts in mid-May. From now on I'm probably leaning towards taking the summer months off. Unless I figure out a reliable AC fix forget it.

But for now this one has been one of my favorites ever.

Finally, about three weeks ago I spotted a couple teensy bananas on one of the very front Blueberry buds, and I just pinched them off. This morning I checked the same bud and here's two more...

20171231_071903.jpg

I'm not worried that any of this crop will have a seed issue, there's literally no other indication anywhere but who knows. And who cares? Nature gives us gifts when we least expect them. A few random seeds to try in future grows provide that spice of unpredictability that makes this all so fun!

So all that remains is for my wife to leave for awhile so I can go up there and get busy chopping. Might happen today or more likely over the next few days. Then I will recon the room, remove the root balls, fill with more fresh perlite and if nothing seems too stinky then just plant the next round.

The next round...?! I just realized I have given ZERO thought to what I'll even grow next! And such a seed bank at this point, wow, I have to get really high and crack open the vault to make those choices. Maybe I'll put up some options and take suggestions again. That worked out pretty well this time I think.

So we end the year, and PROJECT 26. I want to thank everyone who stops by and especially all of you who comment and post. All are welcome. I appreciate you. This is a learning forum so I try to pass along some general knowledge as we go...we all think we know everything so forgive me if I sometimes sound too preachy...and if I have been able to amuse you a little along the way more the better.

And have I ever showed you my picture? No? Well, to end the year here it is:

I have Mexican-Irish heritage, I guess. Apparently my lungs are Mexican. :thedoubletake::ganjamon:

Happy New Year.

Peace, Hyena

Great grow, HM! Pretty special Amnesia cola there. Should be in a hall of fame. Looks like you're in for a Happy New Year!! I hope that is the case, and a Happy New Year to all who visit.
