Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

I smoke my Glookies (GG#4 x GSC Thin Mint) as my afternoon med after work (or White Widow) I’m the opposite spectrum reaction wise. I tend to be more energetic and focused for the first hour before lulling into a comfy sedation. Beautiful nuggs

Thanks, EhCndGrower. I will have to check the GG out more.

GG4 should serve you well

It seems like a good start.

The sample buds of the GG I took a few days ago are now dried to 63% so I made an exception and rolled one up for, "science". I got a decent buzz but don't feel the same couch lock feeling I get with NL so far which is what I was hoping for.

For some reason, I took pics with one of my NL and one of my dried GG buds. The NL seems frostier but the GG is showing more sugar leaves so they may be closer than it looks.

They are both beautiful. So far, I've only ever smoked. But I am definitely going to pursue tinctures and gummies, and butter, and, and.. If you don't mind, I'm curious why you don't smoke?

It’s Grandpa Tokins cut so it’ll be good smoke.

Yes, I remember it was Grandpa Tokins' cut so I'm interested to see how she turns out. I think I remember you telling me it was kind of lanky, unlike mine that seems to have a traditional Indica structure. Looking forward to see how she turns out.

Thank you, BooWho2.

My lungs have taken a bit of a beating in my 60 years because before I retired a few years ago from being a construction millwright I worked in a lot of dusty factories like steel mills and coal fire power plants and being a welder didn't help sucking in lots of welding and torch fumes over the years. I also smoked a fair bit of weed until I hit about 40 and was chronic for about a decade of that going through an ounce a week and then I didn't smoke any from 40 until I turned 59 and it became legal in Canada.

So I feel I would like to give my lungs a break but more so because I have had a tickle in the back of my throat that I have had for at least 30 years and I'm sure it's from smoking. It doesn't bother me moment to moment but if I am exposed to dust or smoke it really tickles in an incredibly irritating way so that I have to take a lozenge and since I tried smoking a little recently it has definitely gotten worse so I'm going to cut the smoking out almost entirely.

So when I started growing again recently when it became legal in Canada I started making olive oil extracts and they did get me high but I had an uncomfortable anxious feeling that really ruined it and I just couldn't understand why. People suggested letting my bud get more amber before I harvest and decarb different times and all sorts of things and nothing helped.

And then recently I tried making a tincture and it was like night and day. I have my old comfortable friend back because tinctures feel to me pretty much like smoking and I can get just as high. So for me to save my lungs and get that old comfortable feeling for me tinctures are the only way to go. To make a short story long.

Very interesting Homer. I'll have to try a tincture first! Thank you.

:welcome:

Yesterday I decarbed the near ounce or 26.5g of dried bud I got from what I harvested off my GG a few days ago and it has been soaking in the fridge in 95% ethyl alcohol overnight so this morning I filtered it. Ignoring the meniscus it looks like I recovered about exactly 7 ounces meaning since I started with 8 ounces I lost an ounce or 12 1/2% with what I couldn't squeeze out of the bud. I could probably make some sort of jig to hook up to my ram and get that down to half that loss but it just hardly seems worth the effort.

I tried a new straining system that didn't totally work out as I got some sediment in the bottom but I realize from my last batch where I made a really good clean batch with just a five-minute soak and comparing that to the dirty second 24-hour soak I did I've come to the conclusion taking it orally it just doesn't matter so the quickest and easiest recovery method is really best that gets the most resin. The dirtier extract actually felt like it might have given a slightly deeper and richer superior buzz.

I hooked up, The Ethanol Recovery Still 3000, and ran her through.

IMG_6329.JPG

I ended up with the recovered alcohol and my tincture which is about 1 ounce and a bit in volume.

IMG_6330.JPG

In future, I may make much more potent tinctures because it's just a waste of alcohol not to. But even if I make a full ounce tincture and lose an ounce with what I can't squeeze out per ounce that means 1 gallon of 95% alcohol would allow me to make 64 ounces of weed worth of tincture so this is a pretty sustainable system.

IMG_6332.JPG

I tried out about 20 drops which would be about half my evening dosage of NL. Definitely doesn't have the sedating effect of the NL but I do feel slightly anxious which isn't a nice feeling. As my daytime micro-doser I will probably only be using 3 to 5 drops so I may not have that same anxious feeling at lower dosages hopefully. Or maybe I'm just hungry or something I don't know. Hopefully, it works out and if not I got several strains on the way to check out.

I topped my seedling and since it could be a tall one instead of growing the third and fourth node branches which is traditional in a quadlining instead I am going to do the first and second and see how that works out. She's looking a little yellowish so I bumped her nutes up to 3 g per gallon. Damned if I can remember the name of this strain.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

Would you mind detailing what your distiller 3000 is made out of exactly and what temps your using. I've attempted tincture a few times but always have issues with evaporating off the alchohol effectively. Besides the typical danger of blowing my apartment apart, anything more someone should know before building a dis tiller for this reason? Thanks.

Just try a smaller dose if it’s to speedy for you.
Yes, I definitely plan on that; I just wanted to do one big dose to see what kind of animal I was dealing with. I also was so busy today I hadn't eaten since breakfast so now that I have some food in me things feel a lot calmer but not drowsy both good signs. I think it will work out fine.

Always love your photos.

Thank you, CADBOY. I really enjoy trying to make my journal look nice and once I get my computer upgraded and I can start doing some video editing again I am going to make a YouTube video of my Gorilla Glue plant from all the pictures I have taken of it.

I'm no genius by any measure but I do have a lot of experience with distilling; I used to be a certified stationary engineer which is basically a boilerman so I have a lot of theory and practice when it comes to thermal dynamics plus I have distilled a lot of my own alcohol so I have spent hundreds of hours studying and reading forums about distilling
so I do have a fair amount of background so I almost feel like I should try to dissuade you because you can blow your self up. So I will answer your questions but I wouldn't suggest just going out and doing it before you do some research and make sure you know what you're doing.

Basically all, The Ethanol Recovery Still 3000, consists of is an airtight jar that has had a 1/4 inch copper tube a couple of feet long soldered to it, and the copper tube goes through a container of cold water to condense the steam alcohol to recoverable liquid alcohol.

There are a few ways to blow yourself up; firstly if you have a leak around the seal of your jar or the piping and you are boiling your alcohol and instead of condensing it, it is just going into the atmosphere if you get enough with the right oxygen mixture you could blow up your house. And if somehow the line got plugged and the steam couldn't escape from your boiler, which is a glass jar, it could explode from the pressure. I feel very safe but you do have to take precautions.

As far as pressure there really is almost no pressure involved in this system if it operates properly because it is an open system and as quickly as the steam builds up pressure it is relieved once it is condensed in the worm tube. And pure ethyl alcohol has a boiling point of 78 °C (173 °F) so no matter how much heat you apply it won't go over that it will just boil quicker giving off more vapour the more heat you add but the temperature will not go above 78° C at atmospheric pressure.

Not sure what else to say other than I take no responsibility so please be careful. Yes I am thinking of running for office, LOL.

Excellent and thank you. I do have some understand of thermal dynamics, I work in a plant that condenses liquid milk via a 4 story size evaporator and has 4 boilers lol of course I'm not an engineer. I also will of course take every precaution possible. I dont think I'd like my place to blow up lol I may just not do it at all. Just really wanted to know how you did it ,)

Cool. :)

So now that I have sampled my Gorilla Glue tincture I can definitely say it has not gone too long because it doesn't seem to have much of any sedating effect and in fact seems like it should go longer the way it seems to have a bit of an edge to it. It has now been flowering for 12 weeks and three days despite Dr. Seeds recommendation of 7 to 9 weeks.

I am wondering if there is some sort of a downside to not harvesting? I think I might harvest tomorrow as I don't think this thing is ever going to change much. Have a look at these latest pics but they don't look much different from a week or two ago.

That’s really not a lot of amber, and the THC converts to CBG which is the couch lock feeling. More amber will take the edge off and become more sedating. I know guys in here that don’t harvest until they see 25% amber. It’s whatever you’re looking for.

For what you want to use it for I say it's probably ready.

Until I tried my tincture today I would have agreed with you but it definitely had a bit of an edge to it so I'm thinking not quite yet.

I agree that is not much amber but I find it varies a great deal from sample to sample and that one didn't have as much amber as the ones I took a week ago I don't think; I think some samples were close to 25% at least in some areas. But yes since it has a bit of an edge if you don't think it will do any harm and if it will take the edge off I'm more for going longer.

The reason I have been anxious about harvesting this plant is that keeping the cutting from it alive is totally screwing up my plant count. I kind of wanted to see how good the Gorilla Glue was before I made a decision but now I kind of have my answer. I was hungry today so maybe I didn't get a proper impression of it so this could change but my first impression is that my Gorilla Glue does give me a nice up high but along with that I get that damn anxious feeling olive oil extracts used to give me which is a big negative.

Not that it's a catastrophe it's actually good news in the sense that I can make a decision now and throw out the Gorilla Glue cutting that I have vegging now that I know it's not a great keeper besides I have four more of those seeds. Also contributing to the decision to get rid of it is I have a bunch of good seeds coming and I am looking for one nice clear up Sativa and a really dank down Indica and that plant doesn't fit in with my mission. Mostly it just doesn't feel good which is what it's all about. So Wednesday Mr. Gorilla Glue cutting goes in the trash, I will drop a Super Lemon Haze imminently and I will let the Gorilla Glue ripen up some more; now that I could make that decision I'm fine letting it go as long as it takes.
