Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

Hey BooWho2. I am ok. About to water Mrs. Gorilla Glue so I will probably post a pic later tonight.

Hey Homer pennywise is back
Thanks, oldsmokey but I just happened to see his post first. I am glad he is back. I felt aimless like I lost my growing mentor. He is the man! :headbanger:

I don't want to sound like one of those people who is never happy with his yield so let me say I am more than happy with my Gorilla Glue plant but it just makes me appreciate why Northern Lights is the ancestor of so many strains because so far it seems like the best strain I have grown considering stickiness and bud volume.

With that said my Gorilla Glue is doing okay but at six weeks and two days of bud I think my Northern Lights would have been well ahead in bud formation. It will be interesting to see what I get but on my record-breaking Northern lights I had 10 ounces in a 5-gallon pot and I think I will be lucky to beat that with a 10-gallon pot with my Gorilla Glue.

Long as the yield is decent quality is more in important than quantity. Very nice plant Homer
Thanks, oldsmokey. I think most smokers seem to agree with that but taking mine orally I am not sure it means as much. I think taste influences smokers a lot and since I don't even taste my tincture on my food it isn't really a consideration to me. I have been growing mostly Northern Lights, which does the job, but now I am looking for a daily micro-doser Sativa and I am curious if it makes a difference being less sedating.

Hey Homer. Are you saying above that you wonder if a Sativa for a daily micro-dose will be less sedating than the oral doses of NL that you currently take?
Yes, I am both wondering and hoping that.

Since I like my tinctures so much today I rigged up an alcohol recovery system. I gave it a little test run with 4 ounces of isopropyl alcohol and it worked pretty well. That should also clean out any flux in the system. By having a higher water level I got a faster distillate flow so I think the sides of the jar out of the water are acting as a condenser so I think I will use a shorter jar that is mostly submerged in future. And nothing makes me happier than being able to make something with just the junk I have around the house like I could with this project.

I figure I can clear up a lot of space in the freezer by turning the bud into oil, D'oh!

I found a pretty interesting article by some filtration company who sells filtration equipment to the cannabis industry. It says," This process freezes the lipids and fats in the crude product, and is not required with an ethanol solvent. The reason that other solvents need winterization is that butane, or BHO, unlike ethanol, is non-polar and therefore dissolves excessive plant material, which is removed via winterization."

I always thought ethanol has the wrong charge so that it breaks down chlorophyll more than most solvents but apparently it's just the opposite. Now that I have my recovery system I may be using more ethanol. Here's that article if anybody wants to read it.

That’s a good read for making some nice honey oil
It tells me it isn't that easy, LOL. I just got some 25 µm rosin bags but they go down to 5 µm and then they filter through charcoal and Diatomaceous Earth not to mention cooling it to -60°F to -80°F to settle it out. I think besides filtering it with my 25 µm filters the other inexpensive thing I could do is just leave it in the freezer once I have separated the bud from the alcohol and let the impurities settle for a while like someone suggested in some post. Other than that it looks like real equipment is needed to make honey oil.

Homer...way over my head...but looking and learning. Thanks for sharing.

I used to freeze my loaded solvent for 24 hours and it clears up a lot once you pour off the ethanol.
Glad to hear it works. Were you ever able to get anything as clear as honey oil?
