I've used Pinnacle for video editing as it was 'free' with the video converter I bought to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD. The version I have is not that great, and I've not bought the upgraded versions.
Have you looked at Corel Video Studio? They have a 30 day trial available, and it's not leased software. I've used Corel's editing and graphic design packages since '94. They seem pretty good, even though I'm not a graphic artist. I'm still learning how to use parts of it, and often still do things the 'hard' way.
I checked out Corel Video Studio and PC Magazine gives it 4.5 stars out of five and gives Adobe Premier Elements only 3.5 stars so it does seem to be a pretty good program and it actually costs about $60 less.
If I had known this before I would definitely have purchased the Corel instead of the Adobe program but now that I have forked out $160 I am trying to find a free solution but if things don’t work out I will be trying the Corel.
I have uninstalled and installed so many programs my Windows is now compromised because I can’t install anything now so I think I am going to have to reinstall Windows which I was really trying to avoid but I feel I have no choice. Since I have that video half edited I am going to reinstall Windows and try and reinstall Adobe Premiere Elements just to get it done then I have two programs that have totally free versions; da Vinci and HitFilmExpress I will try.
If they both don’t work out and I can’t get a good program for free I will probably try the Corel. Thanks a lot for the input Old Salt. You always have some good sound advice.
My computer is about eight years old so it's kind of slow for video editing and especially rendering so I am going to get an upgrade this summer once Windows 11 comes out. New motherboard, RAM, processor, and operating system.
