Hempy Headquarters

I have a few Hempy grows under my belt about 15 plants in total. I never really thought much about PH because I started with CoCo and would fertigate everyday. I was told forget runoff in CoCo because you are putting nutes with the correct PH (6ish) everyday. So I followed the same thought process in my Hempy grows, most of the plants seemed ok but would always seem to yellow a bit during the whole grow, I would always assume not enough of calmag or something.

Is it possible that the PH could/would drift out of range during that 1 to 2 day period? If i started with a ph of 6 and combined it with a slightly higher ph in my reservoir then my nutes could already be out of the proper 6.5 range and my plants were yellowing due to lack of nute uptake.

Maybe I should always water at 5.5 ph. I have included the schedule I followed in coco and also the same in my perlite hempy.

Thoughts and thanks!

BTW: I do not flush my Hempy during the grow. Just keep watering with nutes.

If I can let them go for 2 days between fertigations, I will set initial pH around 5.5-5.6, so I can drift the range upward.

But if I have to fertigate daily, I go with anything between 5.75 and 6.25 and call it good - it will be empty tomorrow (or later today during flowering!)

What issues am I causing by not flushing my buckets?

As a reminder, in hempy, you want to get at least a 10-20% runoff. Ideally, you add the solution quickly enough that you get a strong stream from the hole - think of the fountain of the little boy peeing.

Once in a while - maybe every two weeks or so - it’s a good idea to plug the hole and fill until the perlite moves, then let it go.

You can always tilt the bucket to drain off some of the reservoir before fertigating.

What do you mean - not flushing your buckets? You don’t continue adding solution until you get runoff?
Sorry, yes I do. I get a steady stream pouring out. I don't measure but for sure more than 10% or 20%.b I always have allot to vacuum up and feed to my outside plants.

What I meant was that some people feed, feed, flush with water, and repeat.

hi dinger ...

coco and hempy about follow the same schedule. most growers start at 1/2 or even 1/4 the printed sched for bottle or hydro nutes that comes with the product. 1/2 is usually recommended. most nute companies have too hot of a normal feed chart.

When I fertigate, I always do the second quote as I don't have the arm strength to pour the water in and plug the hole with a finger, which is how I thought I was taught? Is it possible that me doing it this way is why they appear to be suffering from a nitrogen toxicity? Was I just supposed to pour until approximately 10-20% runoff without plugging the hole at all?

Why is it a waste? I figured it was good to hold the nuted water inside for a minute. That way the plant has longer to access the nutes it needs.

Maybe I misunderstood your procedure. If you fill the wastebasket substantially above the hole, and you get 100%+ runoff every time, then you are draining away more nutrients than the plant could use.

If you are simply saying that you hold the hole for a minute, and then get less than 50% runoff, then you are good.

Well, how do I keep 70-80% of the water in there then? The bottom won't hold that much.
