Hempy Headquarters

Hi Hempy peeps

My first 2 Hempy Buckets have recovered from my initial balls-up, and are doing well.

IMGP1514.JPG

They're Auto's so there's been no chance to catch up on lost time, they will remain stunted. They're starting to flower, and apart from their size they look really healthy.

The transition from soil to hempy hasn't been as easy as I'd have liked, but I'm happy with the results so far, all things considered.

HashGirl have you popped any seeds yet? Feel free to pop by my journal, plenty of mistakes to learn from :)

Cheers for the help all.

:Namaste:

They don’t look very stunted to me Piña. They look like young autos on their way to healthy harvests. It looks like you have things under control. :thumb:

Hi Hempy peeps

Thanks, Pina, I'm planning on starting the entire grow including seed popping on May 1st. My last day at work is April 30.

I will be starting a grow journal here on 420 and will be sure to leave a link here for people to check out.

She’ll be starting with autos bluter, something that just occurred to me.:hmmmm:

The CBD CCs did so well, in part, because I upcanned them at least once in the process.

HashGirl, I say give them a try. Like the guys point out, roots will fill any space we give them. With hemp pot size isn’t the restriction it might be with other systems. We grow some serious plants in very little medium with our nearly continuous drenching schedules. Lol!

Thanks, Sue, I will give them a try and when stores open again, I'll try to find better pots going forward.

Also, Felonious bought some perlite, rockwool and nutrients for me today. Only 3 more weeks before I can get this grow started.

:woohoo:

I’ll have a germination tutorial for you later tonight. :hugs:

they are a bit big ...

your veg time will expand exponentially in a larger pot, and it takes longer for the plant to hook up. - roots hitting the res.

one of the advantages to hempy is you don't need huge pots for a decent sized plant. the original hempy system used 2L pop bottles

i use a 2L and a 5 L pot. mostly use the 2L ones. i use these pots ...

the beer bottle is to show scale. six of those pots are responsible for this ...

you will get bigger plants with larger yields per plant in the larger pot. the advantage to the small ones is your veg time is cut in half and you roll more grows through in a year.

Hey bluter, my husband just noticed that your pots look oval. Does the shape of the pot matter? (He's going to try to find smaller ones for me before Friday. :battingeyelashes: )

i actually prefer square if possible lol. it's the best for managing grow space.

the oval shape is ok, and probably second for managing grow space. it will affect the shape of your plants if you top and train though.

although the most common, round really isn't that great for space management. the plants will grow a touch more natural looking, but they really don't care at all.

the best shape is the one that holds your media ... :cheesygrinsmiley:

edit: the key to hempy pots is cheap -- dollar store or nothing. just keep an eye out for shape and size, and spend as little as possible.

Hi again.

Felonious brought home 3 more sizes of pots: 2L, 5L and 7L. Here are the photos:

I'm thinking the middle-sized one is probably perfect, the 5L one but let me know what you think so Felonious can go and buy me another one.

Thanks in advance.

Great! Thanks, Felipe!

hmm..

in this situation it seems the best way forward is for Felonious' gf to make up her damn mind ... :p

bigger pots bigger plants but longer to to grow proper hon ...
and a small pot in hempy will support more than other media .. stuff to chew .. :cheesygrinsmiley:

vote do 5L and 2L. run those sizes. keep it black.

No, Felonious isn't a grow journal kind of guy. I'm the person in the household who likes to track things. :battingeyelashes:

And, he doesn't mind being at my beck and call. He's been there for 36 years so far. :laughtwo:

So, I'm starting my hempy grow tomorrow and am wondering if I have to rinse my perlite? The guy at the hydroponic store said it wasn't necessary.

If you don’t rinse it, your reservoir will have a layer of silty sludge in it, taking up room from roots or water. You may also experience drainage issues, as the fines may fill in the voids around larger particles. I rinse using a 1/4” sieve.

Just don’t rinse it down your sink!

Thanks, guys. Now, I just have to figure the best way to rinse it without it going down the drain. Maybe in my colander?

My limited experience makes me say "wash that perlite".

I cleaned mine in a large plastic tub filled with water. Mixed it all around, then scooped up all the stuff that floats with a colander.

The waste water from the cleaning was used on every other house plant I have.

I used them as a filter to stop all the dust going into the drains. They all have a layer of white on their soil now.

I've now washed 2 different brands of perlite, and the amount of sludge produced differed greatly, but there was always sludge.

:Namaste:
