Hempy Headquarters

I like this method, and when I get back to growing again I’ll use it. It was the H2O2 that caught my eye. :battingeyelashes: This grow is really taking off for you, isn’t it bluter? :high-five:

just a wide eyed novice here :)

so glad i found hempy and this thread. its about the only thing flexible enough for the parameters of the grow. if it wasn't for everything i've been taught here i'd be harvesting sticks.

the H202 thing is just something brought over from old school hydro. it's adapted a little, but is really just the same thing.. the plants love it. i don't do the type of flush with double or three times the bucket capacity that is usually recommended. i find this works better. it's great for a root clean up or to clear problems.

This stuff is #8 size, I found another cheaper brand that has #4 and I think it’s actually pretty similar in size, but haven’t ordered it yet.

have you got a resource you could share ? without running afoul of the rule book .... :meditate:

This is the #8 size I’m currently using, it’s the one that now costs $90.

This is the #4 stuff that I’m going to get if the price doesn’t drop back down on the other one.

sweet. thnx. @DrDoob :thumb:

thinking i might order some and mix it with the local stuff i get.

My hydro shop has that #4 stuff
I need to go check it out and see how big it really is

hi @Chris Scorpio

i get 110 ltr bag of the regular stuff for under $30 Cdn local. but it's everything from dust to rocks. about a third is waste going straight into the garden. been begging them to look into the bigger stuff but they are like deer in the headlights lol.

not a lot of hempy here. i've had to describe the method to the local hydro shop owners.

Has anyone used pumice gravel instead of perlite?
I am currently using lava rock from lowes in my hempys. Seems to work well in my world. Just needs a solid rinse before using. Thinking it can be reused several times.

Cost under $25 for 2.5 cubic feet.

Yeah, my thought is that it might be cheaper and easier to source than the big bags of perlite. You could probably get it dirt cheap at a landscaping supply. It is often cheaper than at the big box stores.

I did it because I figured it would be recyclable, came in 1/2 cubic foot bags so nobody had to watch me carry in a giant bag of perlite, and cheap cheap cheap.

The stuff works.

i have loads of hydroton pebbles all cleaned and ready to use. been musing about mixing it with the perlite on a hempy grow. i only hesitate as i figger it would probably separate.

hiya VG.

A couple of my hempys are made out of standard nursery pots filled with the lava rock and then set into a coffee can with a hempy hole on the side lined up perpendicular to the bottom of the pot. Trying to see the difference between a standard hempy reservoir with media and this "empty" reservoir. So far nothing is different besides less frequent feedings.

This might be useful during the summer months here when the tent easily climbs over 100°F (lights on) for weeks/months at a time.

Howdy Bluter!
My guess is it would separate also. You could try a small test run with no plants.

Here is a quick shot of the girls after defoliation. I will be running hempys again on my next grow after my DWC girls go into the flower tent in about 8-9 weeks from today. I am a fan of the explosive growth I get from DWC but hempys have been so easy to take care that I will add it to my grow mix.

Speaking of perlite, I have discovered why the pH increases from top watering to runoff. Perlite has a natural pH of about 7, and must act as a buffer to pull up the low pH of a nutrient solution.

Fresh new perlite (no plant to confuse things). Input - 5.75, output - 6.35
It’s instant pH Up in a pot!

Interesting. Does this mean that feeding with a much lower PH, say 5, would be beneficial as the PH would rise through the PH spectrum needed to make everything available?
