Hempy Headquarters

My main issue with hempy is the daily attention needed in the early weeks, I like to go camping in summer, but hempy has been great fun for winter. Also, my main objective is the taste of the bud, I'm strictly a smoker and the info I've seen says to go organic for that. I've been using the FF hydro trio and while Big Bloom is organic, the NPK nutes are not, any recommendations for an organic alternative?

any recommendations for an organic alternative?

I have considered using part of the GO line from General Hydroponics, but that stuff is smelly already and I can't imagine it would react well in the reservoir after a day in the summer heat (my tent regularly tops 100°F for a large portion of the summer). I'm pretty skittish about organic and hempy going together in my tent. General rule in my garden is nothing alive but the plants.

I've only grown one strain of auto flower in hempy. That was DDA in 100% perlite. I've grown three in the hempy pots and realized about 2.25 oz. dry weight per plant on average. Since I have nothing to compare that with I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
2+ ounces IMO per auto is a win.

Interesting thoughts TS.

Cells - all cells - have brains. We call them membranes. We were misinformed in school. They now understand that with human cells it’s the membrane itself that acts as the brain of that individual organism. So I’m gonna assume plants work the same way.

The ladies and gentlemen at the Autoflowering Network have already figured out how to make incredible yields with autoflowering plants. They’ll answer questions about autos with the same fervor we will. Many of our own members are also active over there. There’s no lack of available guidance.

I went to bed last night aware that I had a calcium deficiency screaming at me.

It appears that Mega Crop 2.0 + RO water requires that 2 tsp/gallon of CaliMagic I was adding before reducing because they said it wouldn’t be necessary. This morning I mixed another gallon with the proper proportions and flushed it in.

I have faith she’ll recover. Hempy makes this adjustment incredibly easy to perform.

I’ve proven to myself over the past four years that organic doesn’t improve the quality enough to make it a golden rule for cannabis cultivation. I’ve noticed very little differences between my own tests.

During the summer you might want to grow in soil and sit them on a SWICK basin of perlite. That system has water only in the reservoir, and you can sit a cloth pot on one and go away for a week, come back to a jungle of healthy leaves and flowers.

Yeah I agree with the organic thing mate. It's definitely a cleaner smoke. No doubt about it, can tell straight away when you get organic cos it's not very often. Is it worth giving up the yield for though and putting up with pests and all the other hassle you get from non hydro. Nah, not for me like. I tried one last year. Got some chicken shit manure from a friend. He grows in that in the greenhouse quite succesfully. 2 weeks in my attic though and the pot was bouncing with all sorts of nasty wee bastards just dying to ruin my crop. Was the bin as soon as I noticed. Way too much drama for me already lol.

Since I stopped with dirt and goopy bottled nutes I haven't seen a bug. No more pesticides, no more strange smells, no more problems beyond the usual suspects really.

Been 3 years Coco/hydro with not a single bug other than those. The thought of an infestation terrifies me. Gonna drop some autos gorilla style in may though so they'll probably get eaten by something as usual lol

I've had thoughts of putting soil on top of a 3" bed of perlite in a 5 gal bucket with several hempy style holes around the base ....

My 2.5 gallon hempy girls. 9 days from flip. Thanks for all of the tips I've found here people, it's been a great help for a first timer, like me. @Chris Scorpio has been my compass mainly. Thanks, bud.

Check out the SWICK thread. I believe my dish pans were about 8” deep. You fill to 1” below the perlite surface and set the soft pot on or shimmy the hard pots below the surface a bit.

The effect is not unlike what we’re seeing with Octopots. I’m not yet convinced that an Octopot can outdo a SWICK, but they’re fun to try. :slide: After pulling 6 oz from my last big girl in hempy it’s hard to imagine anything can beat hempy. The child of that big yielder is looking to outpace her mother.

hello headquarters...

fort st. veg/clone reporting.....

full

recruits continue doing well. would like another 2 weeks of veg time max. would prefer to flip them sooner. waiting for jungle patrol to clear out the flower room. they may have to get flipped at fort st. veg/clone before moving, and then finish in the jungle/flower room.

all the recruits got a trim.

concentrating on thinning the interior out. the plan is to focus on 1 to 3 colas / main branches per plant. the rest will be trimmed off. the best side branches will provide the clones for the next run, or for short term mother plants that i may veg a lot longer while going back to seed for a newer strain. plans are a bit fluid now, and will change with the circumstances.

conditions at for st. veg/clone are decent and stable.

we are in spring conditions here. i may take one of the bubblers out to clip the humidity some as it builds. a fan was added to the room this week to aid in circulation.

tip for the northerners... bought this generic clip fan from cdn tire. it was both cheaper and quieter than the zon options, or anything from a hydro shop. 2 speed, not noisy on either setting. saved a bit over $10 cdn. comes with a base for desktop app. considering a getting a second.

jungle patrol reports ongoing progress. tho a bit slow. wk 10 of flower.

2 of 5 are in the window and have started flush. the rest are on a reduced nute program for the remaining wk(s) they will be maturing. may have got a bit ahead of them, trying not to rush them. shooting for about 10% amber before flush. most of the amber present is on the sugar leaves, with a few in the bud itself. made a judgement call on the first two, and ordered a better loupe to help be certain on the rest.

that is all headquarters. stay healthy and green.

:) :peace: :)

Evening folks.
Been thinking about this whole hempy scenario and I've just realised that Ive never see anyone pull particularly impressive 1 plant yields with it.
There's no doubt it's an amazing and easy way to grow but can you pull monsters in it?

It's not legal here so less is best but I'm going perpetual this year to get fast turn around as apposed to individual yield.
I can grow whatever size plant I want in NFT but usually grow autos.
Photos this year though and the veg room is in my walk in wardrobe now and 12/12 area in the un tented attic, which is staying that way for various reasons.
I've tried dwc and I don't like it so not an option. My usual NFT, it isn't possible to get the plants up in the Res so hempy was my obvious inbetweener after a few cracks at fabric pots.

anyway im getting distracted with nonesense now so my question is..

Has anyone ever managed a 10oz + auto in a hempy?
I know in growing photos but time is key so no good if I've gotta veg them for more than 8 weeks.

hi barney

a 10 oz auto in anything seems a bit of a goal. a 20L hempy bucket could maybe get you there. being an auto tho i'd hazard it would finish itself well before getting there. in my experience autos are for growing small, fast, and finishing quick. only ever did those in soil so far tho.

maybe have a read thru all the DDA everyone grew hempy to get an idea.

Ditto

A 10oz plant is great in any medium, but bit of a stretch as a normal goal

Benefits of Hempy is ease and size, as in smaller buckets, and simple similar to true hydro

If yer set on 10oz I'd go soil or DWC

I have some GDP and Amnesia Haze, in 3gal buckets now
A longer veg than normal but for sure should get me 4-6oz each

5 plants in a tub

I'd say a big 5gal could yield a larger amount for sure

I know @Tead is running some bigger buckets, not sure if he has harvested yet or not

@Barney86 , The best we’ve seen so far in hempy, at least to my recollection on this thread, was in the neighborhood of 6 oz, and I’ve pulled that twice recently with little effort and little medium.

If we were pulling 10 oz from our soil plants we wouldn’t be looking to switch mediums, IMO. Lol! We’d all like to pull 10 oz. :battingeyelashes:

A-Train pulled a pound off an auto in soil, and he’s done that more than once. He’d be more than pleased to school you on the necessary adaptations, if you approach him respectfully on his own turf over with the auto flowering network. The man lives to teach others how to pull that feat off consistently.

We have threads here that’ll teach you to pull 4-6 oz from autos in soil consistently, but we already do that with less stress and lacking the weight and frustrations of soil.

Pure and simple, hempy is an adaptable, dependable, easy-to-use system for growing happy, healthy cannabis plants any size you desire.

Brix has a Devil’s Carnival standing taller than me in five gallons of perlite, with buds the size of my fist.

Wanna know why we keep growing hempy? This girl is one of the motivations we use to inspire us. :battingeyelashes:

Maybe I should start saving my used perlite and try it someday.

Try for something low and wide. Cannabis likes to spread her roots out. :battingeyelashes:

Ten ounces from an auto is pretty ambitious. I have gotten 12+ ounces off a photo Pineapple Chunk in my first try with Octopots and Texas Tomato Food. I am just starting to try out hempy in 5 gallon pots, but I have to ask, have you gotten close to ten ounces with an auto? If so which auto in particular because I am interested in high yielding autos for the corner of my veg tent.
