Heirloom's A Little Bit Of Everything - 2016 Journal

Very nice, Brother! +REPS! :bravo:

I love the SmartPots in the reservoirs! :welldone:

I saw a YouTube video of a guy growing corn that way (he put a bunch of the SmartPots in a big plastic kiddie pool - yours look much more professional than his!) and the growth was totally "off the charts". I've recommended this method to a couple of MMJ growers, but have yet to see anyone try it! :thumb:

How long have you been doing that? What's your experience so far?

I need to make a small correction on this info. I was thinking the spray bottle size we used was 100ml, and we were using 1/2 the bottle every spray. The bottle is actually 40ml, so for a 12" dense indica we are using about 20ml per

No Pic Update...just blah, blah, blah....

In fact no reason to read it all unless you want to make feminized seeds. :thumb:

The status of feminized seed projects....

Yesterday it was noticed that some seed pods are already opening on the Blue Dream. Two seeds were plucked. Fully developed and dark with patterns. She has a little less than two weeks left before harvest. Looking good for the seeds!

Sib1 Dark Devil Auto fem seeds.....check
S1 HSO Blue Dream pheno 1 fem seeds.....check
Hybrid fem seeds of the above.....check

That's more checks than I thought I would have in this category, this year.

Fruit Punch is next up on making S1 seeds. The STS has been sprayed twice now. First the day before flip, and again one week later (yesterday). The seed host plant is vegged up, healthy and just waiting another week...maybe two....before she gets flipped too. I decided to pop another DDA Sib1 seed in hopes of it catching some fruit punch pollen. Devils Punch Bowl anyone????

For the fruit punch, I've decided to spray the STS 1 time per week until pollen sacks are nearly open. Maybe 4 weeks, we'll see how long she takes to sack up.

The (current) STS recipe/procedure is as follows:

Part A = 1 gram Silver Nitrate dissolved into 60ml distilled water
Part B = 6.25 grams Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate dissolved into 240ml distiller water

Mix part A into part B stirring rapidly. You don't have to mix all of it up at this point. I mix smaller quantities from the part A and part B, but the ratio must remain 1 part A to 4 parts B. I mixed 20ml part A into 80ml part B and kept the rest for future use.

So now you have STS concentrate that must be diluted, lest you burn the plant. 5:1 is the ratio I am currently trying. That's 5 parts distilled water to 1 part STS concentrate.

My 100ml total concentrate mixes with 500ml water to make 600ml spray-able solution.

We soak the plant from top to bottom, inside, upside down. Heck, If I had a vat of STS, I would just dunk it. Sprayed twice on spray day. Once mid day and she's kept away from bright light. Once again before lights out and she's put away. That 600ml spray-able is 5-6 weeks worth for one plant at one dual soaking per week. Enough for 10-12 or so full spray soakings on a dense 12"ish indica. We tend to use about 50ml (revised, it is 20ml) per spray session. Wispy, leggy sativa like strains use less.

We have not tried STS on just one branch. We've found it easiest to handle a whole small plant in a #1 pot, who's purpose is only to produce pollen. I won't be asking them to reverse some branches and bear seed on others anymore. Much easier to pull the whole small plant from the tent, spray it all over in another room and keep it out of the bright light etc. I'm sure even smaller plants would be fine, solo cup size. You really don't need a pollen plant as big as we're making.

:thanks:

Thank you Mr. Krip. First time I've done that.

Those tubs are fountain reservoirs. Bought them at auction for less than a penny on the dollar from a defunct garden center.

I think if my soil/media had better aeration, it would be killer. But this Holy Cow soil I used, I didn't add any. It holds a lot of water. So wet/dry cycles are tougher, and we're getting algae bloom on those pots because of it. We keep them on the high side so they aren't in standing water. To my knowledge those are the only ones to have roots searching out the bottom.

I think with a little more thought and some aeration, it could almost work like a hempy res. My initial thought was catching more rain water for some wicking action.

:thanks:

I went looking for that video for you and, I forgot....He doesn't use SmartPots...He uses Walmart shopping bags!!!

BTW...Awesome deal on the res's! :thumb:

Walmart bags. That...that sounds familiar......where did I....

Oh yeah. It was me. Sept 2012...

I even went so far as to take the bags apart and use the materials for starter pots. It was also on those pots that the vertical velcro seam idea came to me. Makes transplant/extraction much easier.

:high-five:

EDIT: I also made 5 gallon pots from the material. When Walmart bags were used, their logo and tag line 'Save Money. Live Better' was perfectly placed on the outside of the pot. Save Money. Live Better. I did! Had a little hot house with 30 of them.

 OK...admit it! That's YOUR corn, right? :)

:passitleft: morning Ralph... Well ah, have a good day...

Grizz, that's a real wild bluebird. I have a couple bird houses that host some families of different species. The bluebirds are my favs.

Those are exhaust fans, so they are higher. Not pictured are the low side wall intakes the blow up the skirt of each plant.

Yep... your feeling better....MEN...:thedoubletake:....:circle-of-love:

Update

Well I had an update, all typed up, pictures and everything, then poof. Gone. Now you just get pics with short readers digest explanations because I'm not typing it all again. Sorry.

You know I feel your pain on this one...:high-five:.................:circle-of-love:

Hiya D! Thanks for stopping over and spending valuable awake time on my poor attempt at seedy man humor. Really glad you got a laugh outta my blueprints. Sorry it hurt.

We're all adults here and as far as I'm concerned you and anyone else can express your opinions as long as it falls with in 420 site rules. We all don't have to agree, we just need to be civil about it. Don't like it? Don't like the post and move on.

And yes, I watched some last night. Lone survivor SEAL and the Marines after. The mom of the computer tech guy, that was heart wrenching. She straight up nailed H...I....double hockey sticks...to the cross.

:goodjob:

I love ya Heir.....:cheer:...:circle-of-love:

Sure will, but tarp won't drain that well, so you'll need to puncture it on the bottom.

I'm so glad to see some actual pics of the walmart bags in use. I had some other brand of those bags that I was going to use in my first ever grow and wound up making my own fabric pots instead. I kept the bags, just in case. I'm going to put them to use because they hold a LOT more soil than the fabric pots I currently have made.
