Heavens Shores - Bill's 2022 Grow: Come Meet Howie! Show Us Your Grow Too - Bring A Pic

No personal experience making RSO but I do remember reading @medmanmike's post a few years back about how difficult (if not impossible) it was to completely purge iso from the oil, so I think ethanol is the safest way to go.

You can read MedManMike's post here about iso purging and what is considered "safe" for what remains. The conversation continues further down the page after that linked post.
Just going by what bill said: he was going to use Rick Simpson's recipe & rick never used ethanol
It was either Naphtha or ISO

Congrats to Stacey on the terrific promotion and your new project! What GDB said about doors closing and opening is certainly true. :goodluck: with the new endeavors.
Thanks Shed I appreciate it.
There were so many things that happened for this to come together , Stacey found out afterwards the whole story.
The odds are astronomical that it all worked out.
I told her to buy a lottery ticket.
Also I've never made RSO before either.
But I'm fed up buying it I'll tell you That.
I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to check out all the methods.
I'll check medmanmike out that's great. :thanks:
I'm completely open to suggestions as to best safest methods, don't want to hurt myself.
Tell me Shed you must have an incredible memory, you recall so much info from so many different sources.
Mine is fading fast lately, doc said there is nothing to be done at this point.
Eat right, avoid stress and get lots of sleep was her recommendation.
So if I start calling you She'd again you'll know why. ;)
Take care my friend.

As I mentioned I haven't made RSO (or anything similar) but whatever you use to extract the cannabinoids should be either 100% purged after you use it or 100% safe for human consumption. Iso doesn't seem to fall into the first category and definitely isn't in the second.

For years here it was off limits to talk about how to make Butane hash oil (BHO) but later they added a section on it, so you might want to give that a peruse:

I'm not sure how to purge it completely but I'm sure it's dealt with in those threads. I've never heard of anyone here using naptha, and keep in mind that Rick Simpson made his oil back in the early 2000's and didn't have access to testing, given how illegal cannabis was back then.

Of course, QWET is a well-covered topic here and my favorite thread on that is from @Grandpa Tokin here:

It's always interesting to see when folks' phones stop autocorrecting Shed. Starts as She'd and eventually your phone figures out what who you mean. :)

I have heard about the positive results that CBD has on brain health (even the NFL is interested in it related to concussion treatment), and while there apparently haven't been any clinical trials for CBD and Alzheimer's yet (for some reason :hmmmm: ), it can't hurt to give it a try. I know that Amy Gardner liked Ace CBD #1 and HashGirl has recommended Alpine Star CBD from our friends at @Weed Seeds Express.

interesting reading about the rso and iso. thanks for the link to medmans post,, interesting indeed

i have seen at least two tutorials on making rso , both by doctors in some field or other,, using iso alc,,

so that is what i do,,

however,, if i was making this oil for anyone but myself then indeed the iso remnants would be a concern

my thinking is that any possible benefit from using the rso, for whatever, the benefits will out weigh the negatives

my thinking only,, y'all do your own,, ha

thanks @Bill284 , and @InTheShed , for the fresh look

I'm on a daily regiment of CBD every morning, with my coffee.
Then latter in the day.
I take what's called reign drops.
Its 30 - 0 straight THC and then RSO oil.
Great for pain and all my other conditions.
The only draw back is pot doesn't effect me the same way anymore.
But it helps with pain so I'm ok with that.
Just once I'd like to get the giggles like we did in high-school.
Sitting at the back of geography class laughing our asses off.
I got A's so the teacher didn't care, probably smoked himself. ;)
Looking forward to not having to buy it anymore.
Good quality RSO is expensive here.
Hopefully Stacey's new position has a discount with it.
We will still have to purchase CBD.
My attempt at pure cbd plants was cut short.
Again thanks again for all the great info. :thanks:

My wife is exactly the same way. She takes ~36mg CBD oil (3 caps)/day for the arthritis in her big toes and never gets as high from my weed as all her friends do. She considers the trade off worth it and just smokes a lot more to try to make up for it. Still, as you mentioned, she never quite gets high the same way as before.

Everywhere! It takes a lot of flower to make those precious little syringes.

g'nite Bill, and friends,, from the west coast, close anyway,,

Bill, interesting find today whilst trimming,, thot i might point it out,, iffin y'all don't mind

bud rot,, how and where it forms,, what are the conditions necessary??

good q

20221022_133305 (2).jpg

this is the only sign of rot i have found so far,, but rot it is,, indeed

there was a spec of moisture in the very center of this bud,, how the moisture got there i have not a clue,, no rain for months,, and chopped before any rain at all..

so where did the moisture come from?? and how long has it been there,, and how did it get to the center of the bud?

right in the center,, rotting from the inside out, as you noted.

complete vindication of folks bud rot situation,, not noticed till way too late

i am wanting this to be the last i see of this stuff,,

peace out indeed

Whats up Bill?

Wow it’s been ages and you’ve stacked up at least 100 pages since my last visit. Last week I read from page 100 to current but now I’m going backwards trying to find first pics of the greenhouse going up.

Dude your photography showcases precisely how honking gorgeous your plants are. I’m sure by now you are in the cold of winter.

Oh yes sir, you were talking about heating greenhouse, did ever see Off the Cuff episode about Earthships? It’s style of building used in desert with scrap materials, the building sites have special hazardous materials classification. Anywho they use sand packed into car tires as foundation or for a berm wall, it’s a thermal battery that heats up in day but releases heat at night. Don’t know if that helps you any but it’s neat stuff to see. That community uses water 4 times before it’s recycled and they all have passive solar rooms with garden space. I saw it on prime but think it might be on YouTube also.

gotta run - you be safe now!

Whats up Bill?
Hey Amigo. :ciao: how is everything going?
Been too long.

Wow it’s been ages and you’ve stacked up at least 100 pages since my last visit.
see too long.
Last week I read from page 100 to current but now I’m going backwards trying to find first pics of the greenhouse going up.
I bought a Costco portable garage and just used the poles, frame.
I used tuck tape to fasten 6 ml poly to it.
Added ventilation and lights and voila. ;)
I'll find the posts for you.
Dude your photography showcases precisely how honking gorgeous your plants are.
Thank you so much.
my tablet died half way through the grow.
the new one i grabbed has a fantastic camera.
But it's was easy with such beautiful girls.

I’m sure by now you are in the cold of winter.
Yes I had to chop down everyone in a couple days.
But I did have heat.
It was the rh that killed me.
At night with the vents closed.
Rainforest.

I was thinking about making dmt and the recipe called for naphtha but after reading this I don’t think it’s something I’m going to try. CL🍀

Hey bro did you ask your Dr. about any clinical trials? I know it’s a shot in the dark but ya never know. CL🍀

Don't forget transpiration. The plant is a living breathing sweating thing!
Guess my short replies get the best of me. Nev mentioned It was dry, no rain there for a while & wondered where the moisture came from
yes, that is where it came from, but it condensed inside the bud, near the stem at night when it got cold
That is why you have to check inside your buds for mold
First sign of leaves in bud looking dead, bend the bud open to check for rot

a big reason why you should always water in the morning & never in the evening especially come fall
