Heavens Shores - Bill's 2022 Grow: Come Meet Howie! Show Us Your Grow Too - Bring A Pic

Know anyone around with a small wood stove with a blower? More work having to split wood and whatnot but it’s darn good heat!
I have a wood stove in the house.
It cripples me carrying wood.
Can't do two.
Besides a cord is $160 here.
Expensive too.

i have a friend who lives yr round in a cabin and grows. he uses a furnace, a wood stove, and electric. a multi prong approach keeps his costs lower.
That may be the way to go.

horticultural bubble wrap is good for keeping heat in if you don’t have any sort of insulation on the inside.
I'm using Roxul in the walls.
I just wanted a little extra insulation.
Has to be non flammable aswell.

You could also plumb in some pipe and make some hot water beds from Hydronic heating.
Radiant floor heat would be good.

The gas line is literally beside the shed.
I don't have my ticket anymore ot I'd hook up a little gas unit.
The compressor for the minisplit is there aswell.
I wonder if I could run 2 unit off it?
All Roxul insulation.
I'd like to cover the walls in some sort of insulation board and paint it white.
Yes just have angle brackets everywhere.
I'm running the electrical in the surface, probably BX - 14/2 to each outlet.
60 Amp sub panel in there, depending on heat.
Solar would be amazing.
It's under trees though .
But the steel roof of the house would be perfect. :thumb:
It's a matter of hay right now though.
I'll see what I can find.

just get a gas fitter. there's piles of heated garages etc and it's not a hard job in their world. there's loads of cool ones too, they don't care what your building. you won't need a huge furnace, it won't run constant.

you want to insulate better than a new house. walls ceiling etc. plan for air exchange as well. you'll need a tight place.

in canada at -40c it's a recipe for burst pipes, frozen rads, and massive mess.

Tile floor.

that structure can't support it unless you do concrete and a foundation or slab.

edit : as it is you should skirt the shed. ground loss is huge for heat.

I have R 28 roxul in the 2x8 floor.
6 mil poly over it.
Once I'm finished running wires and stuff underneath I'll seal up that 6 " gap.
But there are floor systems that can be supported by wood floors.
I put one in my Muskoka room in the old house.
As long as the floor is insulated well it's a good way to go.

i didn't mean support it weight-wise. it would require a more solid structure. in floor heating breaks apart to the tune of thousands when the house shifts or settles. a good foundation or slab keeps that from occurring.

edit : this was my pops living. he also designs grow rooms now.

more edit : also remember you need to run a boiler with in floor heating. you would still have to run gas for that. it is the most even consistent heating ever though. i'd run it if you can.

I'd like a mini split in there.
It'll be year round.
Probably a cheep heater at first.
Probably a 5x5 flowering room and a 5x4.5 veg room.
10 and 8 feet high respectively.
Then a 5x10 work area with a bench and control center.
I'd love one of those new @VIVOSUN SYSTEMS.
But I have more lights than I can use right now.
Worst case scenario that 1000₩ MedicGrow in a 5x5b:woohoo:
Tell me that doesn't make you smile. :cheesygrinsmiley:
Hope your having a great day my friend.
Any suggestions for cheep heat to start?

They have propane heaters that are fairly cheap until you have a permanent fix. Greenhouse sounds great you’re going to be putting out a lot of bud. Hope your well + having a great weekend my friend. CL🍀

Many years ago I was a brick mason’s laborer. (Damn hard work) But I remember they had insulation sheets that were silver sided. Very reflective! Good luck CL🍀

What the fek is a Muskoka room? Lmao 🤣

Hi Bill,

I have a 5k hanging electric heater as back up for my 900 sq. ft. shop. It does get expensive @ -30c but for your space it might not be too bad. They run in the $2-300 range.

Another option would be electric baseboard heaters. I have two 1500w for my 700 sq. ft. house. They are about $70 each and could do until you come up with another plan !

Most cost effective would be a hanging gas heater. Bit more money but less $ to run.

The trick will be heating the flower part of the room. That section will have to be light tight and it's heat would have to be "pulled in" from the main part of the space.

Cheers

is what i meant as a furnace. the savings to run make up for install.
they're usually called garage or hanging furnaces here.
