Haystack's Outdoor Grow

I've cut off 12" from the top of my plants in the last week...I have a 9' ceiling and I don't want them hitting the poly. You will def see 7' from one if not all of them.

I cleaned up a bunch of the undergrowth this year, something I didn't do last year and I think the plants suffered. When they are that big it helps to focus the energy on the upper buds, so cleaning out the crappy lower growth seemed like the plan this year. Also allows nice air flow and access for me to see and tend to them.

You are right about the trimming, especially the undergrowth. I'm planning on doing some trimming this weekend and next weekend before they get too out of hand. I've tried to trim a little bit lately, but every time I start, I end up smoking a joint and just sitting back and staring at them. Lol. It's a tough life growing weed.:laugh:

I find it totally relaxing to work on the plants...would not do it stoned because I've cut the wrong things before totally sober!

I'll be doing some undergrowth trimming today. I'll post some pics later this afternoon when I'm done.

What a great Sunday morning this is. It's not the sunniest or the warmest day we've had this week, but it's still nice. This is shaping up to be one helluva summer. We've had a few warm spells, but none of those really hot spells like we did last year. Last year at this time I was in panic mode just trying to keep things alive. This year I'm just watching them grow like crazy. What a difference and I'm really happy about that.

All four plants are now beginning to flower. I guess they can tell the days are getting just a tad shorter already. And while the two UltraViolence have been showing signs of flowering for a while, the GG4's are now in the beginning stage as well. At this reate, I'll probably switch over to my flowering nutrients somewhere around the beginning of next month. Then its on!!!

It's getting really hard to take a good pic of all four of them. I took these standing on a chair with the camera raised high over my head. There will be no more portrait pics of the group from here on out. Landscape is the only way I can fit them in. Next month I'll probably be taking pics from the roof. Lol.

This is the smaller UltraViolence. While it is short, I'm sure the harvest will be good. The taller one is coming along nicely as well. The most amazing thing I am noticing is the size of the top branches. The longest ones are about 3' right now and the shortest ones are about 2'. With at least a month and a half left of vertical growth, there's no telling just how long they will get. Is it possible to have 80 tops weighing in at about 1lb each? I don't know if that's even possible. I've never trained plants this much and then put them outside for the summer. I guess this fall will tell me what it brings. But so far, I'm pleased. Very pleased!

Here is the shorty.

Here is that tall one.

The GG4's are really growing like crazy as well. I did not train them like I trained the UltraViolence, but I did top every single branch when they were younger. So hopefully they will have plenty of big colas. And you can see the beginning stages of buds forming now. The shorter one is just a tad under 5' and the taller one is just a little over 5'.

This is the taller one.

And this is the shorter one.

So I just got done spending a couple of hours in the garden trimming and admiring. What a big difference it made. I got a full 5 gallon bucket of trim removed from the bottom and middle of the plant. I looked at all of the branches and anything that looked like it would never see the full light of day got removed. This should give the tops a lot more room and light to do their thing!

Here is the bigger of the two UltraViolence before and after

This is the smaller one. Before and After

And lastly, here is the trim.

Looks great...lots of room for air movement as well.

Very nice.
I read thru your journal and I like the way you train your plants in those pots. I tried some training this yr but not to the intensity as yourself.

Looking forward to watching your plants flower. Well done.

Thanks. But to be honest, this is the first time I've trained an outdoor grow this much. I usually just start them as clones in the middle of may and then top the top and all the branches about a month or so after they've started. This time I trained the heck out of them when they were still in the tent and then went to town on them once they got going outside. But it looks like it will be worth it.

And keep watching. I'll be posting all the way through harvest. I'm hoping it will be like nothing I've ever grown before.

So last night I was out on the deck admiring my plants with a joint in hand. I decided to take a couple pics then started smoking the fatty. I was going to post them here, but I was so stoned I forgot to post them. So now that I have all my faculties back I'm posting them.

I moved the plants around a bit. The two that used to be the closest plants in the pic are now the ones in the back. But all is well and they are growing just fine. This is gonna be one helluva harvest for me. It's kind of funny when I grow. I love summer, but I just cant wait till fall gets here so I can harvest. Then I have to wait all winter long before I can plant again. It would be nice if there was only summer and fall all year. just drop the winter and spring. Ha!

You got them looking top shelf going into bloom. My daughter has some plants on the patio. Her's are in 15 gal. bags, using Coast of main platinum super soil. if you'd like a pic., I'll get one for comparison. She has og kush, critical +, and cheese. We have a short grow season in western Ma., so we're limited to a strain that can grow quickly. They were about 2 ft. high bushs, when she set them out about the last of may. You got them as good as they can be at this stage, I would do no more trim till harvest. Good luck in the 2d. 1/2 !!

Hell ya. Definitely post some pics. I love looking at other grows.

My daughter took these and they're not good. I'll get some better ones next trip there.
