I really have no experience growing outside. My husband tends all the outdoor plants but maybe one of my other followers could help?

They look pretty good other than the bottoms. Have you done any training to them? What are they planted in? Which nutes are you using?

I love your fence. I wish we had a wooden fence around our yard. We only have a chain link fence, not much privacy with them.

I’ve been using Reefertilizer nutes. The two Bruce Banners were topped at about the 6-7th node (the bushier, rightmost one was Fimmed). As for soil my growing experience started with deciding on a whim to germinate the Banner seeds I found this spring so I rushed out and got some seedling mix and free 1 gallon pots from the local grocery store. Then I thought what if they’re males and bought the rest of the seeds (feminized) and popped some of those. Then as I’ve read more they’ve all been up potted into a mix of Gaia Green Living Soil, Earthworm Castings and perlite. The youngest two were started outside in this soil mix and seem to be doing way better than the original Blue Haze and Hay-Z plants that they were meant to replace although the originals seem to be slowly coming around!

I think I would have really benefitted from researching first rather than rushing into it and learning on the fly but we’ll see how things go and hopefully get some yield from each strain and learn some things along the way to improve upon next time!

Thanks Azimuth, it crossed my mind when I joined this forum but figured I was a bit too green to be posting a journal on my first grow. Maybe it’s not too late to start though so I’ll give it some more thought and stop talking about my girls here as I’ve already taken up too much space on HashGirls journal!

I believe if you're growing anyways, you might as well start a journal to get some help from other growers. That's what I did and the help I have received has been immeasurable.

Good day.

So, I've given up on the Sour Diesels and one of the Jack Herers. They've been in dirt for a week and nothing so I plopped 3 more seeds into water this morning. Hopefully, these ones will grow now that I know how to actually plant a seed. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hey HGirl,

If you have any fresh worm castings they work great with the seed starting process.

I soak my seeds in a little fresh vermi juice for 12-18 hours so the microbes can get right to work, and then put them into wet paper towels in a baggie until the tail comes out. Then, when I plant the sprouted seed in soil, I water the surface with a little more vermi juice to ward off the dreaded damping off disease.

Lots of ways to do it, but I've had pretty good success when I follow that process.

*** Weekly Update ***

Good morning.

The big pieces of news this week are:
  • There has been a couple really good growth spurts this week.
  • I foliar sprayed the BB and PA with the silica spray I bought.
  • I sprayed Safer's on the outside plants.
  • BB has started flowering. So, I guess I won't be topping her now. :(

The plans for this week are to find out from @Justin Goody what I need to do with the Blueberry and Purple Autos especially the Blueberry now. :hmmmm:

Transplant the Amnesia and Lemon Autos to 3-gallon pots.

Move all of the autos into the small tent, which has been prepared for them in advance. I also bought a new timer as the kind Felonious bought, I can't figure it out. The one I bought is a digital display timer and it's so easy. One of the GSC growers had one (I think it was Brett Blaze).

BB is already flowering so there’s not much you can do but let it finish now as is.

Purple you’ll want to top before it starts flower but only if it grows a few more nodes. Top above the 4th.
Sometimes they start flowering before we can start training/topping and those plants just may not get all that big.

Thanks, Justin. Can I perform any LST on the BB?

You could try, but you want it to be showing vigorous growth and pointing up toward the light or else you'll just be tying down an already tired plant. Typically you want to start training before it flowers, and after it's topped.
With autos, sometimes they don't see it that way and start flowering at 20 days old. Try again with the next seed, and hopefully it will be more cooperative.
Did you start these in a solo cup then transplant them?

Okay. Thank you.

Yeah. Solo cup then 3-gallon. Next autos will go straight into the 3 gallon pots as per your advice.

Smart. Your results will likely be night and day different. Looking forward to it!

*** Weekly Update ***

Good afternoon.

The biggest pieces of news about the summer grow is that I harvested DDA1 and 2 today and I've given up on the second Blueberry seed, which hasn't shown so much of a hair above soil so far. I just planted one of the 2 Lemon Autos and the second one is still in paper towel.

Without further ado, here are the pics:

I'm jealous you have DDA to smoke!

So HashGirl, you have a fast moving journal! I'd be here more often but a couple of weeks ago i got abducted by aliens and haven't been able. Not to worry. The probing wasn't too painful. I'll try to keep up! ;)
There's an auto link in my siggy if you haven't seen it yet.

The Life Cycle of Autoflowering Plants link? Yes, thank you, I've read it.

I hope they at least took you for a ride through the worm hole!? That'd be pretty cool. Glad to hear you're back and in (relatively) good spirits?
