HashGirl Grows Runtz Punch & Sugar Black Rose Sponsored By Herbie's

HG asked for specific advice:

I was just pointing out that "based on new growth," while it's definitely one method and it works for you, might be harder to follow.

I didn't see that as a debate.

I understand that, Shed. It was kinda the sole reason I replied.

While I wouldn’t speak on Hashgirl’s behalf. And I base this assumption on the green magic I’ve seen her grow, I felt HG understands what new growth looks like, and would be able to follow.

It’s just my experience that’s all. I just wanted to share my experience with HG in case she found it helpful on some level.

Thank you for everyone's opinions on when to uppot. I think I will uppot when I have to water every day unless her new growth becomes too unmanageable and then I will uppot sooner.

Should I top the clone? Her mother is almost 2 months' old. I'm tempted to just let her grow naturally.

This is fun. Your decision is the method I use to know when. When they drain to bone dry in 24 hours. Whatever works, I have good success that way.

Have you ever grown from clone before or is this the first time? (sorry if I should know this) If it's the first time, maybe you want to let it go natural just to see for yourself what "natural" looks like?

Sounds like a plan. I top and train because of space considerations, although I'd probably still do it because I enjoy the process. But, that said, sometimes it's fun to try different things to mix it up.

Topping a clone is a little trickier to me than a seedling, just because the cutting is usually sexually mature and nodes start to alternate or become asymmetrical by then. You can get lucky though and usually find a good spot where the nodes actually line up or u can kind of top anyway and force one of the nodes to catch up by bending the other.

That's exactly what I do on mine. I try to pick a pair that is fairly close together and then gently bend the top one a couple of times a day, sometimes twisting the stem a bit to slow it down. They're usually too small to tie the branches down at this stage and they're pretty delicate so have to be careful when you do it, but most of mine are clones with the alternating nodes.

Edit: I will say that I'm begining to experiment with pipe cleaners to hold down the limbs, and think those might hold great promise in early clone training. Not as fun as tying knots, but you know... :D

Yeah, I've never grown a clone before. Even though she's 59 days old, she's very small. How long do people veg a clone? Is it like starting over with a 2-month (or so) veg time but feeding her at her mother's current age and then flipping to flower?

You can feed it according to the mother's levels, unlike with seedlings. For me, it's about training and size and when I think the plant is reasonably ready for a space opening up in my flower box. I grow with a monthly perpetual harvest, and have a few clones of different strains going, so I try to mix up what goes in next based on which ones are reasonably ready and what's already in there.

*** Weekly Update ***

Good afternoon.

The girls are getting big and the clone has grown 4" this week so it's doing well. Runtz Punch 2 has some brown spots on her lower leaves that I'll need some help identifying the problem.

Here are the pics:

First pic looks like magnesium.
Second pic looks like a phosphorus deficiency to me.
I would agree totally. But phosphorus at this stage should be good in dirt. Usually that's at end of flowering stage. That's why u see all yellowing in plants before harvest. Cause used it all up. . But that my way of thinking hardly ever phosphorus that I have seen here unless ur feeding hyponoics . First usually has that in aboundance

Thanks, Dust. The damaged leaves were on the bottom. The first pic you posted was cool. I've never seen that one before. According to it, don't my leaves look like they have a Zinc issue?

Also, I've seen you post the above graphic a few times lately. Any particular reason you always post it sideways?

Besides the ongoing bug damage, the blurry pic looks like it could also be a clone getting rid of some of the older lower leaves, which mine do. The second pic with the black tip looks like a leaf that was touching the dirt at some point.

Both leaves were from the Runtz Punch and they were both on the bottom of the plant.

Everything else looks green and happy!

:thanks:

Zinc and mag can look just alike. Zinc usually not it. Plants don't need much of it . So yeah I would go with giving a little bit of calMag. To her. Just alittle bit now.. just to see if it spreads or more leaves pop up. Then u know for sure it's not zinc.. zinc more less runs throw plant like wild fire. If it's gone while plant would be effected.. it's help immunity of the plant like it does in humans..

This what mag look like before burn spots. I have a leaf right now that I forgot to add alittle to it.. well I didn't add enough. Cause my dirt is way to low for mag for plants. So I have to give it 2 times per stage. Veg and flowering.. little more on flowering and I didn't.added same amount . U can see the spot coming up. So yeah I would have to say it is mag..deff.
