Growing A Legend: An Auto Tribute To Jack Herer

Well if I still have bupkis tonight I'll add some H2O2 to the bowl for a couple of hours and then go to wet paper towel in a zip lock.

Just remember, usually seeds won't sink if you have H2O2 in your water......the bubbles in the H2O2 somehow generally keeps it floating.

That never occurred to me. Thanks VS! Mine sunk at the 12 hour mark so I would just be adding the H2O2 to make sure it's clean before it goes in the paper towel. But for the next one I'll remember to change water after an hour or two.

Every time I've popped seeds, I just plant into the soil. Every time, I plant more than I think I'll need in case a few don't germinate, and I can only remember a couple times I didn't get 100% of the seeds I planted popped.

I'm not trying to advocate for it, but I just went with planting them from the start and never had any reason to soak or mess with the paper towels.

1. Put seed in a container with 320 grit sandpaper and just shake it around in it
2. Plant seed at most twice as deep as the seed is wide
3. Put a sandwich bag on the top for a humidity dome

Not sure how long it usually takes, I think the earliest is 2-3 days, maybe sometimes a few seeds will take closer to a week.

Maybe if this one doesn't germinate I'll be more convinced to do the soaking and what not, but so far I've just never been convinced that it's necessary. In my opinion the most important factor is scarification and not planting too deep. Scarification helps the seed soak up water quicker ( probably what soaking will accomplish ) and planting it shallow will ensure that it breaks surface without exhausting its endosperm ( the seed's food ).

That's my take on it. We'll see if I have to eat crow in a couple of days haha

Yeah it doesn't take long to soak em in the H2O2, 30 minutes up to whatever. Hell with the Jack Herer, I forgot it was in there and when I woke up the next morning, I put it into regular water and it sank right away.

I am an advocate of soaking in the H2O2 first so that if there is any possible threat to the seed on the outside.....it doesn't somehow make its way inside the shell if it cracks.

I personally don't think its necessary. Hell there ain't no paper towels and soaking done in nature and they germinate.....but the rate is much lower.

I certainly can understand if you buy a pack of seeds for 200 bucks and each seed costs roughly 20 bucks, you might want to do everything to maximize your chances of that seed successfully germinating.

Is there a right or a wrong way to germinate? Only if it doesn't work. Direct plant.....in soil with no soak, great. Soak and then direct plant in soil....Great. Soak, into paper towel and wait for tap root and then transplant....great!

I'm just trying to send my seed positive thoughts from 8 miles away! I'll know in 6 hours if it worked ;)

8 miles away huh.....out where you live thats like a 2 hour commute right?

I was stationed down at Miramar in the late 90s. I lived about 9 miles from the base......and I remember there being a window of about 10 minutes in the morning and evening that if you didn't make it, your commute time would quadruple. It would take me 15 minutes to get there if I left by 0630....but if I waited till 0645 to leave the commute would take an hour. Same thing with the evening. God I don't miss SoCal traffic.

Yeah there are roads here you do 50 on in winter and literally 5 mph in summer with all the potholes normally filled with snow...

I love that rush hour here is waiting 2 minutes at the round a bout!

We had a blinking light in the middle of town forever and all the accidents happened there...they replaced it with a roundabout 3 years ago...love it.

In the summer all the people from away are clueless on navigating a roundabout though...
