Growing A Legend: An Auto Tribute To Jack Herer

It kinda feels like the beginning of the Cannonball Run...everyone revving their engines and checking out the other cars.

I am ready....

What a classic movie!! I loved all of the Burt Reynolds car movies back in the day. His Trans Am from Smoky and the Bandit was one of my top dream cars as a kid (General Lee was the other one.....loved me some Dukes of Hazzard).

I absolutely love trout. Pops and I would always hunt and fish colorado and idaho every fall. We would go out a week before hunting season to scout and look for game.....but we always fished that first week. We would fish the morning, eat fresh caught rainbow and cutthroat trout thrown in aluminum foil with a little butter and fresh garlic and then go scout the surrounding areas for sign of Elk or Deer and then fish the evening hours and repeat with the cooking. Nothing like a fish still flopping going over the open flames, my god that is good.

I remember a small lake I was fishing....it was a bitch to get to. I had to climb up a really steep pass of really loose rocks and then down that loose stuff to the lake. Anyways, I was fishing my way around the lake and I came to a fallen tree.....halfway in the lake/pond and halfway sticking out. There was a branch sticking out about 2 feet above the water and there was a huge dragon fly that was sitting on it. Well I am casting away around the surrounding area with a Panther Martin spinner and I see this flash out of the corner of my eye and a see a fish land under the branch with the dragon fly on it. So I make my way down to see what was going on.

I decided to sit on a stump and watch that area and I was really rewarded. I watched a big rainbow trout (probably 20+inches long) sit under that dragon fly and patiently watch it.....and it would slowly rise to the surface and jump and try to catch the dragon fly in mid air. Over and over I watched his. My dad made his way around to me from the other side and confused why I wasn't fished. I told him to pull up a log and just watch. We sat there for an hour watching that stubborn trout chase that damn dragon fly laughing our asses off. We made a small fire, cooked up a couple of its brothers and sisters and enjoyed watching that. Good times. It was also my first time ever catching a Splake Trout on that trip (different lake).

I'm also a big fan of fishing. Good times outdoors are always great memories

Back on the fish water subject. One of the grow books I read years ago. Addresses using Guppy water in their grow system. Sorry to say I don't remember which book it was. If I remember right is was written by a known breeder. Which breeders wrote books? I know D.J. Short and Soma did. Anyone remember others? Maybe we can figure out which book.

Here are a couple shots of a trip last March/April to Costa Rica. I took my old man down there as a surprise trip. 5 days of fishing at an all inclusive fishing resort.....great times. Caught some great fish as well.

Speaking of hobbies that we enjoy while baked...Anyone else do any panning for gold? Its just for fun, bu man do I like to just get baked out of my mind, and find a quiet seat next to a river and pan for a little gold. And when I say little, I mean little:) The gold in the pictures is all similar to single grains of sand...but I said it was fun, not fiscally beneficial!

That's pretty cool. Can you make anything using it? Where are you anyway?

Just North of Seattle Washington. Thats the Raging River, though it doesn't rage too much the time of year that photo was taken. Its a really neat little river, and its also a major Salmon Breeding Highway!! There is specific time of year when the spawning is happening that a bunch of regulations take place to protect the fish. Its a pretty good system to assure the redds dont get bothered, and help future generations of salmon do the same. Its always a little crazy when that season is over. So many dead and rotten fish everywhere. Slowly but surely the bears and bugs and river consume them all, the smells die down and its back to the last few weeks of weather thats good enough to be in the rivers, fishing or otherwise. Neat life cycle.

Yeah, ecology is fascinating stuff. I did a bunch of eco courses. Are you seeing any Atlantic salmon in your rivers?

I haven't personally, but I know there are Atlantic Salmon Farms around, so I would imagine so.

I know that in BC it's a big problem. Actually it's a problem anywhere that people bring animals, intentionally or otherwise.

That's a small fish, are they fishlings?

I would have replied earlier, but I took this picture today to show you on here and I had to get it online and stuff. My coffee mug is just there for reference. In that section of tray there are 9000 little fish. Not up and swimming yet though. They are alevins, the first stage after they hatch. They just lie there and absorb the yolk sac until they are free-swimming and ready to start feeding. It's a crapppy picture, but phone cameras being phone cameras...
