Grow #2: Outdoor/CFL Auto 420 Blueberry & AK-47 Smart Pots With Dr Earth Soil

No pics today because my time was spent mixing the spinosad in a spray bottle this morning and spraying the autos and the clone. I'm sure I missed a lot of leaves because of how dense the foliage is on these two but I did what I could. Since you can't keep the spinosad mixture for long I went around and sprayed the bottoms my lemon trees (didn't bother with a ladder) and my dwarf lime until I emptied the spray bottle. 1 tablespoon in 32 ounces.

I put on my P100 respirator to do the spraying because I hate breathing in any chemicals, even organic ones. If I'm just going to do a quick spray I'll just pull my sweatshirt over my nose but if I'm doing any more than that I put the respirator on.

I heard on the radio about the fires north of me and in Ventura County, and I got to work to find the sky around my office grey and the air smokey...and people are walking around in dust masks! It wasn't smokey by my house but I was wearing a respirator. Then I drive to work and there are dust masks all over the place. Not that I would have worn the respirator had I known...it's not Halloween :).

I'm not leaving the building but I can smell it inside as well. We're miles away from the fires (and not in any danger) but the wind is blowing the smoke and ash all over LA County.

Hope your skies are clear and the air is breathable!

Hope that crap avoids your area as much as possible. I hate breathing fires....remember working in Billings...ugh.

Well it's now burning in the hills just above where I work. It's not huge yet and there's no brush down here, but we did lose power for 10 minutes. Came back on tho...damn! Funny thing about wind is that there was less smoke this morning than there was yesterday when the fire was 15 miles north. Home is safe and sound though.

On to the plants...

Wednesday and the smoke did not block the sun this morning so pardon the high contrast pics (still better than pink!). The yellow veins on the leaves are just in the pics, not IRL. Temps outside were 51° in the shade but will be 72° this afternoon. I think it's getting time to have my son bring them in the shed when he gets home from school now that we're getting colder earlier. RH is very low lately with the Santa Ana winds blowing, but AK 4 SPOG® in the jar is still in the high 60s so left it open last night and closed it this morning. I'll check it tonight.

Here is Blue 4 on day 68. A little tucking is all there is to do now:

AK 7 on day 66. Hardly tucking this as everything seems to have a clear view of the sun:

That's all for today. Stay thirsty my friends. But not your plants!

Spinosad? Nibblers back??

Them, see here.

Damn shed. Didn’t realize how long It’s been since I popped in. Those plants are looking right on time. See, it wasn’t beginners luck broskie. You know what the hell youre doing!! :thumb:
Right on brother!!! Thanks again for all your help along the way. I’m trying my ass off during the little time I have to mess with them, to take some pics of trichomes, & I can’t even hold my camera with olliclip steady enough to see anything useful. I can’t even see with my 40x jewelers loops!!! I’m officially shaky & blind! Lol:volcano-smiley:

Lots of steadier hands in your house to take pics for you, and they're probably less likely to drop the phone in a bucket! :):):)

Looking real tasty Shed; got my mouth watering.

Thanks flytie! Still got another 25-30 days so I hope the older flowers start stacking soon. I'm sure the Blueberry I'll take down in stages but not sure on the AK yet. It's getting colder here and the sunlight is fading earlier and earlier so I'm sure it's not going to produce like the ones grown all summer did. Still, it's fun to run the two LSTs side by side and notice the difference between the two strains (or cultivars as SweetSue wants us to call them!).

I still have one seed of each left so I'll have to figure out when to start them to work well with the clones. Not until it warms up though that's for sure!

I didn't realize SoCal got cold. Length of the day, yeah, but cold...?

Can you grow autos there during the winter months?

Cold for us and cold for the plants. Not cold for Minnesota or Alaska. Autoflowers like 70°+ (probably almost all cannabis do) and it's only 70°+ for about 4 hours a day. No heat in the shed and can't (breaker)/won't (not worth the electric bill) put any in there.

Not sure I could start an auto outside now though. Or at least not a happy one!

I have some CKS Early Miss autos and they are rated for 10 deg. C, somewhere around 50 deg. F

I grow indoors only to the extent that I move my plant every night into the shed. They're currently under 2 T5s and 8 CFLs. Here they are sharing the space with the AK-47 photo clone:

Then back outside in the daytime? I just assumed your climate would be warmer this time of year.

Well, 6:00 comes as early as usual, which is too early, so it's time to say goodnight from the east coast. Catch ya tomorrow.

Outside every morning, inside every night! It gets to the low 50s and sometimes upper 40s at night where I am, and it freezes in the San Fernando Valley on occasion.

Have a great night!

Happens to the best of us my friend.......theirs a strain for that lmao!

I can't even keep my lights from crashing into my plants! Arrrgh :-0.

Broke three branches on AK 7 this morning when raising the lights (and then rapidly doing the opposite of raising them) to take the plants out of the shed. Grrrr...

Blue 4 seems unscathed but here is the damage to AK 7:

I had to do some serious defol to get at the stems in order to tape them up. I also supported the branches with wire...reverse LST:

Here it is after repair. Let's see how bad the damage looks tomorrow!

On the plus side, the AK 4 SPOG® is down in the curing zone to be burped once a day for a week:

And last night I made an omelette for dinner. The spinach side is for my wife:

It may be cheating but after it's all put together I put a lid on it to help cook it through:

Paper towel helps get that perfect roll onto the plate. Slide the paper towel to the left as you roll the omelette off.

Sorry, no pics of the finished product as it was whisked away the second it hit the plate.

Last night's omelette does not remove the sting of this morning's light mishap though :-(

Have a good day everyone!
