Greenhouse Perpetual Grow In The Tropics

Since we've been talking about pot size and root systems lately, I decided to take a shot of the roots of the kush plants I recently harvested. These two plants were clones of the same kush mother. I'll try to do a better job next time of carefully extracting the root mass from the pot, but this is a first go.

The plant on the left had one stem, while the one on the right had a forked stem. This was natural – I didn't do any topping. Both plants were in 15 gal smart pots.

Here's what stands out to me:
  1. The plant on the right seems to have slightly more roots, and deeper roots (not quite visible in the photo). The one on the left has a swirl.
  2. I can't discern any particular tap-like root on either plant.
  3. When I extracted these from the soil, I noticed that the top 3" of soil was a fairly solid mass of fine roots. Under that, the soil was a lot more loose.

Pics from the flower house today.

The CBDs and CBG all have pre-flowers. Blue Dream is well into flowering... stigmas are still white. Gelato is a bit behind BD. The Ringo's Gift CBD plant is doing very well. CBDs and CBG are in 5 gal plastic pots. The others are in 15 gal smart pots. (There's also a BD and Gelato off to the right, out of the picture, on the uncovered part of the deck. I'm thinking about chopping that Gelato... she's just not doing well and not worth trying to save. She was the fastest growing and tallest of the 3 Gelatos, and has long maxed out her pot. I do have clones of her.)

The star of the show is the Ringo's Gift. She's doing spectacularly in a 5 gal pot and is showing pre-flowers. (I'm going to start calling her a Ringo's Gift, even though I'm not sure she actually is. If she is, CBD could be up to 20%.)

The middle CBD pheno from the first photo, showing pre-flowers (which you really can't tell from this shot). This was the pheno that produced nice-sized buds and good yield earlier this year

The Blue Dream cross in flower... about 8 ft tall, including the pot. This seedling plant is really stretched, and I'm looking forward to growing out her clones and flowering them much sooner, plus topping early.

Cola formation on the Gelato. I'm still blown away by how hardy this strain is... big plant & still going strong in 15 gal.

Meanwhile in the veg house, space has really opened up. The cloning chamber has a new batch of clones (not pictured), running two 24 watt SANSI bulbs.

Foreground: My favorite CBD pheno... a very slow-growing indica-dominant plant that produces sticky grape-scented buds. In the 6 gal pot directly behind them is Maui Wowie, just recently up potted from 1 gal. To the right are the GSC x Kush in 5 gal pots. In the back, old clones on the left, new clones on the right.

Great looking plants makes me jelly!

Clones don't have a tap root.
You get that from a seed.
Roots look great, excellent work on those Clones.
How did they produce, about the same each?
Garden looks fantastic. :thumb:
Hope your having a great day my friend.

Emilya was saying that clones develop provisional tap roots. Unless they broke off when I was pulling these out, I'm not seeing that. [UPDATE: on closer inspection, I don't see anything broken off.]

Thanks. I think the forked stem one maybe produced a bit more.

That’s no garden it’s a frickn forest. Wow

Harvest time again... one Blue Dream cross, and one Gelato cross. No sign of bud rot. I've been spraying the Blue Dream with peroxide solution. Last harvest was less than 2 weeks ago.

Blue Dream-X, top buds. Trichomes are almost there and no sign of bud rot... thinking I'll harvest tomorrow.
blue_dream_buds1.jpg

Blue Dream-X. Lots of milky trichomes, some amber. (first time using the tripod.)
blue_dream_flower1.jpg

Good trichome production, but looking to do better next time around w/ the clones.
blue_dream_flower_closeup1.jpg

Here's the Gelato-X. She seems to have way too much foliage on the colas, which I'm not used to... defol? Also, not great trichome production, but almost ready to harvest. I'm sure she needed more nutes and less veg time. Will try again with the clones.
gelato_cola1.jpg

Gelato-X flower. Trichomes are sparse and small, but nearly ready. There are A LOT of buds on the plant, in heavily foliated colas.

No don't chop her she is nowhere near done.
She has another 4 weeks easy. Minimum 4 weeks.
When your ladies have finished flowering and building for you their pistils turn red and crinkle in.
Then you check tric's.
She will also stop uptaking from her pot leaving nutrients behind.
They are still swelling your losing half your harvest and most of the potency.
They are still developing thc, just starting actually, most comes at the end.
Hopefully you can save your crop.:Namaste:

I am a newbie and don't know much, but to my untrained eye, she is still putting out white pistils, so isn't she still trying to get pollinated?
My last plant I waited until all the white pistils were gone (and she "looked finished"), and she packed on a lot more crystals.

Thanks Bill, but I am already looking at trichomes because this is the window where my plants get bud rot. Last harvest was the 2 kush plants and the maui wowie, and the 2 kush I lost about 1/3 to 1/2 to bud rot, while the maui wasn't affected much. The more dead stigmas, the more mold is invited to get started on the dead stigmas. The Maui Wowie still had some white stigmas, but lots of milky trichomes and some amber, and I harvested that plant. It's potent enough, as were the kush buds.

As I posted, I'm seeing a lot of milky trichomes and some amber on the Blue Dream, so this I view as very successful, without seeing any bud rot. I'm not set on harvesting tomorrow – I will continue to check for bud rot. Usually I also see dark mold spots on the underside of leaves, when a plant is going to have bud rot. The Blue Dream isn't showing much of the mold spots at all.

RE: 4 weeks... I think what's going on here is that I have some unusual environmental factors... my plants flower very quickly. What you see as 4 weeks to go, I see as almost ready to harvest. There's no way I am waiting for all the stigmas to turn brown and for a lot of amber trichomes – I basically never do that. It's a huge mold risk. Maybe something will shift for me, some day, but for now this is what works.

Here's a question for folks... How often have you seen a lot of white stigmas, and at the same time a lot of milky trichomes and some amber ones, too? This is what's going on with my buds.

Are you looking at tric's on the buds , not leaves.
I've seen it many many times.
Just because some tric's are amber doesn't mean she has finished flowering.
I'm sorry the bud rot is so bad you have to chop before they are ready, I understand.
Take care.

Trichs on the buds. I totally understand what you're saying. I just have to work with my conditions here, and don't be sorry, because the buds are great. Some people like milky, other people like amber. I'll go some amber, but not a lot. I'm totally fine with that.

That said, I am going to continue to observe those buds... not necessarily going to chop tomorrow. I'll let her go as long as I can, it's just that the bud rot is scary, because by the time you see a little rot in one or two buds, there's a chance it has already ruined a lot of buds. It sort of melds with the inside of the buds, and trimming those is a nightmare I don't want to repeat.

I'll try to make some aerated worm tea foliar spray for the next go-round with the kush plants, as I was mentioning in @Azimuth's new thread.

And, supposedly, amber outdoors in the sun isn't the same as indoors under lights.

Shed's post here
Interesting, thanks. Yeah, outdoor is getting UV, while I guess most indoor doesn't get any UV. I think the polycarbonate roof on my flower house is probably blocking all UV. From what I've heard, UV increases THC production. THC is like the sunscreen of the plant.
