Green Knight Berry Bomb Hydro CFL - Experiment #1: Supercropped Defoliated ScROG

Tremendous :thumb:

Going to be fantastic filled!!:xmas::Hookah:

Day 55: Some of the tops have grown up through the screen and things are looking quite bushy with a lot of shading of new growth and branch sites. There seem to be a reasonable number of tops developing and underneath the screen looks quite crowded:

So today she had a bit of a beating. I defoliated quite heavily and took any large and most medium sized leaves. I also supercropped the majority of branches: basically anything growing up vertically got supercropped to horizontal, bringing everything back below the screen and level with the mid and lower growth on the plant. I defoliated top down and as I spread the plant outwards, so the more vigorous growth got defoliated most heavily, supercropped and bent horizontal, and the newer, less developed growth or previously shaded growth retained most of it's leaves. My goal when doing this is to expose the new growth, branch sites, and previously shaded/weaker growth to the maximum possible light whilst slowing down the tops that are growing vigourously and overtaking everything else. I want the plant to develop uniformly across the screen and grow upwards at the same time.

The mother that got a bit stressed when she had a few days in the dark has perked up, with new root growth and all new leaves looking healthy:

Set up looks damn good! Gives me a different view on the screen on something I had no interest in.

Thanks spring. Yeah, I'm hoping I'll get a more efficient use of space with the screen - I'll be able to use the entire area of the room, rather than just what the plant decides to grow into. I think it adds quite a bit to the veg time but I'm hoping the end result will be worth it.

Great work GK! That's defoliating power :) I noticed the same effect on my plants after defol&lst but on a smaller soil-based scale lol :).. She looks so bushy good job man :thumb: leaves come back with a vengeance

I'm sure the defoliating is helping to even the growth out as I can slow the faster growth and allow the slower and new growth to catch up. One big advantage at this stage is it does make it much easier to see what you're doing and train the plant where you want. Once she's in flower and developing the buds I think that will be the real test though!

looking really top notch keep up the good work im betting you will get one hella harvest, my experience with bomb genetics is they yield really well and in a scrog oh yeah!

Cheers bid. I'm hoping to get 4-5oz - that's the target anyway! I got 2oz off the Auto Bomb and that wasn't trained and didn't really fill the cupboard so if I fill the screen right and don't overcrowd things I think it could be possible to at least double that, maybe more, and one of the things that appealed to me with the berry bomb is that it's meant to be quite a big yielder.

I think the rate limiting factor (other than space) is going to be the light 'cos its only a 125w cfl. But if I could pull 4oz or more from this space with a 125w cfl that would be a pretty good result.

Ha ha- yes, you've definitely got a full time job on your hands compared to my little grow! I've found the screen does make defoliation a bit more tricky so I can imagine with the number of plants you've got and the size of screen defoliating is a proper endeavour. It will be worth it though!

It's now day 61 and 6 days after I stripped quite a few leaves and did a lot of bending. I defoliated and super cropped top down with the goal of slowing all the fast growth and allowing the slower or shaded growth to grow up and through.

6 days ago:

Today - All the small middle growth I exposed has filled right out and grown up through the screen. Things have leafed up a lot too:

Over the last few days as the new branches have grown up through the screen and started outgrowing the rest I've been removing the leaves:
IMG_13915.JPG

Other branches I've wanted to catch up I've left alone:

The growth appears to be nice and even and has filled out well with everything nice and level:

So a bit more maintenance today: upper growth stripped and bent down and outwards again to expose the new growth:

I don't think it will be too long before I should flip the lights. I want to fill the sides and front of the screen a bit more first though, so I'm thinking maybe another week or two. Her growth is accelerating as she gets bigger anyway so she seems to be doing a lot in a week.

Looking great !!!!! I want to try this with a regular. Just not sure how to get water to it since the plant will be stuck in place?

Thanks spring! I'm not sure I fully understand the getting water to the plant bit, but I think what you might mean is that it's a bugger to water a soil scrog? You could attach a hose to a pump and pump the nutes etc out of a bucket to get under the screen. But if you're pumping nutes out of a bucket then you're near as damn it hydro. Which you would absolutely love by the way. You'll never look back!
