GreeenFingers - Mr Nice - NL5 x Afghan - DWC - SCROG

Don't worry Canna I've be tuning in regularly :)

I plan on fluxing my up and coming batch of blue cheese, if only to get an orderly structure beneath the canopy. Ah so the same as the Purple Kush, I'm looking forward to seeing the flowering portion of that time lapse :)

Thanks I appreciate it.. I'll keep you in mind when that time comes.. it seems easy enough to do.. my biggest concern is when it comes to changing out the water do you find it difficult to do especially with a scrog.? I just worry that growing in such a small space like I am 2x4x5 tent that when the screen get filled up it'll be a pain in the assignment to drain and refill the buckets

Pain in the assignment ha ha

Well because I have individual SCROGs for each bucket it makes the process quite easy, it allows me to lift the lids, when I need to do a res change I just fill a fresh bucket with water, set my EC and PH, take the plant in question out of the grow room and just lift the lid off in which the net pot sits in, the roots dangle from and the air stone and scrog are attached, place it all carefully into the fresh bucket, good as new, minimal effort :)

I could have gone down the route of pumps and piping to remove the water and was going to but I did not want the risk of leaks, I dont know what I'd do if i came home to find a 25 litre ( 6 gallon ) bucket had sprung a leak, I had this happen with a 5 litre and it was a disaster ha ha This way the plants can get a clean bucket at each res change and I get to clean the old buckets for the next change :)

Nis says he's going to work some more on it tonight. I hope he can get something together so he can post it.

UPDATE: DAY 2 OF FLOWER

Its kind of hard to see from the picture but we have some pre flowers forming already :)

An under the canopy shot, this is the reason I'm thinking of Mainlining or Fluxing the next set of plants that go into the flower room, just so that there is more of a uniform structure.

For anybody who is interested in seeing the Lab and Veg room :)

UPDATE: FOR THOSE OF YOU INTERESTED IN THE STATISTICS

The girls just had a fresh reservoir change.

EC had been set to 1.72 and PH to 5.7, 3 days ago

Today the EC was 1.57 and the PH was 5.9

The steady drop in EC and steady rise in PH is indicating that the girls are very happy at this level, drinking a balanced amount of water and nutrients.

The EC has now been reset to 1.76 and the PH to 5.7

This should keep them going for the next 2-3 days :)

Reservoir temperature 18 C ( 64.4 f )

Hey Noob4x4grow

I have an actual EC meter so I don't have to do the conversion, You only have to do the conversion if you use a ppm meter as its the ppm meters that have the different conversion rates to each other, EC is always the same :)

All ppm meters actually measure in EC but do a conversion to display a ppm reading, we need to convert those measurements back to EC so that it is the same for everybody :)

e.g, 1.0 EC is either 500ppm on a hanna meter, 640 on an eutech meter and 700ppm on a trunchon, Its the ppm meters that have variation and need to be converted back to something universal.

GreenFingers

Well you could just back convert based on your own meters conversion rate,

EC 1.76

On the .5 conversion scale, I'm running 850 ppm
On the .7 conversion scale, I'm running 1200 ppm

I don't know why people still use ppm metres, EC is universal, like the metric system ha ha

:)

So basically the same thing but does more? I've done tons upon tons and hrs of reading about Mj before starting my grow and this is my first time seeing anything about EC readings. What's the importance of this?

Also on the tube at NoobGrow

I'm not sure what you mean by, ''basically the same thing but does more?''

This is an interesting thread about EC, PPM and TDS that explains it all if you'd like to do some reading. Just click the link below :)

What is the difference between ppm and EC?

But the short version is that PPM meters measure in EC and then convert to PPM. The problem with this is that different PPM metres have different conversion scales meaning when people post their nutrient concentration in PPM it does not mean the same thing for everybody.

Having different conversion factors between differing manufacturers is why we have this problem communicating nutrient measurments between one another.

EC is universal, so if you have a PPM metre and convert to EC based on your conversion scale it will mean the same thing to everyone else. You can see on the chart a 1000 PPM reading from a Hanna ( .5 Conversion ) is equal to 1400 PPM on a Truncheon ( .7 Conversion ) while the EC is 2.0 for both :)

UPDATE:

DAY 3

The girls are loving the higher nutrient concentration, there is a nice amount of stretch going on. There is such rapid new top leaf formation that the nodes are remaining tight with the inter-nodal at spacing about 1 cm ( 3/8 in ) or less, they have grown about 15 cm ( 6 in ) in the past 3 days :)

The light is about 45 cm ( 18 in ) from the canopy

In a few days all shoots / tops that are weak, thin, blocking light, too short or just not as vigorous as the others will be removed to allow light penetration and breathing room to the stronger ones that have the potential to really pack on the weight with more root mass dedicated to them.

Enjoy some pictures from the garden :)
