Graytail's Cupwinners in High Brix Soil - 4x4 - 600W HPS - Perpetual

Speechless...

We be jammin' :slide:

I second that!

Great to see you, Rain! - you promised an update ... ? :cheesygrinsmiley:

SLH2 and PH2 buds are something special. Congrats.

I cut and paste your reviews and Dennise's SBR review for guidance if I run into a witch selling magic beans.

Thanks for letting me watch and learn.

Radogast

You're more than welcome! I want to repeat that, if you like what you're seeing, keep in mind that it isn't because of any mad skills I have or don't have. It's because of Doc Bud's High Brix kit. By this fall, I might feel like I have enough experience to know what I'm doing. :cheesygrinsmiley:

They're beautiful GT. All of 'em. They look, vibrant. :circle-of-love:

Heheh, it's nice to see them all stacked up like that. It's gonna be a harvest a week for 6 weeks. :cheertwo:

Incredible!:lot-o-toke:

Thank ya, sir! So you get a kick outta that split one, eh? I have to remind myself to wrap that up with something - it could still go badly. :cheesygrinsmiley:

:bravo:

They look awesome. I'll bet they're just a pleasure so smoke, smooooooth. I like a fade like that, but maybe a little later and a little less. It's a matter of personal taste for some.

I'm having similar issue on some of my larger plants, so I'm gonna start blooming small again, like I used to.

I think you'll mitigate that yellowing if you bloom them sooner and use larger containers. Other than that I think you knocked it out of the park.

Thanks for your insights, Doc. It prompted me to do some more web searching and I got a little better understanding of the soil dynamics. I, too, was thinking about plant size - I'm better off with smaller ones - I can do more pots and smaller plants and the soil can still keep up. I could go to 10 gallon containers, but these 6 gallon square ones fit my room so well that I'm hesitant to change. I did find some 10 gallon fabric pots that are taller than wide - they'd still fit the space well ...

Nice compliment Doc, but I can do a heck of a lot better than this if I can get things rebalanced. I forget, did we ever decide if an epson salt foliar is a good idea or not?

I have to say that I'm really enjoying the perpetual, too! :cheesygrinsmiley: I don't want to wait 3 months for a harvest. I like more regular gratification - go figure for a loadie ...

I'm shopping for more beans now. So far, I'm thinking:

Utopia Haze - Brazil sativa - Barney's Seeds
Destroyer - Mexico/Columbia x Meao Thai - Cannabiogen
Vanilla Kush - Kashmir Hash x Kush - Barney's Seeds
Nexus - Brazil sativa x Sativa blue - Eva seeds
Nepalese Jam - Nepal sativa x Jamaica sativa - Ace Seeds

Those sound like some great beans! I got a bunch of landraces coming I'm super excited about. Afghanchitral from U.S.C., Pakistani chitral kush and panama d.c. from cannabiogen. Really excited about that last one after your great experience with the Panama. I really want to try some sativas but kinda got turned off by my blue hammers almost 14 week flower time. I really want a thai cross. Maybe if I find a couple keepers from the next two rounds I'll try something crazy. Soo many seeds so little time!

Actually, none of the ones on my list run past 11 weeks flower and that's the Utopia Haze. Destroyer is a 10-weeker and the rest are nine. I'm eyeing a Dr Grinspoon for the next order and that runs 14 weeks. It's not so much the time it takes a sativa, it's their tendency to be finicky unhappy queens.

You're gonna like your Panama Deep Chunk. Panama itself is extremely vigorous and the cross will make it really chunky. :cheesygrinsmiley: Ace Seeds has a nice Thai catalog - worth going through - lots of proven strains and crosses. I have great hopes for Destroyer - Mexican/Columbian x Meao Thai - sounds like a good idea.

Hey Lester, I have ants in my plants. :tokin:

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

It's a soft rainy morning and I've had plenty of Carnival ... :blunt: ...and I'm thinking about plant size ...

From a real-life perspective, what we're doing is growing structures covered in trichs, and we want as little structure as possible, ie, high trich density - more trichs, less leaf and stem. And in my case, I want to grow a canopy 12-18 inches deep to suit my low light density at 30W/sqft. Ideally, I want a 4x4x1.5 foot mass of nodes for buds to grow from.

I can put this mass at about any height I want to. By that, I mean I can grow short plants or tall plants, but I just want that 18 inch canopy. We instinctively think in terms of more veg=more bud, but if I only want 18 inches, more veg won't get me more bud - it'll just get me buds at a higher place on the plant - longer legs. I've seen a lot of other growers with the same canopy as mine, only on taller plants with the bottom 2 feet stripped. They tend to turn out better buds than I do, but the plants always looked like time-wasters to me. Why grow 2 feet of stem? And that extra growth and time also puts strain on the root system, doesn't it? I'm already running out of oomph with my 30 inch plants. An extra month of veg would just max out the roots, wouldn't it?

Is there something I'm overlooking? If you're growing inside, paying for light, what advantage is there in growing the canopy until it's higher on the plant? Outside, you want as deep a canopy as you can manage without shading.

I don't think a tall lollipopped plant is any better.

It's probably all about the roots. I wonder if by growing a taller plant, or letting it veg really long, we are actually just filling that pot with roots, similar to curso root plug trimming. Let the small pots really fill up, then they go nuts after transplant.

I'm not sure gray. I'm in the middle of pot size experiments as well. The answer, more often than not, seems to be larger final pots. I'm going 10 or 15 next round.

Hey Lester, I have ants in my plants. :tokin:

Good Morning GT! hope you don't mind if i answer your Q as well... ants can be true "pest' and you will want to get them out.aside from them getting stuck all in your buds,(fixed with a nice wash..oh yea!!) i havent had it happen but ive read they can get into the stems of the plants. i have heard of using Boric Acid but personally on my plants, primarily outdoor, i always sprinkle Diatamatious earth around the outside of the pots and around the base of the plant. D-earth will cut into their exo skeleton and dry them out like a raisin. also you can put a sticky strip around the bottom of the stem so if they go to climb up they will get stuck. only thing about D-earth outdoors is you have to reapply after rain each time.

More root more fruit, no other way about it:high-five:

I had a buddy who did SOG gardening only and SWORE BY IT!! his method was to cut the plant back/defol(sort of like fluxing sort of kinda but with one main only, no side shoots and only one grow tip at all times.) going from dixie cup, to one gallan, to 3 then final 7 gal!!! and holy shit! his root mass was huge and the single colas he grew on those plants were HHUUGGEE!! 3+oz foot long colas! truely impressive.(he grew in straight coco ) i would love to grow this way but gotta keep plant count DOWN!

and i too have seen it over and over..MORE ROOT MORE FRUIT!!!:cheertwo: you dont necessarily have to have tall/large plants.

:peace:FAMILY

Thanks for that! These are just the seasonal ants that come exploring every spring. Terro works great - nobody around a week later. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I just wondered if they might be beneficial - bugeaters, y'know? But I searched a bit and didn't find anyone who liked 'em, so I'll throw a Terro party for the entire colony!!:partyboy::tommy::theband: Yea! Be there or be square - plenty for everyone! :headbang:

I've thought about SOG, too. It would seem to be a really good choice for a tent. I could run more strains at a time, too, with lower individual yields, but with more total soil volume, so total yield might even be higher.

Nice grow going on. Go with Cannabiogen's Destroyer; Vanilla Kush sux..... :)

Thanks!

And on that recommendation, I'm dumping the Vanilla Kush. :cheesygrinsmiley: I want to try a good hashy kushy one though - got any recommendations?

I know a guy, gray, who runs quite a few plants at once indoors. He always has impressively tall plants and he lollipops them giving him an even 18"-24" thick canopy. He grows some good weed. I asked him what he got in terms of yield and the answer was around 4+oz each plant. I guess that it is probably more about the roots than height, but roots take time to grow and time also equals vertical growth. Given a bunch of horizontal space in a grow room one could probably have the best of both worlds with a monster scrog perpetual.

There really are a lot of factors, like if u just wanted to crank out yields, what's the quickest way to yield most? Longer veg or quicker turn over? Or do we want all huge colas? I like playing around with stuff. I don't know if there really are better ways to go at it, or just people who have perfected their preferred method.

The closest to hashy in a Kush I've ever tasted would probably be Pre '98 BX2 from Cali Connection. It wasn't the best weed, but it had a nice taste. :)
Taste is secondary Chimp

After some more exploration, I decided to check out a high CBD strain instead. Blue Blood from Medicann looks really interesting. They claim 10% CBD and 15-20% THC. How can that be a bad thing? :cheesygrinsmiley: Blueberry x OG Kush.

Really well put! I feel the same way. There's more art in it than a lot of us admit. I bet that 4 oz yield of his comes from a plant that's wider than mine are. In my example, it's a matter of how much from that 4x4 footage, not from each plant. And is he organic? That would make a big difference in root mass. I'm already maxed out, for instance.

Taste is secondary Chimp

Here, here..... :)

Au contrere, mes frere ...

I'm surprised to find that taste is mattering more and more to me. I'm already at mindf**k intensity with so many of the strains I've grown - seriously - mess you up power :cheesygrinsmiley: - anyway, I'm getting a bigger kick out of taste and character than I am out of strength. It has to pass a threshold of course - my Tangerine Dream isn't punchy enough for me, for instance - but now I'm interested in taste. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Come to think of it, that's what Reg said ...

~ nevermind ~

I am with you on the taste! Effect is also great, but it's really too easy to grow something that tastes good AND has a good effect. There's no crappy tasting strain that makes people higher and better than they've ever been that I know of.....is there?

I'm also finding that with all the terpenes we get with high brix, if you take some time, get a bit of ground coffee to cleanse the palate between smells, and take deep, long smells of each strain. It's amazing what's in there and I find myself wanting to smoke some strains because I think they smell so good, and my tastet can change every few days at times.

Lemon Paki is my staple, everything else is for a pleasant diversion from that....for weeks at times. Anyways, I find that when I can smoke something that really smells right that day it's a much better experience than otherwise.

Just had some OG from the last harvest and I'm pretty sure I'm not making much sense. That stuff has got to lower your IQ 20 points, but I feel so good from it. It's a great strain, truly.

Thanks!

Go with a pure AK bro. I am blown away by how the one I have in veg is growing. It has that hashy flavor and this strain I have always yields well or at least in hydro it does. We'll see about it in the hb soil. But so far, fantastic....

You and I approach the herb in much the same way, Doc. I wish I had a better vocabulary for the range of cannabis terpenes. I just recently found about about the two Cindy phenos, grapefruit and pineapple. I don't think I've sensed a chocolate yet, or many of the others I see described, but there's an odd undefineable peppery something in the Utopia Haze that's unlike anything I've had. Sometimes it reminds me of a smokey single malt. Heheh, I smoke from an old brass bat, so I pinch off a piece of bud and roll it into a little ball and stuff it in the pipe. This coats my thumb and finger with fresh resin, which is perfect for holding under my nostrils. :cheesygrinsmiley: So I take a hit, taste, exhale, taste, then some deep inhales from my fingers ... take the second hit ... repeat. I feel like a snooty winester. :laughtwo: The differences are fascinating! This recent grapefruit blew me away. I was expecting some sort of hint of something that seemed like grapefruit, but nu uh, it's the real smell.

I love it! Terpenes, yum!

And the same with exploring new strains. I have the one I return to - kinda of like a default, a standard I can measure against. I'll have to try that coffee grounds trick.

Hmm, I may like to try that - they sound like fun. I tried a freebie World of Seeds, but it dried up. Which breeder do we like?
